Thank you for staying true to the mission of the channel. i think if we had access to par sheets to see how the pay tables were configured then maybe we would be in a better position of at least trying to get an idea. For example if we knew what symbol was used to create the difference in payback percentage. If we knew whether the number of cherries was increased or the number of triple bars were changed then we could monitor the frequency that those come up...even if they dont produce wins. The fact that they come up more frequently could lend itself to a higher payback percentage, but alas without the par sheet we have no idea what to even try to look for. (are you still reading? lol) You've probably seen me talk buffalo gold before. I watch a ton of it on youtube and i have noticed that simply some machines spit out wilds more often. Most excellent demo - thank you Marc! If you’re feeling up to it sometime, perform the same exercise with the same denomination… i.e $1 set to lowest and highest percent payback.
It really doesn't matter because it's all about the credits wagered and credits won and the percentage of each. That would be the same regardless of what $ amount was assigned to it.
Thanks for this video! I was just thinking I would like to see a video with 2 exact machines next to each other, one with the highest payback percentage and one with the lowest, then play them at the same time for 100 spins and see if you can tell which has the higher payback percentage. For this video, I would love to see the payback percentage of both sessions combined and see how that influences the final results.
Absolutely! I think the algorithms vary around the RTP in a sine wave pattern with ups (hot) and downs (cold) of varying degrees. After playing slots for years you can get a sense for the feel of if it’s hot or cold after 25-50 spins. From there we make the decision to walk away or keep playing.
I think you sould of did this on one denomination instead of 5.00 ,1.00 ,.25 to see if that changes also Thank Marc's for your hard work in trying to make a believer in this strategy
I think for us gamblers that we should not just focus on the RTP of slot machines but also the volatility, the features of the game that gets to that payback percentage over the long term. Thanks again for another awesome video GambleSmart. 🙂👍
@@GambleSmart but…I wonder at what point it would make a short term difference. If it was possible I bet 10% would show some sort of noticeable short term difference.
Another question, does this same payback configuration exist for VGT bingo Class 2 machines? I'd love to learn more about how those are programmed to pay back.
Completely unrelated, but been on such a cold streak for the last 6-7 months finally broke it last night while trying to maximize Caesars 20x next day free play promotion in AC. Hit a 10K jackpot, and managed to accumulate 1K in free play for today. At 6 going to use it to try and hit their double your jackpot promo from 6 to 7. Anyhow during that cold streak enjoyed your videos and suggestions. Thanks!
Very interesting thank you so much for doing this. If it gets too mathematical its not as fun. Hey BTW during those hundreds of spins you did not get atleast 1 diamond diamond diamond jackpot?
Thanks for the highly informative video ! I do have a question - if it the RPT is not noticeable in the short run - why wouldn't all Casinos just initially have all machines set at the lowest pay %, what's the point of having different RTP for different denominations?
A smaller portion of a much bigger bet is still more profit for the casino. A 12% hold (88% RTP) on a three credit max quarter denom game is $0.75 * 0.12 = $0.09. On average, the casino makes $0.09 every time the game is played (at max bet). A 2% hold (98% RTP) on a one credit max $100 denom game is $100*0.02 = $2. The hold percentage has been slashed to nearly nothing, but the casino is making 21 times more profit per game played. One person playing a $100 machine for an hour is like someone playing a quarter machine all day.
@@4jp Thanks for the reply! But I more so wanted to understand why casinos wouldn't just set all the slots to the lowest RTP across all slots if it isn't noticeable. So from your example a casino could just set a $100 denom game at 88% same as a quarter game , and earn even more (or perhaps im just greedy!)
@@LSung000 People who do not feel like they are winning enough are not going to play. Losing $12/spin is going to be noticeable way faster than losing $0.09/spin. That higher hold could decrease coin in. Because profit is coin in times hold, that could decrease profit.
Makes sense. But isn't the whole point of this video to show that RTP is not noticeable to a player? For example the 2nd round of 100 spins where the two higher payable % had the highest hold vs the two lower pay% which actually has negative hold %
@@LSung000 It depends on how low RTP is. and how many games are played. Confidence interval is RTP plus/minus VI/sqrt(games played). The more games played, the less variability you expect and the closer to the theoretical RTP you would be.
Hey marc, thanks for doing this! From my experiences latey with my slot games, i have been staying with my bet budget and keeping thembet budget (like $3.00-$5.00) and if i win a bonus, i stay with my bet budget and go up a lirtle in denomination only on machines that do not require max bet. When i do this, my bonus hots on free games seems to be quite a bit better than the ones with lower denomination! But the main thing alwaya is not to play a bigger bet unless its one or two of it during your session.
For me this helps but it’s deciding what to play is so hard. I seem to always pick a dang high volatile game as it seems that’s all that’s avail in Las Vegas anymore
I've been listening on payback percentage. This video tells me that same thought process applies to the denom as well. Can you tell me if i'm right or wrong
Yes, as you saw in the video - even though the $5 bet had the highest payback % setting, it actually did worse than the $1 and $0.25 that were set lower. This tells you that in the short term, you should always stay at the bet level you are most comfortable with.
I would think a machine with a progressive would effect the payback too. Do you guys know it casinos do come across some machines that aren't making money even though it's set at a % rate to do so and pull them from the floor?
I think a lot of casinos outside of major areas have slots set much lower… 80%. I would have liked to see a greater range of tested percentages. Having said that, I realize 100 or 200 spins isn’t enough to learn much of anything from any slot machine. I still appreciate the content and hope to run into you guys at Winstar one of these days. I only make the five hour drive from western Texas a few times a year, but if schedules match up I will search for you and say hi. (I would really like to see you play in Bossier City once. Horseshoe and Margaritaville seem to be better ventilated.)
Hi Mark I have to ask I saw a youtuber say that playing a maxed out major dragon link style machine at $1000 isn't a good idea because of the RTP percentages? Is this true?
@@GambleSmart Thanks Mark, I didn't think it made a difference but I thought I would check. He said he wrote an article or book about it. Show results for a reasonable short term play session like 2000 spins (2hrs play session), and you’ll start to notice big differences. No one just does 1 or 200 spins
You still won't notice a bit difference, I just don't have the patience to do 2,000 spins for a video. I do have stats from my other games that have thousands of spins and there are not close for he theoretical setting yet.
The thing about payback %age is that it is quite important but not everything. Here in the UK it is a legal requirement to display the RTP (return to player) percentage. So it you see two identical machines at different casinos, one at 92% and one at 96% obviously it is wise to play on the 96% one as long as the stake required for that is the same. It may not reflect over 100 spins, or even 1000, but over the long term you'll be losing at half the rate so you'll effectively get double the "fun" per dollar/pound. If you have to play bigger to get the higher %age then that is a big mistake if you can't afford it. For example, in the UK there are £500 JP random machines in bookmakers and arcades whcih will often have two slightly different %ages depending on stake. You may get 92% RTP playing £2/spin and onyl 90% playing £1/spin. However, in this example, on average you will lose £10/100 spins playing £1 but £16/100 spins playing £2. You may get more action playing £2 but you will lose at a faster rate, assuming fair random machine.
You are correct, IF you knew ahead of time what the settings were. Here in the states, sadly, we do not know and thus people get all caught up in it... especially thinking that a rough session on a slot indicates a low payback % (which might not be true).
While Im sure Casino’s dont rig their machines (mainly due to not needing to), when people say “they cant” it makes me cringe because I know it is 100% possible for them to rig the machines. I as a layman can walk in with a device to do it myself. Yes ill get arrested right away but it proves it can easily be done. Hell, I (not literally me this time but a truly elite hacker) can hack the entire casino servers entirely from a remote location off site so them not being able to control machines within their own borders doesnt even make logical sense. If Casino’s needed to rig the slots at some point, they would and nobody would be able to tell or stop them because the gaming commission is like the FDA: A large organization shadow funded by the very companies they are supposed to be regulating. End mini rant. Love your videos and have used so many tips from here to add up my small wins and get comfortable walking away when Im in the profit. Thanks!!
People hack much larger and more impenetrable company servers all the time. It is not difficult for a nation state level hacker to simply rig a few slot machines to block payouts and override the rng by masking it from the server. The reason most hackers outside of the guys that got MGM dont hack at casinos is because there is no money there for doing that vs hacking various other servers at large data companies with more direct access to information that is more valuable than the actual money that could be taken. And these nation level hackers rarely if ever leave a single trace of anything they do. These are the same people that hacked foreign country servers across the globe without being there whatsoever and left no trace of their doing. The only reason we know who hacked into those foreign servers from here (America) is because we had a traitor run away and speak.
I know just the person I'm going to share this with. I honestly think that the numbers that are used in relation to gambling aren't as intuitive as people think they are and don't mean what people think they mean. I think odds, probability, and payout percentage tend to get conflated and misinterpreted. Not to mention the fact that numbers like payout percentage percentage are really just Regulatory compliance standards and aren't really beneficial to the player.
How about coming up with a different metric because payback % is not it. For example, I've heard Brantley say games like Pinball, Top Dollar will bonus (which should give a player a higher return) 1in 40-80 spins vs a Lock it Link type game (or the dreaded Aint worth it Ainsworth games) that might be 1 in 150 or higher. Too, there are games like 5 line Triple Stars that "hit" more frequently than a single line or Link game and some that hit frequently but either pays your bet back or pays way less than your bet back. Can we quantify potential results in the way players actually play the game? Or are we just stuck with low volatility/high volatility?
How would it be possible for a collection of 234 machines across 7 casinos to report a 43.06% “win rate” for an ENTIRE MONTH on a monthly report from a state gaming commission? It happened not too long ago and I’ve been wondering how it is possible. (RTP for the month was 57% instead of the usual 89%-94% of other months.)
I just focus on game. Don’t understand all that % stuff, rng and rtp, yall have always said focus on budget and machine. I trust yall after my handpays.
Players should definitely look for the highest RTP especially if they are regular weekly players. Let’s say a machine takes 100 million in a year if all those spins was at 98%RTP that 98 million in prizes paid back to customers that isn’t something any player should ignore. Obviously the house want you too because the lower RTP means less prizes paid back to players and bigger profits for the house.!!! You could have a crazy situation where a very popular machine set to just 10%RTP could pay out far more than a machine that doesn’t get many customers but set to 99%RTP.😳 The built in randomness is like a security feature and only when these machines are designed is there any chance of programming loopholes but if regulators find these cheats people would be going to jail.!!! They are great mathematical tools that makes alot of profits.
well, i can tell you the paybackrate over a short session. each and every time people sitting next to me are winning, and mostly very big for their bet, no exeption. this has been going on for over 12 years. a whole line of machines gets bonusses, i don't as the only one. and what does it ell you about the payoutrate if on a low limit machine where the average bet is well below 2,50 7,4 million has been put in and only 6,1 million has been payed out in total? they state the payoutrate is 92%. well, if you count money in versus mnoney out 7,4 million versus 6,1 million is nowhere near 92% ..... for my money they lie.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You put in the hard work so we don’t have to. All of your content makes playing much more enjoyable.
The house always has the advantage in the long run...correct?
Always
well, i can tell you the paybackrate over a short session.
each and every time people sitting next to me are winning, and mostly very big for their bet, no exeption.
this has been going on for over 12 years.
a whole line of machines gets bonusses, i don't as the only one.
and what does it ell you about the payoutrate if on a low limit machine where the average bet is well below 2,50 7,4 million has been put in and only 6,1 million has been payed out in total?
they state the payoutrate is 92%.
well, if you count money in versus mnoney out 7,4 million versus 6,1 million is nowhere near 92% .....
for my money they lie.
The. Longer you play the more you lose
0% pay back this year gg
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
