    Nice Galah, mine turns 34 in September around the same time I turn 36. He spends half his day upside down, the rest picking on the neighbourhood cats! Almost all photos of me as a child had my mate George on my shoulders or the handle bars. My mates can't believe it's George until he yells my name like my father used to, calling me home for tea from 2 miles away...good times.

    Nice. Classic reward training. I got 'lucky' with my cockatoo, who *loves* to flip / spin upside down and hang down like a bat, usually with such enthusiasm that I'm worried he'll rip the skin off my fingers as he spins over.

    I taught my eclectus to just hang there when I do this. He absolutely hates it and if I leave him there for too long, he'll start kind of biting me for it. He does enjoy being swung gently though, lol. My sun conure was also taught this trick but again, I do all of the work. However, she lets go with one foot to make the trick her own :)

    Since the cue for the first bird is a tail touch, is there still room to teach it another trick, where in a snap leads to a bat impersonation, and you don't have to do anything?

    Hey, Jamie! I have a problem. I have a beautiful Parakeet but I can't seem to get her used to me! We were starting to get along great until my sisters friend needed to borrow my room for a month. Now she's shy of me again. I've been told to hold her a lot, but it's so difficult to get her out of the cage. Even when I do, as soon as she can she flies away and starts squawking when I try pick her up again and I'm afraid she'll get hurt if I continue this charade. What should I do?

    hey! If I'm getting this right, this means that once you teach the trick one way, the bird will be unlikely to learn the trick in another way? You showed three birds, each one making more progress than the next. This leads me to believe that you had tried to correct the first and second bird's technique and you had also learned to teach the trick better.
    What's your take on all of this?

    I put 13 weeks old baby goffin cockatoo under deposit. Since he is weaning later than he should be, the owner of the store handfeeds him for breakfast and tries to get him eating by himself afternoon. Whenever I visit him afternoon he bites me pretty hard. Sometimes he is super sweet,but most of time he always tries to bite someone til bleeding. Is this behavior normal for baby birds? Or that is his own personality that can not be fully controlled by training. Someone please help me. Thank you.

    My bird hates my dad what should I do?

    • @BitVyper
      @BitVyper 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would help if you were a bit more specifc; does your bird just avoid your dad? Does it behave aggressively toward him? What exactly does your bird do when your dad comes into the room? What about when he approaches it? What kind of bird? I'll assume some sort of parrot, at any rate.
      If it just avoids him, I would suggest you start by having your dad just completely ignore him for a few days or more depending on what your situation is like. When you want to try interaction, have him refrain from using his hands; our hands can be very threatening to a bird, but it's so natural for us to reach out and grab everything that we don't think about it. He can talk, or they eat together, or he can just hang out around the bird or whatever, but hold off on the hands. When I introduce children to birds, I'll often make them hold their hands behind their backs at first, so they get over the initial excitement without scaring the bird. When you want to start getting him use to your dad's hands, getting the bird to step up is a good start. Make sure his hand comes from under the bird instead of above.
      This is all only if it's just a matter of your bird being unwilling to interact with your dad though. Playing "hard to get" usually works best in these cases. If your problems are different or more severe, please specify them, along with the type of bird.

    It's a blue throated macaw. I don't know how much they are exactly, but they are pretty expensive - even if purchased from captive breeding programs - because they are endangered in the wild.
