I own one, a blue 10 footer. There is a dearth of feedback on it, so here we go: for those so inclined, I am a distance runner, so I bought this with the intention that I could “run” on the water. The end result was somewhere in between aggressive power walking and a stair-stepper. You can get some speed going, and it’s still fun, but it’s not exactly what I expected. You can’t get a peak stride on this baby. Demo first if possible. With that said, It’s a good cardiovascular and lower leg workout. I was able to reach distant barrier islands off VA’s coast with relative ease thanks to this board. You can work up a sweat, but using the mirage drive won’t really work your core like a conventional sup. You need to invest in a bag or the cart to transport it safely on your own. They are cumbersome, so loading and unloading can be a challenge. It’s well designed but the price is steep. Pros: it cuts through chop and waves and remains relatively stable. It’s easy to use even by people with poor balance. It tracks well. You can power through tidal currents much easier than using a regular sup. You can trek a long distance in a short period of time. You can realistically cover about 4 to six miles an hour depending on wind, currents and tide. I did a 23 mile trek across open water in 5 to six hours with minimal effort. it’s sturdy, and convertible to a regular paddle board. Easy to set up, easy to convert, easy to steer. Everyone seems to enjoy it. It definitely turns heads on the water. Cons: the price is prohibitively high, hence why I bought a demo board for a reduced price. Its fiber glass hull is not fool proof unlike some of the hardier Bic board hulls out there. Although it’s tough and reinforced fiberglass, it can still scratch and break, so you can’t be rough with this board. I wouldn’t loan mine out without direct supervision. I already had to repair a ding that I have no idea where it came from... ding gnomes...I suspect. More moving parts means more maintenance. Make sure the hardware on the mirage drive’s cables are snug and lubricated. It’s cumbersome and leans on the heavyside, and because of its fragility, you have to be extra careful when loading and unloading/transporting it to the water or portaging. The mirage drive doesn’t work in water shallower than knee deep. Always bring a backup paddle with you in the event the tide gets too low or you have a malfunction with the mirage drive. In conclusion: It’s very efficient, therefore, you won’t get the same core work out using the mirage drive like a conventional paddle-board. But you can convert it to a regular paddleboard. It’s nice but not perfect. They initially priced these too high, though that may come down. Only purchase it if you intend on using it a lot, or plan on going long distances like myself, otherwise it’s a novelty paddle board that I doubt will catch on with the general public if the price point remains where it’s currently at. Remember to practice safe boating, have a float plan, be prepared, and go with a buddy. Hope this helps. Overall 4 outta 5 stars. It’s a cool and a well engineered board overall, and I think you will enjoy it if you can afford it, otherwise just go with a regular sup to mess around on.
*Online Hobie Kayak Dealer:* ecofishingshop.com/pages/search-results-page?q=hobie&page=1&rb_vendor=Hobie&rb_price=961%2C5499%7C10.9900%2C5499.0000&aff=20 *Motor Kits For Hobie Kayaks:* bit.ly/BixpyMotorKits The Hobie Eclipse is a pedal driven paddle board. It comes in 10ft and 12ft model as well as standard or Dura edition. Dura edition is a more robust hull for commercial and rental fleet markets. It has similar style pedal drive to that of the Mirage drive kayaks like the popular Hobie Outback and Pro Angler. Big difference is the pedal drive posts and fins. The Eclipse has beefy Flow Fin 90s which are a split/butterfly fin design. You operate the Eclipse almost like a stair stepper exercise machine. The drive well on the Eclipse is in fact nearly identical and could accept the Hobie kayak pedal drives however it would be awkward to pedal without configuring a seat and alternative rudder controls. We think it would be awesome if Hobie made this a kayak and paddleboard hybrid with options to use as kayak or paddleboard. Either way, this pedal board Eclipse is sweet and certainly moves across the water with ease. I think we may have to get one. Wife wants one really bad! I think it would be awesome for fishing! I would probably mount a rail mount rod holder to the handlebars and put cooler on the back!
Just wondering how you put the drive up in shallow water .. any tips . Bought one for our lake … I am a marathon runner and wanted something in my retirement to exercise and save the knees … loving this board .. I bought the 12 foot .. we are in Canada so really hard to find one … covers are impossible to find now ? Guessing the patent is running out and there will be many Asian versions that come available … super sturdy, easy to assembly … storing is a bugger as it is heavy but I ordered the wheels so we will see … they say not to store in heat or on water …. If it is at a cottage where should you store it then in a garage ? Will the board be damaged by the sun ??? So question is how long can I leave in the sun? What about the cold ? Canada has cold winters so where do I need to store .. does it need to be in a heated covered area ? It is extremely fragile … but given the price, trust me you will treat it like a baby … Don’t loan it to a friend that is not obsessively careful
WOW! I think I need to start saving for one of those! A chair would be nice, but I'm thinking a sail might fit in there too! (I wonder if they thought about that?) Very cool!
It caters to a specific buyer demographic I feel. I imagine it to be most popular with health conscious females. My wife absolutely loved it and wants me to buy one. I liked it, but think I prefer their kayaks more if I could buy only one craft.
How do you get back on it, if it were to tip over in deep water? Do the handlebars end up underwater, how do you flip the board back over/upright? Would love to see a video about the above.
I would flip it over like I do with kayaks. I have several kayaks flipping videos. It should be easy to flip this back over even in deep water. Handlebars would be underwater if it flipped, but that is no big deal. Just grab one side and flip back over. Climb on from back like a surf board.
She is camera shy No actually she is just a stock photo used to point at the product. Wanted a clean white background thumbnail and more female representation. Wife would have tried the board but being pregnant and high risk she couldn’t. Paddle boards are incredibly popular with the female market. So the thumbnail fits. Also, I wasn’t able to take another photo of myself to photoshop in...been in hospital with wife due to high risk pregnancy. So stock photo girl it is! 😂 I did have to photoshop a PFD on her because one viewer complained and said bikinis (female water attire) are apparently not family friendly. Can’t please everyone. Lol
Search online. I found mine from a retailer that advertised on Craigslist(in Loveland, Colorado). It seems like they are hard to locate at retailers. I love mine so much, I am looking for a second one. Where I got mine has SOLD OUT.
I would definitely use that to your advantage! haha. I would definitely fish from this thing. Great for sight fishing flats, probably bass fishing, or even maybe fly fishing. My wife wants one after the baby is born. Probably will save up and get one then.
We didn’t plan out the thumbnail during filming. Also, only recently has wife gotten somewhat comfortable on being in video. I’m trying to include more of my family and friends in videos.

Excellent review! Thanks for sharing your feedback as an owner! 🙂👍
Thanks for the nice review by the way.
Great Video! Love your reviews! Wife wants a paddleboard. This might be a good option for both of us. I could see it being good for fishing.
I want one! I would definitely put rod holders on it. Would be a great casting platform.
I agree. I think it would work great for fishing too! First thing I thought when I saw the video!
Awesome board! Wife will love this!

Will love to go fishing in this one

Very cool!
That would definitely be cool. They could do a lot more with this Eclipse model. It is a cool concept. If I get one I would mod the heck out of it!
Hope the birth went well. This looks like one of those things that's fun at first and gets stored away never to be used again.

Where is the blond girl from your thumbnail?
She is camera shy

@@KayakDIY hope your wife and baby are ok.
Does anyone know how much they cost and where to buy?
Search online. I found mine from a retailer that advertised on Craigslist(in Loveland, Colorado). It seems like they are hard to locate at retailers. I love mine so much, I am looking for a second one. Where I got mine has SOLD OUT.
$1899 for the 12 footer. 1799 for 10.5 footer. I recommend going 12.
It looks like you riding a bike on the water
Blake Hurst LoL. It does feel weird.
My wife wants a stair climber. I want a pedal craft.
I would definitely use that to your advantage! haha. I would definitely fish from this thing. Great for sight fishing flats, probably bass fishing, or even maybe fly fishing. My wife wants one after the baby is born. Probably will save up and get one then.
It's a win win! I think i got my wife interested.
Put a Larry chair on it indeed go
Agreed..I think it would be easy to put a chair on and make a hand held rudder control adapter.
Make it to go a little faster with less effort.
So why didn’t you put you wife in the title screen/thumbnail ?
We didn’t plan out the thumbnail during filming.
Also, only recently has wife gotten somewhat comfortable on being in video. I’m trying to include more of my family and friends in videos.
where is the girl on the thumbnail? anyone, anyone….bueller…anyone?
Great clickbait girl on the thumbnail...then a blah review? I don't think so.
I know right! 😂
Thanks for letting me know.
Jajaja, presentan una chica y sale un tipo
