I don't really have a complaint about the host or the show, I think it's awesome.
My only complaint is the people who bicker about the origin, like it originated in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore etc. We are a region with a shared history and heritage. Modern politics and western colonialism separated us into different countries (and I'm not complaining), but we should at least be able to come together and celebrate our delicious food originating from our ancestors who view us as people of the same region.

There are some things I agree to disagree because history is what the writers want to present. But what I agree that these episodes are just brilliant and intriguing. Well done to your team. Next, Ramly burger...

Honestly, each country develop their own version though we all call them by the same name. Based on the video, the Malaysian used flower crabs instead of mud crab for chilli crab. For Nasi lemah, Malaysian one used more Malay dishes like Renang. Sg one more processed food. BKT are quite different. SG version uses Only pork ribs and clear soup. MY is herbal version and uses the parts whole pig to cook. Best way is to call them SG Nasi lemah MY Nasi lemah. Don't need to fight!

BKT from both nations has evolved to be totally different dishes from each other. Chilli crab too. Maybe not nasi lemak.
I care more about who does their version better(IMO of course) rather then where it comes from as at the end of the day, they have evolved so far along that they have became 2 separate dishes.

The most common misconception is how Hawker Food is supposed to be cheap food. This has never been the case historically. Hawker food was always an occasional treat for the working-class in the 60s and the 70s. At that time, most families cooked at home, occasionally indulging in hawker food. It was only in the 80s, where we had a larger population with greater spending power, that hawker food seemed in comparison to be cheaper. Dining was concentrated amongst hawker food due to the lack of full-service restaurants.

Chilli Crab: of course its Singapore
Bak Kut Teh: i think 1. Malaysia 2. Singapore, i never try, both looks delicious
Nasi Lemak: i think 1. Malaysia 2. Singapore
and yes i agree, just because a dish has originated, older and more heritage doesn't guarantee ~ it depends

    Origins
    Bak kut teh - Malaysia
    Chilli Crab - Singapore
    Nasi Lemak - Indonesia.
But where to find the best and tastiest one?
    Malaysia.

I think not all hawker food need to be cheap for more variety of choices, but there need to be affordable options for most residents to eat everyday. We used to be able to eat at home in the old days, but nowadays more families have all adults working full time to keep the rest alive. It is no longer practical for them to cook and eat at home.

How come Malaysia using Belado? Belado is a Balado in Indonesia and that word from Minang, West Sumatra

    • @danuaditya642
      @danuaditya642 ปีที่แล้ว +1

1:17 Ketam belado? Why are Malaysian half heartly Malayised the name -- it shall be "ketam berlada" in Malay (but I know that they don't understand it. Belado, or I rather said, balado in Indonesian and Minangkabau.
Well, may be they inherit their colonial master thinking. As always, they fight to each other, but they don't have any idea that that cuisine is Indonesian.
7:02 Aiyo, why do you stop at Malaysia when you understand that entire southeast Asia is one region? Come to Indonesia like your latest "cendol" episode to understand comprehensively.

A national food voucher situation will allow hawkers to raise prices for those that can afford it, and at the same time effectively target subsidies to people who can’t.
All this said and done, I don’t expect much to change, as this system will still exclude the 1 million foreign/domestic workers that are in Singapore as their labour rights and wages are shamefully low.

I laugh at the claim of Bak Kut Teh named after his grandpa. HAHAHA. My surname is Teh, I should claim it under my family history too........ridiculous lol
but back to food, most ppl including Singaporeans also prefer the Malaysian style bak kut teh cus of its stronger and exotic herbal taste. yum yum

nolah not saying go for bak kut teh if want to drink herbal soup but really majority of the Singaporeans around me prefer the malaysian style bkt. Not saying they hate or wont eat the SG style bkt but just prefer the malaysian style. Tried a few malaysian style bkt in sg but usually either some ingredients not good or it cost a bomb to add ingredients so i usually have my bkt fix when in malaysia with extra ingredients =)

Expectations of cheap hawker food both by consumers and the State is nothing new. What is new, however, is the doubling down that our current government is doing into our hopelessly flawed and unsustainable model of providing affordability of food. The new Social Enterprise Hawker Centres (SEHCs), who have explicit rules of price control, as well as unrealistic, market-pegged rents, will further entrench the role of hawker centres as Singapore’s informal soup kitchen, and at the expense of eating the hawkers that work there.

something we grown up eating to does not mean it can be originate from the birth site... The GCB (gor Char Bee) is always the best from where "We" originated from. Likewise penangite claims their WTM is the best, i think they are nuts, whilst Sg claims BKT is theirs .. well i just found out that BKT in their context is pepper pork soup hahaha... whilst nasi lemak has become economy rice in santan to chinese sellers (where I forbid and bias that NL should only be made by Malays ).....Well food for thought... afterall this is CNA so at the end Ming will still say it taste the best in SG whilst most non SG would differ.. err...btw the BKT story i doubt it as such. but lets limit to ur research and shall let it be... after all ones man meat is another;s poison. Good effort CNA!
