Jeep JL/JT Freedom Top Removal and How to Store Them in the Bag

  • In this video, Mrs ShockerRacing teaches you how to properly remove the Freedom Tops on a Jeep JL and how to place them in the storage bag. We found the process to be a little awkward the first few times we removed them and thought it would be helpful to share a few tips we figured out on the MojitoJeep. This process for removal is the same for Jeep Gladiator JT

    This is still the best video I've ever seen on how to do this. Actually, it's the only video I've seen because I didn't need to watch another one! I just now watched it again, because it's been a while since we've had warm enough weather to take off the top--until today!

    • @shockerracing
      @shockerracing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rick Mansfield glad it helped and I’m jealous that you are somewhere warm enough to strip it down!

      I'm in Louisiana, but believe it or not, it's been too cold here in the northern part of the state to remove the freedom panels. By the end of the month, I'll switch back to the soft top until Fall. I've got a Mojito jeep like yours by the way. And hopefully, after it gets warmer where you are, we'll see more of your Gladiator in upcoming videos.

    This is by far one of the best, if not the best video out there. The owners manual is garbage and unclear how to store in bag. This answered all and any questions you might have. Thank you!

    Love your videos! Thanks for the tip in laying down. I couldn't figure out and felt so dumb. BTW when having upright strapped to the rear headrests, there is a clip on the bottom to strap to one of the storage tie-downs in the rear of the Jeep so the bottom of the bag doesn't slide around.

    I got to try out a Broncos 4 door hardtop, SOOOOOO much easier than our JL'S. And it actually is 1 person capable you dont havr to buy a lift or find someone else all though they do tell you not to 1 person it. The back cargo cover is about 45 pounds and about 4 feet long so you can easily just climb in the back grab each side and slide out

    Not sure if this was mentioned but the 45° angle is for the angle on the top. When you attach the bag to the back seat (standing up) the 45° angle should be on the right side bottom.

    Agreed, they are all pretty good, but this is the A#1 best because of the small details. Like no need to work bent over with your storage bag laying in the dirt, in it in the jeep. And a very to flow to the clearly explained details.

  • @Terry-7
    @Terry-7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The instructions also say to use the little clip on the corner of the bag to secure it to the D ring on the floor closest to the rear seat so that the bottom of the bag doesn't slide out during acceleration when the bag is in the upright position. I thinks thats important also if you don't want them to get scratched.

      Taking off the new freedom panels are a lot easier now. But I do remember spending about an hour looking at the ‘not so easy’ “Directions” lol. It would be great if Jeeps salesperson took the 7 minutes it actually takes from start to finish & showed the new owners.
      After that looking at the included instructions would make better sense.
      Or they could include your link 😉 and make it super easy.

    First of all thank you for posting this demo on the Freedom Top Storage Bag. Just picked up my new JL last week and took the panels off for the first time. But as I was putting them in the storage bag, I noticed the top portion of the bag was a little difficult to zip close. Have you run into this issue. I don't know. Perhaps I'm not doing something correctly. I do like your method better of laying the bag flat in the back to get the panels in. Seems much easier than trying to stand it up.

    • @shockerracing
      @shockerracing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeff Davis Vlogs it’s sometimes a little tight, we just adjust them and push the tops in a little further. Also, make sure your latches are latched before putting the tops in the bag.

    Do you find that laying them down is an extremely tight fit. Seems like these will rub against the tailgate and I tried with them standing up but didn’t like the lack or rear vision. Could do with 1/2” more depth in the rear. Also looking to see it there is a shelf I can put over this so can still use the trunk.

    I have the 2021 4 door. With my tops stored in the bag exactly like the video, the bag is too long for the tailgate to close....... i’m wondering if they changed the foam block inside the bag and made it thicker?

    • @JD-sy4up
      @JD-sy4up 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just answered my own question... I have a 4xe..... and there is a battery ledge behind the seat that takes up a few inches. I may try a different brand of storage bag that does now have the foam block.

      @shockerracing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve Bowles we absolutely love it! The only issue we have had was that both front fenders had weird waves/dimples in them. The dealer approved the repair as a factory defect but they tried to fill them and repaint them and they turned out worse. We are dropping it off on Thursday for them to completely replace and repaint both front fenders.

    Sadly you can’t lie it flat in the Wrangler 4xe, but the basic loading technique works great. You just have to strap the case up vertically (which blocks the rear view mirror). Not the end of the world.

    • @shockerracing
      @shockerracing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why doesn’t it fit flat in a 4xE?

    • @Slaphitter
      @Slaphitter ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shockerracing The battery under the rear seat creates a shelf - the 4xe cargo area doesn’t fold flat like the gas models. That little shelf under the seat back juts into the cargo area by a few inches. When you lie the bag flat, it sticks out too far and you can’t close the tailgate.
