Repairing generic snowblower drive line. Arctic life is hard on everything with six months of winter

  • Stretched chains and a bent axle is just much for this snowblower and it is heavy so the old man can not longer keep his drive clear. Lets dig into this and fix the problem so he keeps his independence during these harsh winters.

Howdy Simon- great fix on the snow blower. Even though I may not catch everything you are doing on the repairs, it’s still very interesting to watch. Thank you for the mechanical videos. It’s possible an old dog like me will learn something. Have a great weekend my friend. God bless

Thank you Paul, I just watched you time lapse video on the cabin but on a device where I could not leave a comment or like so well done excellent job I know you have many followers now building as a result of that series which is a huge credit to you. Funny but true story, as a kid I used to ride old motorcycles to the forest to build in the trees. Most of the time they would break down and I would have to fix them to get home. I am pleased you enjoy the mechanical repairs I am never sure if anyone is interested. Have a great weekend and stay safe.

Truely enjoyed that Simon. Just shows how important it is to have neighbours each other can rely on when one lives in remote areas and health issues occur. Thank you. Hope you are all well. ❤️🇦🇺🇸🇪

Hi Anne, I hope you are well. So much more could be achieved if most people banned together and stopped the pointless hatred and dis-respectfulness that seems to be plaguing this planet. I have seen it everywhere I have been and it even exists in this tiny village of just over 20 persons. I don't care for all that just doing my thing and did not charge him because he has helped me so much for the first few years I was here. Take care Anne much love to you.

@@arctic-rebel I suppose you are correct on the topic of nastiness, that is rampant globally. Can’t imagine what it would be like in a small community of 20 though! That would be bloody horrible though considering the utter remoteness! Keep well and safe ❤️

@@arctic-rebel thanks my friend. We're both doing well other then a sudden sinus cold or something trying to settle in. Very windy and lots of rain here lately. Spring g is trying but winters still holding on. Be safe, tell Sara hello please and we'll see you on the next one. I might try and make a video soon. Thanks!

Thanks Simon, great job, we have high winds here now gusts up to 50mph, I'll have more trees blown over in the woods. Take care

Hi Mark, for me the wind taking trees is great. It saves me the pain of cutting a standing tree and I get more lumber. Have a great weekend.

In my experience the sprocket wear is caused by the chain being stretched. As I'm sure you know, a stretched chain will not mate properly with the sprocket. It's too long, causing the hooked teeth. It's a shame how modern equipment is made with such cheap materials. For a light little unit like that snowblower those components should last practically forever. Good repair Simon, and stay well.

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Matthew, there is some stretching but mainly wear and bending of the sprocket axle for exactly the reason you point out. Cheap steel. It is responsible for most of the repairs and the finale destruction of most small machines. Have a good day and thanks.

Gee, its not like you dont have enough snow to try it out on. Presently, in upstate NY our snow is gone.

I have just come in from walking Kasper and it is 23 degrees below 0. No chance of it going anytime soon.

Looks like a blower that was made from 2 old ones, green/ or black and red.
The gear that was worn was in the same condition as an identical gear that I had, and same problem. Large gear was perfect but small gear was worn exactly like yours
Did you replace the gear? Quite expensive but your problem will soon come back if you don't. I found a gear for mine with the small gear exactly like mine and perfect but the large gear was smaller in diameter. Sooo I sawed the small gear of the gear and welded it on the bigger that came off the blower. Worked perfectly. But that gear certainly had to be changed

Hi, as shown in the video the issue that caused the jumping chain is the cog axle being bent and worn. This is fixed and fixed the jumping chain even though the cog is worn the chain cannot jump if under the correct tension. This fix will get the owner through the remaining 2 months of winter and then it can be fixed by not only replacing the cog but dealing with the cause and that is cheap steel. I am sure he will make a new cog axle from a higher grade steel which will prevent such damage occurring again. Thanks and have a great day.

Hi AJ, sorry to say a long way from fishing season, I may if I am really lucky be able to get the pontoon out in May if the ice has all gone. Before that we have some work to do on my bigger boat so you will know we are getting closer when we roll it out the barn and start working on the engine.
