  • How to import samples from the SD card into the TR-8s. If this is the first time you are using the SD card in the TR-8s, be sure to format it on the TR-8s. You can find that option under utilities, second to the last option. I can not guarantee it will work properly if you skip this step. Thanks for watching and hit like if you found this useful. Great video! Any suggestions of file naming? Like if I make a folder called CR-78 or LinnDrum with associated samples, should they all use a similar prefix or other common naming convention to help the import and general organizing after import?

    • @UnitE808
      @UnitE808  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That would definitely help keep them organized. I generally do just as you described. I also only import what I am going to use in the kit I am building, so I dont have to rummage through a bunch of samples on the machine and fill it up with stuff I'm not using.

    • @paul-78

      Sound on Sound says "There’s no file structure, all samples appear in a single list, but they are ordered by categories, which can be the standard types (BD, SD, etc.) or custom tags. If you folderise samples correctly on your SD card they can be imported in one go and automatically assigned to categories"
      I think in practise you must prefix "BD, SD...etc" to the file name

    • @UnitE808
      @UnitE808  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have to manually trigger the sample since 30 seconds is longer than 8 measures. If you sequence the sample into the pattern, it will re-trigger once the pattern loops around.

    Is There a limit per folder / Kit? I'm prepping a folder to upload to the TR8S. By the looks of it, you can load a folder at a time, but you didn't specify whether you can upload a user snare or kick from a different user folder you had setup. For example, is it for you to select a different sample from the trap kit folder you had in there. It looks like the Roland only loads 1 folder at a time. Please elaborate.

    • @UnitE808
      @UnitE808  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ir doesnt matter. The folders are only for you reference. You're not locked into using a specific folder for a specific kit. You are free to choose which sample you want to use.

    • @UnitE808
      @UnitE808  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a maximum of 256 files per folder. You can create folders inside of the Sample folder on the SD card, but not sub folders of those.
      Once you have loaded samples onto your sd card, you have the choice to load them onto the TR-8S either by folder or by individual sample. Once they are on the TR-8S, it doesn't matter where you want to use them, they are just individual samples there.

      And what if I like to use sound-patches/samples from my own hardware-based synthesizers,-how can I sample and upload those sounds/samples into my computer? And then drag-and-drop those samples into the TR-8S’s “SAMPLE” folder?

    • @UnitE808
      @UnitE808  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      George Galamb you would have to run your hardware synth into your DAW and record the sample there. Save it to a folder and then follow my video on how to get it from the computer folder to the tr-8s. Pulling samples of a hardware synth into the computer is another subject and would be best to have its own tutorial. • @UnitE808
      @UnitE808  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kroomenproductions4757 why would you do that? It is completely unnecessary to load 32gb of samples at once. You can preview samples from the card, saving room on the machine. Just import what you are going to use in the kit you are building. Importing a ton of samples requires you to scroll through them all individually to find what you want. On the card, they can be organized into folders. Also, if you fill the machine and then want to add more, you have to go through the painful process of deleting files from the 8S. It doenst tell you which files are being used, so you could delete ones thatcare used in your kits.
      It has 500mb of storage. It is made for 1 shot drum hits or melodic stabs. The info is out there in groups and forums. Research your gear before purchasing, don't just go off of advertising. They can't say exactly how many samples it holds because bit rate and sample rate and sample length are all factors in how much space a sample takes up. Their manual states you can have approx. 300 seconds of stereo samples, 600 mono. That number is based off of 16 bit 44k samples.

      The sd card is not where the samples are imported to. You have 300 seconds of stereo samples at 44.1 khz, 16 bit. As the quality of your samples goes up, the amount of space goes down.
      You can import folders, but I think you are importing too many files. Be selective with your importing. You can hold all the samples on the sd card and preview them before importing. There is no reason to import a whole bunch of samples at one time. You are not going to use them all immediately.

      @@UnitE808 I didn't think it was under kit. I believe it's under sample.

      @@jakeallen715 samples make up a kit. Did you just import the snares, or have you assigned them to channels in a kit?

      @@UnitE808 I imported both kicks and snares, but they all sound like heavily distorted snares. The kicks don't sound like kicks. And I tried assigning them to a few channels. My break core samples sound fine. I even paid for this sample pack

      I wanted to be clear in my instruction and it was 1:30 am. I work all day and then take care of my family, then I get to take time for myself to share this info.
      Thank you for the candid criticism. You will notice that my later videos get quicker.
      Enjoy your day!

    So you can’t separate imported sounds by type?? That’s weak

    • @UnitE808

      You can assign them to a category, if you want to. That's not what this was about though.

      Thank you! It was always late at night in those first videos, after a day of work and a family to raise. Just doing my best!
