They only needed Congress to approve more money. They will need Congress to approve more money much more often in the coming years, as most of Florida will be flooded regularly, and hurricanes get stronger.
Your lucky to get pennies on the dollar from FEMA and when it’s all said and done they will get less then what’s been offered .. if they refuse it then the home will be taken by the county or state for zero $ via Imamate domain since that’s part of the plan of Florida corridor for a connected smart city on the east coast not including the bay areas smart city

Such bs. Go by records for fair value. No I found some private assessor to raise it 157K. Meanwhile the house flooded 4 times in seven years. That alone means 4 floods' repairs combined is probably more than 157K they want. Buy she doesn't pay 157K, FEMA and taxpayers (ME) foot the bill. Would have been cheaper to raise the house after the 1st flood rather than 3 more and you're in the position you are anyway. But it's great for construction & then politicians like DeSaster who get paid enormous campaign contributions (which they keep after they retire).
The problem is that you would think that in Florida they should build house with the ground floor 5 feet above the street height, this would help a lot of these issue… build on a hill in Florida would avoid these problems
The maximum coverage for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) depends on the type of property being insured: Residential buildings: Single-family homes can be insured up to $250,000 for the building, and $100,000 for contents. Residential condominiums can be insured up to $250,000 per unit for the building, and $100,000 for contents. ============ The maximum she can get is $250,000 for the house and $100,000 for the contents under the government flood program. My family moved to Florida in 1978 and bought a 2bd 2 bath CBS house, on a direct Gulf access lot, with less than an hours trip to the Gulf of Mexico in about any boat a person could want. Yet another reason why I would never move to Florida. Love to visit but that's it.
I was conservative on my insurance rate estimates to begin with and now they just want to back out?
You made your choices lady!
Living in a river flood zone has some risk. I would think that apparent after 4 rebuilds.
Maybe that woman who want 400 thousand for a house that is flooded and destroyed. Maybe she should sell it privately.
Our tax dollars to help people in a known Flood area - not with our Tax Dollars.
Your risk
Your problem
In 2016 this house was purchased for $99.000.00 so by paying on it for less than ten years you hope you have a return of MORE THAN 250% ? just in case no one mentioned you may be greedy, you just might be part of the reason why many, many people are living in their cars and in tents because they cannot afford these home prices. By the way, YOU chose to live on the flooding issues with a slab on grade home Tomoka River bank, did you not ever think you MIGHT have flooding with a non-elevated slab on grade, non-elevated ...structure? You are being offered a far better way out of a poor choice and you cannot even be thankful. It is hilarious that you asked to sale $314,900.00 in 2020 and the price for the 1971 Slab on grade was so far overpriced you could not sell it during the peak of the selling frenzy. After the first time you looked at the property and seen a RIVER is on you back yard, you did not even think or imagine that a flood might be possible? Now you want my Federal taxes to enrich your poor decision making life? How about. no. $404,00.00 for that property is very, very far away from reality and your "PRIVATE ASSESMENT" assessor should have performed a legal assessment and hopefully that will be investigated with the same fervor. Clearly trying to get out of a consequences on the back of those like me who live in a mobile home trailer. That reporter is trying to facilitate a scam..fraud.
There is no scam. What’s going on with this reporter from FOX?
Independent appraisals are based off of past sales. However, with two recent hurricanes that's going to affect the value and as a federal taxpayer, I don't want to pay what I would have paid months before two massive hurricanes when it's flooded multiple times before
....and comps.
the red tape involved with just trying to repair your home after a hurricane is getting worse and worse. many of us here in Louisiana are still waiting on decisions from FEMA and dealing with more red tape from the RESTORE LOUISIANA program. many people like myself and families similar to us are so frustrated with their bureaucratic crap it is almost to the point of just letting it go and living in the houses that are falling apart around us.
Wow I thought FEMA said they were out of money. After FEMA buys a property, what happens to it then? To think the high appraisal value is accurate after being a flood magnate 4x seems very unrealistic thinking by the owners.
FEMA should do one buyout.
After that, you’re on your own
These endless rebuilds are ridiculous
Don’t build on barrier island and don’t build in flood planes
You made the mistake rebuilding 4 times in a FLOOD HOUSE. Gosh.
Over building/adding subdivisions and not putting doing infrastructure/drainage is the biggest problem….the counties just want more tax dollars on developed land….flooding in older neighborhoods is happening here in Gainesville Florida for the same reason! Developers should have to pay an impact fee for the new infrastructure and the county needs to be audited to be sure that the funds go for infrastructure!! Just my thoughts🙏🏻❤️🇺🇸🙏🏻
Why do we have to wait ... Call Congress BACK from their vacation to FUND FEMA in Florida!!!
Just build a 36” block wall around your lot, cheap and works great
There isn’t a $150K discrepancy. They are just looking to fleece the federal treasury
Try to sell it for 400,000...good luck with that...not worth that dry.
With all the new construction going on there are many areas flooding now that have never flooded before.
I think I would have left it the first time 😢😢😢
Nothing is going to change
More flooding
The problem is that you would think that in Florida they should build house with the ground floor 5 feet above the street height, this would help a lot of these issue… build on a hill in Florida would avoid these problems
This is why mortgage companies have you pay for assessor but they pick the person! Government isn’t paying your stock market assessment.
The maximum coverage for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) depends on the type of property being insured:
Residential buildings: Single-family homes can be insured up to $250,000 for the building, and $100,000 for contents. Residential condominiums can be insured up to $250,000 per unit for the building, and $100,000 for contents.
============
The maximum she can get is $250,000 for the house and $100,000 for the contents under the government flood program. This report does everyone a disservice by not pointing that out.
========
The only way you get more if you have a private (Not Government) policy on top of the government policy.
===========
Even, if you have a million dollar house with the government program $250,000 is the most you can get period.
LMFAO, 4-times???????? and now you expect the Government to bail you out???
Why in God's name is the Government buying people's house's? You bought it, your problem, not the taxpayers problem. Honestly
When were the houses built. Why would FEMA pay for a house?
Taxpayers have an interest in moving people out of areas of constant flooding so that they don't continue to cost us year after year.
Having lived on a barrier island for 30 years, I know the secret to living in a flood prone hurricane zone. You build your house on stilts!
Can't learn can you- build SOMEWHERE HIGHER!
My family moved to Florida in 1978 and bought a 2bd 2 bath CBS house, on a direct Gulf access lot, with less than an hours trip to the Gulf of Mexico in about any boat a person could want. The price $128,000. That house now would have a market price over a million now. None of it makes any sense at all to me. I couldn’t probably qualify for it at its’ 76 price with all the hits I’ve taken in my life. What sorta house could you buy in ‘76 for a million?
When are people going to learn that Florida is an unlivable state for the average person? Between hurricanes, insurance and general cost of living, it’s unlivable. I left this past June 30th after 27 years. You didn’t have to be Nostradamus to see this coming.
I have a buck and a quarter.
Why didn’t they raise the house up after the first flood?
Time to leave Florida.
Not to sound cold hearted, but #1 rule when buying real estate is location location location. I’m sure when they bought the property they liked that it was close to a river. Not anymore.
I'd love to see what a home with "flood damage from multiple floods, area has bad flooding every year and a half. Close to a river. Hurricanes always hit here" in the listing really goes for on the open market and what's truly a fair value for a property like that in a location like that.
She needs to take that $250k and run before the reality of that market starts setting in and you really see what homes will go for on the market.
Taxpayers should not have to keep paying for someone who chooses to live near the water. My insurance just hot cancelled, and I have never filed a claim. I am sick of paying for people who choose to live near the water.
