    I was smiling more than you and it's not even my tractor. It's always a special occasion when you bring home new equipment - especially a great find, a good deal, and something you've desired. What a useful tool it will be for you! I'm happy for you Simon.

    Howdy Simon- wow! When you panned around and showed the tractor and log trailer I felt a warm glow. It’s great that at our age we can still feel excitement like a child at Christmas. My friend, I am so happy for you to have a nice machine like that. There is no doubt you will have everything working like new in record time. I was excited just to get some forks for the front of my old tractor to make for much less physical labor around the sawmill. That trailer is going to be a Godsend for you. Take care my friend. God bless

      Thank you Paul, to be honest I went out early Sunday morning just to make sure it was really in my yard. It has been a long time coming and you of all people know how hard it is working with tree's, logs everything wants to hurt you. I am so happy for you that you have forks, cannot even imagine how you were getting your logs on the sawmill without them. These small things means we can keep going doing what we enjoy. You have been a real friend and provided great support, thank you.

    Hey Simon.
    So the apparatus where the oil filler for the hydraulic oil should fill is a return hose for the log trailer hydraulic system. Since there is only one pressure hose feeding the valve on the trailer, it needs a return port to allow for constant flow from tractor to trailer.
    When the trailer is off the tractor, you need to make sure the lever to control that function is in neutral

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Dave, I did read that in the operators manual. At first I had no idea what all the levers were but now have them all marked up and understand what the different valves do and that it must be as you say when not in use. Thanks for that, really important info had I not read it.
      The book say it can cause damage to the system.

    • @celticrider06
      @celticrider06 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon.
      You are very fortunate you read that as we had customers with new Massey tractors didn’t heed our warning or didn’t read the attachment manual and destroyed their hydraulic pumps very quickly,and these were new tractors.
      No warranty for not following instructions for these folks.
      You have a very good set up and with a little TLC, it will serve you well for a long time.

    Can you take it in and out of 4 wheel drive ? The added the returnline. From trailer to fill pipe they had to cap off oil dipstick. Cuse when useing trailer it would blow the dip stick out. Pull that dipstick cap off see if. Fill stick still in under cap ?? I have seen that done b4. Just fun enough RPM to lift the logs. As we know there is alot of pressure. In hydraulics. You got yourself one hell of a nice old work horse. Just like we are. Hell my tires have a bit of dry rot to 😁 enjoy that ride. Sound of that eng is music

    Hi Simon... what a bargain.. you find a tractor and a forest trailer that you really need, and we get a video lasting for more than an hour👍 Those 2254s are damn good machines.. they'll last a lifetime with some TLC. I know of a similar tractor about 30 km South of us, a 1979ish model, and it has passed 15k hours by a lot and is still going strong. I don't know what you've paid, bartered or traded for that machine, and I don't care either, but that is a terrific find, and I'm sure it will serve you well.. just think about it.. getting timber and firewood home at all 4 seasons if necessary without braking your body apart👌👌All the best buddy🙂

Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm, it is going to make such a difference to my seasons and hopefully no more laying on my back for days on end. Have a great day I really appreciate you.

Ticking time bomb I can do without if I can find a way then I will replace them. You will be seeing it working real soon I have to get those trees into the yard yesterday. You know how it is this time of year. Have a great day I appreciate ya.

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dave, Thanks. It has tubes in the rear, I have been through it all with the back loader trying to find ways to make the old tires last longer but the reality is they are 44 years old and are ready to let me down. Can you imagine a blow out on the main road and then how much it would cost or even roll into the snow ditch. It has to be done. Minor in the overall scheme of things I think.

    The rear tyres can last many years if you don't mind estethics. It's the cord that holds it together and that is probably intact.
    The 500/2200/2250 series is a bastard of a tractor with not much Volvo in it, just the hood and the cab. Engine is Perkins, rear end is IH and 4WD is japanese I believe.

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, I know the tires on my backloader were 42 years old before I replaced them and the only reason I replaced them was because the cords had broken through on the inside and were puncturing the tubes. I had to removes the tires by myself with bars at -25C and I was not doing that anymore. So my reason for replacing the ones on this tractor is I have some experience of what is happening on the inside because I don't care what they look like I just do not want to be changing anymore tractor tires. Thanks for the info on how this tractor in made up. Now having had some experience with early Volvo's I am not surprised. The only Volvo part on My LM225 is the badge!

    So from the farm aspect of things yes every time you undo those hoses you will have oil coming out wipe it clean and invest into some plugs male and female for your connections to protect them from being dirty, and not to be the Debbie Downer of things on a couple of those hoses when you start adding pressure gravel analog you may wind up breaking some of them which I'm sure you know this but I had to say it anyway. Part 2 so that one single line that dumps back into the tank that was put there for the purpose of the oil going back into the reservoir we had to convert one of our pieces of equipment to do that as well, and yes the wheel seal is probably leaking hence why you have oil coming out. Number three😂😂😂😂 I'm glad the dog is enjoying the ball I'm sitting here watching and I hear squeak it brought an instant smile to my face and I didn't feel what he was playing with😅😅 and then I seen the green and blue. Number four when you take those caps off the trailers axle I can only suggest for you to drill a hole and put a grease cert in so that you can make sure they're greased and as far as that one being loose you might be able to tighten up the king nut on it. Number 5 look at you smiling with a closed cab and now you've got some heat😅😅 sure is nice isn't it now you just need to hook up a radio in a speaker in there👊👍huge and great score you got and i know it will serve you well .?? Tho 🤔 are the rims the same and same size as the loader 🤔🤔 , I know it might be pain-in-the-ass switching them out if they fit but you have a peace of mind going into the woods and not puncturing a hole through one of the cracks in the tires I'm sure you might be able to agree on that.. i look forward to seeing the chains and bucket

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Heith, got all of that, have caps in the cab and yes I know those hoses could blow but it looks to be only the outer rubber so far the steel is wire is still good to the eyesight! I was hoping the king nuts would take up the slack but until I get the caps off who knows. The loader is huge compared so could not swap the tires out even if I wanted too.
      Just leaving for town so will catch you later, Thanks Buddy.

    Here's me thinking... your negotiating skills are the envy of many - I'm sure there are many folk who have learned from you and prospered! I'm rather chuffed that your back now has help!
    One question... how will the rig fair in winter? Will you have to run in paths too, even widen some areas to get in?

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, but here's my thinking because it cannot go where the snowmobile and I go in the deep snow. With this I can move more with ease, lift more and maybe I don't need to cut in the winter anymore. I can in the winter because it is the best time for single season drying and all I have to get there is the snowmobile. But If I had a 4WD tractor and forest trailer I can cut so much more and move more in less time and effort so could stack more and get 2 winters ahead. If I can do that then I can cut any time and collect when it suits the tractor and stack in the yard, cut and split when it suits me know I have 1 winter in hand allowing more drying time for tree cut in either Autumn or Spring. If I want to cut in winter I can and just collect in spring. It has never been about the cutting always the lifting and moving. I have to work so many weeks moving because I can only get a few logs at a time on the sled with days between to rest on the damaged discs. All I know for sure is my days of manually handling the logs are numbered and further surgery is imminent unless I stop. If I stop I am back to nothing so in order to pay the electric and diesel bills I need a forest trailer and crane. I would have liked to continue how I was, it was easy and simple but restrictive and to much for my already broken body. It is also good to bring back the old stuff, better than leaving rotting right. You always ask such good questions AJ, Thanks you and have a great week. The beaches must be warming nicely.

    • @vossierebel
      @vossierebel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arctic-rebel Great answer. I thought that anytime working could be on the cards and honestly, the more you have mechanical help, the better! It will be great that you can now fit the cutting schedule in with your other activities and stress less about your stock for the essential winter warming!
      Yes... we love watching you fix the old stuff... because, Simon always wins!! That is a given! Maybe you should get patrion... I will help with the tire fund!
      Believe it or not... I prefer detecting in winter - especially after the storms! Too many inquisitive snoopers on the beaches in summer! However, it is my fix so I need to stay at it!! The last outing (I must still edit) wasn't so good... but, everyday out and upright is a winner!!
      Let that rig make your life a whole lot easier... and buy you loads of time for other stuff... like fishing and playing with Kasper!! 😉😁
