I have the Retron 3, no HD, and I don’t think I’ve run into this issue yet, I haven’t tried to play all of my games on it yet though. I’ll have to check. Good video though 👍
From what I've read / heard, a standard model RetroN 3 has compatibility issues with certain NES / SNES games. There is a compatibility chart on DK Oldies although I'm not sure how comprehensive it is.
The 5 is software emulation, and unfortunately that comes with some performance issues that do interfere with gameplay. I love my Retron 5 HD for being able to back up save games. It doesn't work with multi carts, flash carts, there is some definite input lag, and the framerate sometimes has a dip followed by a sudden speedup--often resulting in the player's death. So I'm not a huge fan, but I keep it around for casual play and backing up saved games.
No clone system is 100 % compatible with all the games. It's just convenient that you can plug it into a modern display without having to buy an HDMI converter for the original hardware.
It is convenient in some ways. The tradeoff is, if the game(s) you bought it for are some of those affected, it defeats the whole point of the purchase.
Might want to check to make sure it has the latest firmware installed. I have a Retron 5 but won't use it anymore since it broke the pins on one of my NES games.
That's a good idea, I'll have to look into it. Yeah I've read about those cartridge slots causing problems. It's not a perfect fit but I haven't had to jam the carts in.
these clone consoles are basically emulation. i wont get into the whole techno babble but the way these consoles run is mostly a software render wish is why some games have issues or may look a little darker or sound slightly different. thats not to say that emulating is worse. just that the emulator that these consoles have are not running the game in the same way an actual NES is. i believe FPGA is the closest these clone consoles can get
i never owned one but i had a friend who had one and it stopped working after a year so because of that i never really bothered also i already own a top loader NES. the only decent clone console that i heard good things online is the retro freak but its really expensive. "if this works i wont even post this video" and me thinking "oh no what could possibly happen" lol
LOL! I wish it worked - sadly this console couldn’t make my dreams come true. I also heard about a retro tink thing to upscale NES footage from Brian. I’ll look into both.
I have a Retro Freak - and although it does work well, you should be aware its not really a "clone console" - it's an emulator with an attached ROM cartridge dumper - the Retron 5 has the same basic design. Operationally, it's pretty much the same - you put the cartridge in and play it, but internally it's being emulated.
Whats a good one to play NES/SNES games on???? I need something to play my NES Super Mario Bros 3 and my SNES Legend of Zelda link to the past on in one
My good friend swears by his RetroN 5, has only had 1 cart read issue in his years owning it. If you're okay using RBY for a CRT TV, my other friend recommended something called an FC Twin. It's not HDMi compatible though.

The retron 5 has yet to really fail me besides a few minor issues. But it's sad to see the retron 3 has so many issues
I always make this decision to get the budget friendly console and it ends up being cool for what it is yet disappointing in terms of features.

Thanks for the video Teddy. I was on the fence about getting one.
Of course, Tylord! Happy it proved useful.
I have the Retron 2 HD and I have had no issues. Works perfectly, glad I bought it.

Thanks man.
I just snagged a copy of Duck Tales for Nes and have drove myself crazy trying to pogo jump.
Is that an Insignia TV? I've got one myself. Very nice and also affordable.
NES Head here. Sorry to see this isnt perfect. I'll have to find alternative ways to play mario 1.
It’s okay NES Head. At least you have your original hardware hooked up to a CRT at all times.
😂
Hi! Do not blow into the cartridge, this will cause rust!
Good advice! I have isopropyl alcohol and an eraser handy!
Emulation wins again.
Eh. Emulation generally tarnishes the experience for me. I look at it as a last resort.

No clone system plays every game
Castlevania 3 doesn't play on any clone
So there are some chips that don't play on clones
I had so much problems with my retron console it went straight to the garbage bin.
It’s really unfortunate. If every unit did as advertised, it could be a great device.
Hello there. 😊Can Retron 3 also work with pirated cartridges like famiclone, dendy consoles? Thanks. 🙂
I have two homebrew style carts that function fine on there. An NES Hello Kitty Balloon Fight game and a SEGA Genesis multicart.

Could be an issue with mappers
Everdrive, 500 in 1.... running???!
The Console looks cool its a shame
I feel the same way: design-wise, it's my favorite of the RetroN consoles.
It’s a really good console actually
