So svg was racing for trackhouse racing and their project 91 car which is meant for international drivers from different forms of racing who want to race nascar. Kimi Räikkönen is another notable driver of this car. Shane literally showed up and outclassed the field on his first try. No one has won in their debut since 1963. I hear the Gen 7 actually is pretty similar to a supercar. Maybe that’s why he was so good. And yes. Jenson Button has been doing some nascar racing lately. If Jimmie Johnson were able to race this weekend, that would’ve been a hell of a star studded field. You can look up what happened with him and why he couldn’t for yourself. It’s tragic.

As a huge NASCAR Fan, I'll shed my two cents on the race:
Firstly, congrats to SVG. Amazing what he was able to do and hope to see him at Trackhouse Racing. How he was able to cleanly work his way up and drive past top-tier drivers is incredible
Now, one big thing in NASCAR is strategy. Especially in the coming years after stage racing was put into place. Shortening the race definitely threw teams out of the loop and played heavily on positioning. Secondly, with this being the first street course in NASCAR history, drivers were definitely out of their alley. And with that, the track width was significantly shorter, making it difficult to pass compared to typical passing. Thirdly, rain. To put it simpsimplySCAR cars don't do rain.
I feel with this being the first street course was an astounding success. With that, a lot can be learned from this race, and can help improving future events. I do like the introduction to street course, but as Eric Estepp said, "Ovals are NASCAR's bread and butter." Many Opening possibilities to states with no oval to host races. I do like the attention and traction this event was able to pull and thought it was an okay representation of our beloved sport.
Great content, Amy! Keep up the good work!

@@acidsquidartstudio2154YEAH...... a lap down in 10 laps just like what happened to McLoughlin in the Indy Cars...... oh wait, didn’t McLoughlin win his first oval race, in an F1 type open wheel car ?
Don’t be a MUPPET...... SVG might not ever be a top gun on the NASCAR ovals, but he has already succeeded at speedway in sprint cars, in rally cars, Le Mans type sports cars and other sports cars, etc etc.
Just as Marcos Ambrose proved to be super quick on Ovals the 2 or 3 times he was given a competitive car, SVG might surprise the establishment as well.
Let’s just hope that if SVG does give NASCAR a try, that he gets a competitive car to race and they do NOT bring back those crappy “SPECIAL” tyres they used to noble Marcos on street courses.
Remember those tyres used at Sonoma...... the ones that only lasted 5 laps on a quick car, but lasted well on the super slow cars. lol

    • @Rassskle
      @Rassskle ปีที่แล้ว

In all fairness to the NASCAR drivers, street and road racing is not their go or sport....... oval racing is very different to road racing and street racing is harder than road racing.
SVG is a road and street TOP GUN, one of the best in the world and maybe one of the best EVER.
To be fair to SVG....... the car itself was right in his wheel house, but he needed time to get comfortable with the left hand drive set up and the drivers aspect to cornering from the WRONG side of the car...... very difficult to hit the apexes and be sure of track limits.
He probably needed about 50 laps to get really comfortable with the car and the track....... but he never got comfortable with the sub standard race tyres.
NASCAR never use 1st Class race tyres from a top tier tyre manufacturer.
SVG has never before raced on such an amateur and cheap tyre ..... and he didn’t like that experience..... even though he did enjoy the car, track, other drivers and the experience.

More impressed frankly with his win driving on the “other” side of the car. Here in NZ we drive on the left with the driver on the right side seat, so totally different feel and to overcome years of habit looking opposite angles and to gauge how close the walls are. He’s such a good driver to adapt so well. As for street circuits that’s all they are in Supercars so the drivers there are used to it. He also had a bit of luck with the rain taking out so many cars, but good enough to stay out of trouble and overtake when he could.

These aren't Indycars and IndyCar is primarily road and street with 5 ovals and 12 road. NASCAR has 30 oval races and 6 road. The main issue in Cup cars on ovals is the aero. It's not just about driving the car and hitting apexes, in fact, most ovals don't really have a proper apex. The aero plays a huge part on the oval tracks and sims can't really replicate that. It can give you an idea, but it's not the same. You're also racing drivers that have been driving these tracks year after year. What SVG is on road circuits, NASCAR drivers are on ovals.
With some time I think he could have some success, but it would probably be the biggest challenge in his racing career.

Stage racing came about because they wanted a method to make people race hard the complete race and not lay back. Also it let the field reset and bunch the cars back up for another restart which is more exciting. It also gave advertisers away to run commercials without taking away from the action. The stage racing points have become very important getting into the playoffs. On road courses there are no cautions thrown at the end of each stage, only on ovals do they throw a caution and reset the field. On road courses they give the stage points at a certain lap but they just continue to run without a caution. Also in NASCAR restarts are side by side in this case because of the wet weather they did restart single file which led to a better start of no big pile-ups at the first turn.

To be fair to most of the top 10, including the 31 who SVG passed for the lead, they were on 15 lap older tires so they had no chance to hold him off. It definitely helped a lot throughout then final 20 laps, especially the last 10. Put that advantage with a World Class road/street racer in top equipment and it's the perfect storm for such a driver. I've been watching NASCAR since I was 5(34years), so I have seen road racers do well. This "Next Gen" or Gen 7 car is so different from the cars they used to run and much more like sports cars and Supercars than the previous generations of cars.
I was cheering for him towards the end, so I'm not trying to lessen the accomplishment, just keep things in perspective. NASCAR has never done a street race until now. Their bread and butter is the ovals. It would be interesting to see SVG on an oval like Dover, Bristol or their most challenging track, Darlington. NASCAR drivers are decent road racers, but they're elite on ovals. That's what these guys grew up doing, racing at local short tracks and moving up the ranks. Most grew up on pavement, but 3 of the biggest talents we have here actually grew up on dirt ovals. Those drivers being Kyle Larson(#5), Tyler Reddick(#45), and Christopher Bell(#20). Larson is possibly the best dirt racer in the US and still competes during the week in a series he co-owns and in the "World of Outlaws," which is the premier dirt series. He races half a dozen different dirt cars, the main one being Winged Sprint Cars. They're absolute beasts! 1400lbs with driver and over 900 horsepower.
If that sounds cool as hell, just search "Kyle Larson World Of Outlaws" and check it out for yourselves. In 2021, the same year Larson won 10 races and a NASCAR title, he also won roughly 50% of all the dirt races he competed in that season and 1/3 of all the races he competed in, 33 wins in 97 total races. It's one of the greatest seasons of probably any driver in auto racing history.
Larson is also going to cross over for the Indy 500 next season and do "the double," which means two races in the sameday - the Indy 500 at around noon and the Coca-Cola 600 in the evening. Everyone here will be watching that weekend to see how he does.

Now if you win any of the first 2 stages, you get points for Playoffs. In stage 3, if you win that stage, not only you get playoff points but you have locked your spot into the playoff chase. @ksteinwand6744 ปีที่แล้ว

I didn't catch in most of the comments that someone didn't answer a couple of your questions (and if they did, my bad on the extra explanation). So stage racing in NASCAR is just that, parts of the race cut into different segments. But it's something that can seem all over the place from someone outside of the sport. So each race has 3 stages (with the exception of the Coke 600 which has 4 because it's 600 miles/956.6 km as compared to a 500 mi/804.7 km event) and each stage length varies. There isn't exactly a set standard for the length of each stage, but they generally range from 20-30% of the total race distance for the first two stages and then 40-60% for the third stage. The reason for the variance is meant so that both the first and second stage will require the teams to make a single pit stop if the entire stage goes green with no caution. Points are awarded to the stage winner and to the top 10 finishers in the stage, which is a very big deal because of how much impact there is. So stage one and two each pay out 10 points for first, 9 for second, 8 for third and so on. And then at the end of the race, it's the standard 40 points for first, 39 for second, 38 for third, and again so on. So getting as many stage points on top of the overall points pay is especially crucial because that's going to affect the championship picture (which I'm gonna complicate really quickly). The biggest importance for winning the stage however is that it earns them what's known as a Play Off point.
I'm gonna apologize now because I'm realizing that this is about to be a text wall, so I'm gonna do the best I can. So NASCAR runs 38 events in the season. 2 events are exhibitional (The Clash at the very start and The All-Star about 10 or 11 races into the season), the first 26 points paying races are what's known as the regular season, and the final 10 are known as the Playoffs. And it works just as it sounds. 3 races each for 3 rounds, the final race is for the championship. Now to qualify for the playoffs, there's two different ways. As long as you are a full time competitor, if you win a race in the first 26 races, you're in (unfortunately SVG isn't qualified because he doesn't race NASCAR full time). And each win earns you 5 play off points. That means if you can win the first two stages and the overall race, that earns you 7 play off points. The second way is to point your way in. The Playoffs consists of 16 drivers. So winners have first seed. After that is based on points. So for example if in the top 20 drivers there are 12 race winners, the 12 winners will be qualified, even if 3 of them are outside of the top 16 in points. So the more winners, the more important points are for those who haven't won. And in the absolutely insane chance that that there are more than 16 winners (which almost happened last year with 15), those with the most playoff points get in. Sounds confusing for sure, I don't blame you. Once you get yourself wrapped around the idea, it's actually very simple, but at first, very confusing.
Now, here's where playoff points (via stage or race wins) come in with a massive importance. Once the playoffs start, it goes from 16 drivers to 12, to 8, and then the final 4 in a winner takes all. To get into the next round, you either have to win or earn the points. And each round resets the points. However, playoff points don't reset. So if you enter the first round with 14 playoff points and advance to the next round, you start that round with 14 points (or more if you won a stage or a race). Make it to the final round, then all points are out the window, you just have to finish ahead of the other 3 drivers to win the championship. Also, you still have race all the other cars who aren't eligible for the championship in each of those races. I mean a 312 mi/502 km race with only 4 cars on track is kinda boring. Which means you can finish 5th in that last race, but if you finish ahead of the other 3, congratulations on your championship.
Okay, so how does explaining the championship format tie into the explanation of stage racing? Because it goes back to the point where it can seem all over the place. Now before this season, every track followed the same format. Run stage 1, full course caution. Run stage 2, full course caution. Then all out to the checkered. Now while the main problem overall is a very contested argument for every NASCAR fan being that the racing was essentially being broken up, it was practically universal in the agreement for this problem affecting road courses. Because of the various methods to save fuel on a road course, it meant that you could run a full stage without needing to pit for fuel or tires. Now it would seem like a simple premise, run well enough to win the first stage, come in to pit, repeat stage two, and then go for the win. Problem though was what became known as flipping the stage. So if you came down pit road right before the end of the stage for fuel and tires, when the next stage started, you'd be out in front of all the others who pit during that caution. Sure, you'd miss out on winning that stage for an extra playoff point. But it kept you out front, which meant it kept you in position to win the race. And as I explained earlier, a win is 5 playoff points. And if you haven't already won, it's a greater incentive to win the race and gain those 5 playoff points than it would to just earn 1 or 2. So begining this season, NASCAR decided to skip the full course cautions only at the road courses at the end of each stage. Which meant that strategy actually meant something for road courses instead of flipping stages. It's improved the road course races drastically (at least in my opinion).
As for your other question regarding Overtime (presented by Credit One Bank, gotta get that good ol' American capitalism in there lol), that's actually very simple. NASCAR wants to be able to give fans a green flag finish. Having a race end under yellow can be frustrating for fans of any motorsport. I mean you've got a fantastic side by side battle for the lead, they're switching positions every corner practically, a third car comes into the mix, and holy hell this is shaping up to be one of the best finishes of the year aaaaannnd then a car in the back gets destroyed, and brings out the caution with 2 laps to go. Goodbye awesome finish. So NASCAR decided about a decade ago at this point to implement what's known to us as Overtime, simply because it's going past the scheduled distance, which gives the chance to have one last good battle for the win. Rules are simple, if a caution comes out that would extend past the scheduled distance, it now becomes 2 laps to go. All the caution laps get ran for a clear track, green flag drops, 2 laps to go. If there's a caution in the first lap, rinse and repeat, now we got another overtime finish. If they complete that first lap without a caution and they take the white flag, the next flag ends the race, doesn't matter if it's a caution flag or the checkered flag. For the most part a large majority of the fan base enjoys it, but it can get pretty ugly at the same time. All you have to do is check out this year's race at Circuit of The Americas (which Jensen Button did run by the way, and hilariously said that that single race played out like an entire season of F1), and you can see the ugly side of Overtime finishes. It's kind of become a running gag as to whether or not that race is actually finished at this point lol.
And then although I don't think you actually posed the question for this or not, but I'll throw in some additional in regards to the overall reduced distance. So normally the only reason why a race would have it's scheduled distanced shortened is because of weather. Obviously on ovals, rain will do this, but as long as the race completes either 50% of the scheduled distance (or stage two, which is already past 50% to begin with, which makes it absurdly stupid to think about), the race can be considered official. So if the race goes caution free for the first 198 laps of a 400 lap race, caution gets called for rain, once the caution laps put it at 201, it's a official race if they can't get back to green flag conditions by the end of the day. Obviously however, road courses are a little different to that because we've got tires now for us to race in wet weather conditions (check out the 2021 race at CotA to see where we learned our limitations in wet weather). Despite that fact though, we are still limited by the unfortunante truth that is day light. And while Chicago does indeed have street lights, their lighting system isn't sufficient enough for us to safely run in the dark as we obviously don't have actual headlights, no matter how friggin cool it made the Garage 56 car look this year at Le Mans. So NASCAR made the decision to reduce the scheduled distance, and in that decision, they accounted for enough time to have for a potential overtime finish (which in this case, was still within regulation, but hey, we're Americans, can ya blame us? Lol)
Once again, I do apologize for the wall of text, but I hope that helps answer some questions for you.

The way stages work in NASCAR is actually fairly simple. Stage 1 and 2 tend to be around 1/4 and 1/4 the distance and the Final Stage is 1/2. Longer races usually split completely into 1/3's. The first two Stages are simply automatic full course cautions where the top 10 drivers are given playoff points good for the final ten races where NASCAR resets the top 16 drivers in points and essentially runs an elimination tournament. The "Final Stage" is really just the end of the race if you will.
Its a way to create drama throughout the race by incentivizing drivers to race hard and accumulate points for the final stretch of the season. On Road Courses, however, the top 10 in each stage gets the points but the race stays green. Only the Ovals is there cautions during a stage. It creates strategic drama by splitting the pace of the race up. Usually teams not in contention will pit before a stage, the race leaders pit during the stage break, and essentially the field is flip flopped.
NASCAR fans are split on Stage racing. The average TV fan will probably treat it as a halftime like in a football game but racing purists think its a gimmick way to entertain fans at the expense of professional racing sometimes being boring. As someone who considers themself diehard but not a purist, I dont really mind the stages. It definitely does its job and you can usually find some good battles in the top half of the field trying to squeak into the top 10 for points.

He’s had a stellar weekend for sure, from my own selfish perspective I wouldn’t like to see Shane go to a full time NASCAR drive, I think him racing ovals would be a waste of his talents but if it his dream then I hope he gets there.
I really look forward to watching the Supercars and it’s mainly because of Shane so it’d be a bit off a bummer to see him go, I also wonder if Jess would follow him over particularly since she’s a big NASCAR fan..

Remember, SVG isn't the first from supercars to win in nascar. That title would go to Marcos Ambrose, who was full time 08 to 14 getting 2 wins 2 years in a row at Watkins Glen 2011 and 2012 beating out Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch who would go on to win championships. Ambrose's battle with Keselowski has to be one of the most iconic finishes in Nascar history and what makes the win even more impressive is that Keselowski would become the 2012 champion meaning for just a moment Ambrose was better than a champion.

If you were wondering why so many people crashed during the race NASCAR has never raced on a Street Course before this race. The drivers also had to deal with wet conditions which drivers do not often have to race in due to only being able to race on Road Courses or Short Tracks which take up much less of the schedule then the traditional ovals NASCAR races on.

Drivers do get points at the end of each stage; more specifically the top 10 with the stage winner receiving a bonus point for the playoffs. (Yes, NASCAR has playoffs. It's kind of stupid, especially with the elim style they have now.) Typically, they would put out a yellow at the end of each stage, and for this season, they opted to not throw yellows at the end of the stages for road courses since they're much shorter distance wise than a typical oval race. Most oval races are around 300-400 miles with the occasional 500 or even 600 mile race while most road course races in NASCAR are around 250-300 miles, give or take. Honestly, they shouldn't throw out yellows at the end of stages regardless of which track they're at, but it's a step in the right direction.

It does mainly matter what car he gets in
Track house would give him good shots to win at roadcourses but in ovals i expect him to finish 25-30th
And this win although historic and very impressive does have a huge luck factor with the race being shortened
    The first street course race
    The rain
But its impressive he didnt make many mistakes and he deserves the win nonetheless

NASCAR fans HATE to have a race end on a yellow flag. As a result, many years ago, NASCAR made the rule that if the yellow flag is in effect at the end of the race, the race will be lengthened until the final 2 laps are under a green flag. The results is an overtime of a green flag, then a white flag, then a checkered flag...Green White Checkered overtime. If the 2 lap "shootout" results in another yellow, they do another 2 lap Green White Checkered overtime as many times as it takes to finish under green. One caveat, though. If, during an overtime, the leader takes the white flag, then the next flag ends the race whether it's yellow or checkered. Many races have been lost during overtime because the leader ran out of gas during overtime.
It's been 60 years since a driver won in his first NASCAR race, not 6. Johnny Rutherford did it in 1963 at Daytona.

    ***********Heads Up**********
    SVG is back Oct 13th!
    Along with Brodie”bush”Kostecki!
I hope this comment reaches u in time… on October 13th at 1:30pm local time (idk the conversion time for u) SVG will be back for his second race in Nascar. Along with a debut for V8 Supercar racer, Brodie Kostecki. As well as endurance racings, kamui kobayashi and returning British F1 champ jenson button. I hope u can check it out live somehow.
Also, I wanted to say that stages wins are rewarded with playoff points. Nascar has 36 races a season. After 26, anyone who’s either won a race or are in the top 16 in points go into a 10 week playoffs called “chase for the cup. Points from stages r used as almost a head start in points when the playoffs begin, making them valuable because after every 3 races in the playoffs, 4 drivers r eliminated, until the final race that has 4 championship contenders. I hope this helps. Oh and in the post race interviews SVG said he has 2 more years under contract in the v8 supercars series but said he’d be interested in possibly joining nascar after that. Keep up the great content and I hope to see a reaction video to the Indianapolis road race lol
