    "Worth it if you can drive it for the whole weekend." I bought my first Jeep when I was 18. I would go through all of that for a 20 minute break in the rain to cruise the strip, come back put it all back on, and maybe do it again later. I haven't had a Jeep for 20 years. Going to buy a new one this fall. I'm sure 40 year old me will only go through all that for a weekend also.

    I had a similar lift in my old house which had 12' garage ceilings. I cut the rod at the hook end, then got some 1/2" round metal stock and a bushing to slide the pieces together. I used JB Weld to glue it up. The reason I cut it at the hook end is I thought if it wasn't perfectly straight, it would be less likely to wobble near the gearbox rather than the drill end. Not sure if that's right, but it seemed logical. Anyway, after several years of use, it worked perfectly! Thank you for the video, excellent information!

    Ive got a sting grey soft top. Once I took my doors off the first time the only bolt I ever put back in was the single door hinge bolt on the inside of the door. The outside ones stay in the back and I never plugged the doors back in. Make going nakes with the jeep take less than 5 minutes. Love the setup and thought about getting mojito but my wife vetoed that idea.

    Great video, love it and live how you explained everything and showed how to remove the top and doors. A lot of Jeep owners don’t do what you did and leaves a lot of public wondering if they should buy a Jeep or not.
    The only thing I would change in your videos is buying better quality tools such as Dewalt, Milwaukee or Matco when it comes to Electric Hand tools and cordless. The motors are built better, yes they are more expensive but they last and you have a damn Porsche sitting in your driveway, LOL. With that said, why not make your cab lift fully motorized and wired into the wall by your Lift?
    You are blessed to have such a nice big and tall shop with car lift.... wanna be a mechanic and have a cool shop, but better quality tools that will last and not break like mechanics do. Promoting crap tools makes life difficult for the fully commissioned auto technician because other good companies start cutting corners. One of the reasons why I don’t support China by buying crap from Walmart.
    And don’t think I’m below anyone just because I turn wrenches. I promise you I make nearly $200,000 consistently per year for the last 7 years. I’m more a realistic person, don’t need anymore money than that. I hate shopping therefor I research what parts and what tools are the best so I never have issues. Something to think about.
    This message is not directed towards any form of negativity, more like positive direct criticism. Great video, great home and shop, just curdles my skin and blood when I see people supporting crap Chinese and Taiwanese brands instead of Snap-On, Craftsman USA, Matco, Mac Tools, Dewalt USA, Milwaukee

    The JKU has 2 torx bolts on the windshield frame. Attach the (roof off) mirror brackets there. The mirrors come with thumb screws. I threw those away and just got bolts, you can get them tighter. Then when positioned correctly, drill a small hole thru the bracket down thru the aluminum block that grips the mirror arm tube. All the way thru. Then you drop a long cotter pin in this hole, that keeps the mirror from pivoting back as the wind pushes on them.

    As a fellow Illinoisan watching your video and looking at buying a Jeep I'm curious what do you do when a cop pulls you over for not having mirrors? You know it's only a matter of time before some Barney Fife grabs you for that one.

    • @shockerracing
      @shockerracing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Snowdogkh we drove around quite a bit last year without mirrors and never had a problem, but this year we got Tube Doors and mirrors from Motor City Aftermarket.

      If you have a rearview mirror anywhere on the vehicle... You're legal. Side mounted mirrors are not required in Illinois...
      Illinois Vehicle Code - 625 ILCS 5, Section 12-502
      Every motor vehicle, operated singly or when towing another vehicle, shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of such motor vehicle.
      "A" mirror is all you need... The one on the windshield keeps you perfectly legal.

    Dude, I just made an investment into the Top Lift Pro…. So much better than any cable system (but definitely costs more😢)unfortunately I just had rotator cuff surgery and I’m no longer able to lift the top myself… once I modify the unit to fit my TJ “The unit is mainly designed for the 07 & up” I had the top off and stored in less than 12 minutes “six bolts, wire harness and two latches”…. Plus you can also buy the bare pin set for the doors so that way you can always slide them off or on whenever you need to “and no, nobody’s gonna be able to take your doors when they’re on with the set unless you don’t lock your doors😆” and use straps for your hinge

    • @shockerracing
      @shockerracing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top lift pro is nice, but I don’t want that thing taking up the space in my garage. I like having mine up in the air.

    • @Bwatt5000
      @Bwatt5000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      AK83MUSTI how? It lifts up out of the hole. There’s a pin that sits down into the bracket, welded to the door. A friend of mine doesn’t even put the bottom bolts in anymore. When the the doors are closed and locked, you’re not getting in regardless as it’s impossible to lift up and out.

    • @MrSoup6029
      @MrSoup6029 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      once i removed those bolts they disappeared. I have never seen them again. Absolutely not necessary to keep the door on. The only thing that they can possibly do is keep someone from stealing your doors, but if the door is closed and locked they cannot do that.

    That door check strap is there so the door can't open enough to damage itself, AND to keep the door open by itself. To save the time to remove 1 extra bolt I don't think it's worth removing all your door checks.

    Nice video but not very realistic. Most of us don't have a 3 car garage with room for a host and door hangers, which prob adds up to about $500 in extras. So I will give you the poor man's version, 2016 JK with half doors, I can unzip the 3 windows and remove the top half of the doors in 5 minutes. Cost $0. Then I still have the Tip of not folded back. Safari Style!

    • @shockerracing

      You can also store those doors in a big enough shed too if you want. Non-issue.
