How to use a Cuttlebug and an Evolution Advanced

- Hello crafters, this is a video requested by many subbies who want to buy a die cutting machine. I only have these two machines and in this video I am showing how they work and I am making a demonstration on how to use them with the thin dies, thick dies, and the embossing folders. Thank you for making this video! I won the Evolution machine at an auction and I didn’t have a clue how to work it… the instructions only told me what it does, not how to do it. I like that you used your “old” pieces to demo, it shows that the machine is trustworthy, lol. Love your handy tool tip too!
For the WRMK Evolution Advanced, you can flatten out the cutting plate in a few seconds with a heat press. I LOVE this machine. So much less hassle.

I know this video is a year old but I just purchased the we R memory Keepers die/embossing machine. I have been searching for tutorials. Thank you so much I didnt know we could use the thick dies. I bought mine used with no instructions. I did get the electric handle and highly recommend it for anyone who has arthritis or has a hard time with the crank handles.

Cuttlebug also has an embossing mat (light gray). Being a bit thicker than Spellbinders mat, it doesn't require shims. It also works well with my Fiskars Texture plates, which is thick, so one B plate is not needed, and, with my brass stencils. One of my daughters gifted it to me for Christmas.

Great video, Christy! This is awesome for beginners, but I enjoyed it too! I wish I had seen a video like this when I bought my Cuttlebug many years ago. It took a lot of trial and error to figure it out, even with the instructions. Thank you for making everything easy to understand. I always enjoy your videos and tutorials!

Thank you for sharing, Christy! I love that you can adjust the machine so you don't need shims. I have several die cutting machines, so I can't buy another one, but as soon as one breaks, I'll get that one. I already have the plates that come with the evolution, mine are from when they were Genius Platform. I love them, I use those for most of my machines, except for the Callibur. My evolution mat looks like yours (curved) so I bought the set of big shot plates (clear) and use one and wrote a,b,c & d on each of the 4 corners and rotate every use and the clear plate has not warped. Wish I thought of that before I wore my evolution mat out. I also use the tiny clear ones and just bought from Michaels the spellbinders tiny one but haven't used it yet. I use the clear ones with the bigz dies also. Thank you for video also if cut knives are facing up the plate will warp right away along with bending the die. At least mine did. I also use toothbrush.

You may have done a video or talked about it in one previously but could you tell me how you attach those very intricate die cuts to your cards, do you use glue dots or tape or what?

TFS Christy, I still use my cuttlebug, it was my first ever die cutting machine. I got a big kick a couple of Christmas ago, but gosh space wise is a pain to store, I mean I love my big kick is just that big and my space is limited.
I wanted to get the Big Kick too but I found the Evolution Advanced much better and easy to store and I love it so much. Blessings, Christy
I agree I bought the big kick, it just so big and takes a lot of space. I bought the cuddel bug at a G. Sale (cheap) and love it!
Thanks for this info, but i just received my Evolution Embosser, it's an updated version, i'm excited to start using it, but once out of the box, i already have an issue, i don't know how to open up the drawers, they are locked in place i see the up & down arrows, how do i get the drawers to open i can't get to the handle & the side knob doesn't turn easily at all like it shows on any reviews, also the one i got is white not the grayish silver i was expecting, i'd appreciate your help, thanks a bunch.
Have you ever seen, or used, the adaptable motor with this machine? I wondered how you like that , I have Fibrmyalgia and turning the handle would be difficult so I was going to get the motor adapter. Than kyou

Thank you for sharing this video. I learned so much. From these two products which one would you choose over the other? Also I just bought a Cricut machine so I'm not sure I need one of these machines. Well maybe for embossing only. Do you see any other benefits in me buying one of these machines. I really want one but not sure it's necessary.
It depends on how fast do you want to make your project. I make crafts almost everyday and I am always in a hurry so my dies help me to finish my projects much faster. You take more time cutting with the Cricut and if you use it often you must have the refill of the blades. Well, that's my point of view, think about how much time you dedicate to crafts and the investment that you have to do buying the machine and dies. Blessings, Christy
What happens if you forget to change the wheel from die cut to embossing, does the machine get stuck? Thank you

Did you ever try the big shot plates Christy? The reason I am asking is because I am going to buy an Evolution this next week and it is 2 years since you did the tutorial. Have you got any more tips before I purchase it this next week now that this long of time has passed? I thought I would also purchase the B magnetic plate to use with steel dies since you have to have 2 and it only comes with one for cutting out things with those.
Hello Debbie, I didn't buy another die cutting machine but I had a replace of the cutting mat. I do not recommend you the magnetic mats, I use one piece of washi tape to secure the die into the paper. Blessings, Christy
Hello Im from México, I just have one doubt, I hope you can help me. Im planning to buy the evolution machine but first I need to know if the sizzix 3D Embossing folders (the red ones) are compatible with the machine, do I have to by an extra mat or something, thank you very much
