    Volkswagen have done an excellent job with this car's design, looks so good in my opinion. Going to be so bold to say that it looks better than: X3/X4, Q5/Q3/Q2, and the GLC.

    Detailed and professional review. Had a 12 Tiguan and was waiting for the new one to replace it with but wasn't interested in getting the long wheelbase model heading to the US market. I also wanted a TDI 4Motion model to improve the fuel economy. After the whole emissions thing, I realized that wasn't coming either. Furthermore, VW cars sold here in North America tend to be less equipped to contain pricing. As good as this car seems to be, if I can't purchase it with features available in other markets and on competing products, I don't really need to buy it. I will say the redesign seems to be a overdue improvement. The interior looks handsome and exterior appears conservatively appealing.

    Thanks a lot for review! VW Tiguan is the icon of style, impressed by design and all modern equipment (especially R-line). It’s my dream to drive Tiguan and if no war or revolution I bay it definitely. A friend of mine is Putin’s friend and he prefers German cars, “the best choice”, he said. That’s right! And new Tiguan is the best proof of it!

    Thanks Thomas, excellent review.
    I still like this car, especially in ruby red. And everything seems to be just right. The exterior is rather 'simple' and a bit boxy, but they still somehow managed to make it very attractive. And it looks fine to me with the 18" rims, no need for the big guns! :-)
    In the interior too, everything just right. Looks very nice in the light color with the different fabrics on the seats.
    Your review seems to confirm what you already suspected on your first test of the Tiguan: it's quite a comfortable and relaxing car to drive.
    I wonder how the Seat Ateca will stack up against this. Seat likes to stress that it is a sporty car to drive, which makes me wonder if they maybe let the comfort suffer for that.

    +Autogefühl - Thomas, I noticed that on this (and the Tiguan R-line) video, you show that they have improved the sensitivity of the closing mechanism for the tail gate. But it only seems to work once.
    I think the reason may be, that when it is asked to close the first time, it will stop at any sign of a problem, but I think it is likely, that VW made it so that if you then tell the tail gate to close again after it stopped, probably you actually want it to push (for instance if a lot of luggage is in the trunk).
    I'm not sure, so maybe you could test it, but I think it works like this; if it stops from registering e.g. a person (like your arm in the test), and you then press the button twice (one to open, one to re-close), it will assume you are aware and actually want to close it. So it will not stop easily. If you allow it to close fully, maybe wait five seconds, and then open it again. Then I think that the system is reset, so that if you attempt to close it on your arm again, my guess is that it will stop like the first time.
    So basically like they told you; it's always a compromise between actually working system and security, so maybe, they made the compromose like so? :)
    P.S.: I think it's really good that you helped raise awareness of this problem. I had actually not considered testing it, untill I saw you did it in an old video. :) Good job!

    I appreciate the effort you put into these detailed videos, but they would be even better if you could lower the music volume dramatically, because hearing what you're saying is a lot more important than hearing the music. The new Tiguan has a classy refined look. Much better than the old style for sure. Also I like the fact that the US version is a little longer and uses regular fuel. The price of premium fuel can add up if you do a lot of driving. I only wish that VW would give the 2.0 US engine a bit more horsepower. The Euro diesel version has 190hp vs the US gas version with only 184hp? That's a bit low considering the US version will weigh a lot more with the added length. By the time I am ready to purchase, I hope VW will have addressed the engines' lack a horsepower.

    Hi Thomas and Autogefühl team, another great review from you (I will stop to write it, it's like saying water is wet...). I tried this Tiguan last month in some events here in Switzerland. I can say it's for sure the best premium/non premium SUV in his category, but unfortunately here in Switzerland, when you take some options, the price become almost premium. The Tiguan I tried was very well equipped, but the price was around 55k euro, which is a lot (it was the 180ch petrol engine). A Hyundai Tucson is much less premium, especially inside, which looks kind of cheap compare to the amazing feeling of the TIguan, when you enter inside, but the Tucson cost around 15k less euro than the Tiguan with almost same engine. so, we really have to think if we wanna have a SUV not premium for cheap price or a Tiguan almost premium for almost premium price.
    You are lucky in Germany because german brand are so much cheaper than here.I should import one from your contry ;-)

    Long time car fan- I visit many car review sites- really appreciate your professional and thorough reviews. Your comparisons between makes/models is a welcome addition. Driving a 2010 GLK350 and looking into new mid size SUV- viewed your Tiguan and Tucson reviews with great interest... wish there was a head to head comparison review! Some things missing in a few of the reviews and important to many USA drivers: does the vehicle have the start stop feature; does speed control remain after a stop or must be reset; does speed control allow free wheeling on downhill or does it maintain set speed; traffic signals in side mirrors; heated/ventilated seats; AWD vs FWD in same model; full size or compact spare tire; anticipated service and repair costs (USA drivers find high service fees for European brands) ; Japanese/Korean brands seem to offer more gadgets/features per price than comparable European model. LOOKING Forward to more reviews- love your style of speech, delivery is calm and clear and overall is as pleasant as it is informative.

    Not too much of a fan of the front, the rear is ok but the front for me is quite strange. Thankfully the interior is very nice. However, you may have mentioned something about this later in the video (I can't remember) however at 10:56 is that a transmission fault on the dashboard?

      +Robert1970 at least here in Argentina the TDI 140 has been discontinued and this new generation will be here a petrol only car due to poor fuel quality and possible injection problems .

    I would go for "On Road" version. Love the wheels :) But black no thanks ! The Red Orange colour is original. For the interior, black and white is great but my seven years old daughter... you know :) But yes, no leather for the seats is the best choice. Carbon trim is (plastic I guess ??) really amazing too. Panoramic roof is a good option too. Best : rear seats adjustable.

    Great review Thomas, thank you. How would you compare this Tiguan with existing Q5 and XC60, all similarly equipped and all with 150 hp diesels/AT, Audi and Tiguan also AWD? I'm deciding among these three (Q5 and XC60 have some good prices these days, since there will be new versions this year yet). Thanks for advice.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lukas thanks man! Q5 is also a great compact SUV no question, and it does come very close to the Tiguan. What's the price difference for you? The XC60 is also nice, the biggest of those, but seems a lil oldschool comparing to the others

    • @ziloyt
      @ziloyt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Autogefühl The price difference is neglible. All 3, similarly equiped (but Tiguan having better safety features for that price - i' m guessing mainly because it is more modern) around €40 ths. My main focus is on safety, space, comfort, refinement and overall suv and quality feeling. Will be using it in city and highway transfers.

    Brilliant comparison Thomas ! I really like this new Tiguan compared to the old one, and definitely I would go for the 18' alloy wheels combined with the offroad package, because as you said early, it has a higher ground clearance in the front and back.
    About the engines Thomas, have you found out if the 150 HP diesel engine has or not an ADBlue tank and how does it feels this engine combined with 4motion and DSG for every day driving and some offroad parts, compared with 190 HP version ? What is the most suitable engine for this car, in your opinion for a normal driver ?

This new generation is definitely bigger, and more 'family oriented'. BTW, nice review ! Cheers

    Hi Thomas, excellent review as always. I've ordered a car with the 220 TSI engine 2017 year model, most wanted equipment included here in Sweden. And of course no leather seats :-)
    The equipment level is like the German highline versions with some extras included.
    Here in Sweden the TSI 220 is more expensive than the TDI 190 (for the Passat it is the other way around), the only difference I know is the exterior rear design. Do you know what else differers, if any?
    Cheers

Either way I'm longing for my new car, and still you're an impressive reviewer, no one can take that away from you.

      Tiguan TSI 220 also includes DCC (adaptive chassi control), at least in Sweden. I hope to enlighten someone ;-)
      Not my choice, but for free so thanks VW. I would have chosen the panorama roof instead, any day :-)
      I would have been a good sales person for VW, but I'm not. My gratitude is for free, currently I own a VW Golf SC/Variant (TSI 105 and pacific blue color) -14 until Tiguan delivery ;-)

    I think you make a mistake when you talk about a smaller screen. The screen in the Tiguan is always 20,3 cm (both the Discover Media and Discover Pro).
    The Discover Pro has as extra options a hard disk and Google Maps/Google Streetview.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert1970 There are two different screen sizes:
      Radio „Composition Colour“: 12,7 cm diameter
      Radio „Composition Media“: 20,3 cm
      But indeed if you have a GPS, it is...
      Navigationsfunktion „Discover Media“: 20,3 cm
      Navigationssystem „Discover Pro“: 20,3 cm
      So what I meant is you can go with the basic stuff and no GPS but then use your smartphone as GPS. And now to make it even more complicated: The mean thing is that you cannot order App Connect for the VERY basic radio =)Gotta have at least Composition Media.

    • @perfectionist1967
      @perfectionist1967 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Autogefühl Ok thanks, now it's clear. I thought that you meant the difference in diameter between the Discover Pro and Media. They both are 20,3 cm. You are right that the Composition Colour is 12,7 cm and smaller and is a cheaper option. First, as a newcomer to your channel, congrats on a most informative review !!! I live in Italy and have option of 1.4L petrol, 150 hp, or 2 Diesel engines: 2.0 TDI @ 150 HP, or 2.0TDI @ 190HP. The petrol seems underpowered for a car of this size. Would you agree? (I saw your rec for 2.0L petrol 180 HP). Which of the 2 Diesel engines would you recommend? The higher HP diesel is 2.300 euros more. (I am thinking of DSG 4 motion btw)Many thanks. PS: in recent months, I have looked at the Honda CRV, new hybrid RAV4, and Hyndai Tucsco

      +James W Frank thanks man! will u drive fully loaded with a lot of ppl?

    • @jameswfrank4080
      @jameswfrank4080 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for fast response!!. (I wish this 'customer focus" were available here in Italy!!), No, I will rarely have a fully loaded vehicle with 5 pax and bags. I would be using the car with air-conditioning of course, and I imagine that draws from the power available. I wish the petrol version you recommended were available, but VW here says there is little demand for petrol cars in Italy. Just as an aside, my wife (and I too) have been "fighting" to get a car with a light interior. There are few Asian car companies that offer a light interior unless special ordered. We have decided on the "off-white" with black panel seats on the Tiguan, even though we do not find it attractive in the photos/video. What are your thoughts? thanks, again !

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James W Frank you re welcome m8. Hmm I dont think the 1.4 l petrol 150 hp will be underpowered if you are driving mostly _not_ heavily loaded. It still has a turbo and that one usually gives you enough power when you hammer the throttle. Me personally I wouldnt be afraid to go for the 1.4 l turbo. Maybe your dealer has some VW car in stock where you can test that engine to prove it yourself? How many kilometres are you driving a year? If its not UBER much, then I d really go for the petrol

    • @jameswfrank4080
      @jameswfrank4080 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again, Thomas. You have made me think! I don't drive a lot, maybe 10-15,000km/year, so I know the savings are not that great -if at all- for a diesel especially when the 1.4TSI is 5000 euros cheaper . But in Italy, the petrol is not offered with 4Motion which I wanted for a dirt road where we live and for the addional height (though 1 cm is really insignificant perhaps). Also, the petrol has ACT technology which has me a bit worried. Is this technology "tried, tested, and proven". I had not heard of it before. (I will re-look at your video to see if you mentioned it.) Grazie!

    Like the old style SUV looks, it needed the bigger size to compete, but the engine will be overmatched and equipped to look like these it will be much more expensive than the competition while being slower, and then there is the diesel issue that destroyed what little trust there was. VW dealers here have a bad rep.

    This vehicle looks like some SsangSyong designer made him !! previous generation looks much better from outside while this looks like some bigger box on 4 wheels!! i dont see some point for buying this car over BMW x1 which costs almost same or some 5-10% more with similar equipment and engines but performance,outside look,and anything others + after all BMW is BMW is worth that 5-10% price difference

    I am sorry did you say the spare wheel is an option. Really now that is cutting the weight at the risk of being stranded, and no I don't like space save wheels either let alone the can of tire foam, please can't we just have a proper spare even steel would be better

      At most vehicles, you can still get the spare wheel, but just optionally. Should be available
