I had been looking at several sharpening system options and was undecided until I watched your excellent video. I bought the Ruixin Pro 3 and all the bits you described to upgrade it exactly as you showed. The N52 magnet is a perfect fit and amazingly strong. I also made leather and balsa strops which I probably would have spent a fortune buying without your inspiration. I have to say how grateful I am that you took the time to produce your tutorial and also how pleased I am with my finished, upgraded system. Thank you for a genuinely useful video. 👍
Best video on knife sharpeners on here. Not only because of the great modifications done clearly enough to follow, but because other people just whine and complain and don't even try to solve the problems. You found problems I would never have thought of until I stumbled into them, much better to sort them all out from the start. Brilliant, thanks :)
I believe you can. If it has approximately the same length and thickness to fit, you can use it. I don’t use them because imo the natural stones are better.
Wow ... I think You must be proud of this. I can tell that this is the most clever modified sharpener video among all the other videos I've seen. And it helped me a lot. You are very smart to use magnets under the steel plates to hold the knife. Instead of using the original grips made of steel plates. That shows that you care about the details. To prevent scratches from the scraper blade to the steel plate. It also makes it easier to use. Very impressive I adapt it according to the way you do everything. Well, let's just say it works very well. Thank you 🙏🏻
I ordered one of these a few days ago, and knowing it was about to arrive, I went looking for some info on assembly and use, and i'm glad I did, because nothing came with the sharpener. Thank you so much! I put on the waterproof tags on the stones (great idea), and will probably build a wooden base for it, too. This was incredibly helpful, and I appreciate it greatly. Thanks.
Awesome vid mate, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and when I received my kit, no instructions left me doing a half arsed job, You nailed it man. Thanks
This is brilliant. In a world where time = money, I think this video proves that spending more for a system which already has all of these upgrades built in is worth it :D
I don't know... the system itself cost me U$20, and then I used some extra money to buy some great quality stones. The system I would buy instead of this one that was really worth the upgrades was U$299. If you feel no difference spending U$300 instead of U$20 than you should go for it, but that's definately not my case lol. I don't know nowadays what systems are there to buy, I stopped looking after I finished this one.
Great ideas and tips. I have the same system, but I use this only for small folding and hunting knives. For longer kitchen knives, I use the traditional whetstones with free hand. It is a bit complicated to insert the stones, set the angles, use hex tools, etc. It is worth using this for expensive or coated blades. For cheap, everyday kitchen knives, it is better to use big water stones. If I accidentally scratch them, it is not a big issue.
Hai, I'm Jack from PL. Thans so much for the way you have showed how to use and upgrade this sharpener. I've got myself the same one and I'm gonna follow your steps. God bless you.
This is a very helpful video. Without it I would have had trouble making this sharpener work, and you made the job so easy to understand. I built the stand, ordered the magnets, bought the O-rings and a flange nut for the stand, and I just need the drill stop. Shopping for a better set of stones, and practicing on some knives I made from scratch.
Fantastic video! I have just received my magnet in the post today....that is the last piece of the puzzle and so tonight I start to sharpen those frustrating knives!!! Sounds like a fun Friday night I know! Thanks once again!
Gave it a go and I think I did ok! had to read up a little more about the "Burr" which now makes sense! 2 quick questions....do you dilute the dish washing liquid? and re the tape that you place down on the stand to protect the knife....would you consider gluing something down permanently? I guess it would need to be soft enough but water resistant? cheers JMM
I use soapy water, no too much soap. I wouldn't recommend you gluing something permanent because the paper ends up pretty damaged when dragging the knife left and right. I always replace it one or two times while sharpening. I recommend you buying at least a 3000, 6000 and 10000 to add to your collection. Making the strops with the compounds does help a whole lot more.
Many thanks maybe I need to try a different soap bottle! Oh and one thing with my board, I didn't cut out the front end so that you can sharpen scissors, so I have left my board quite large (and heavy so it's pretty stable) What I plan on doing though is drilling a hole that the black handle can fit into so that I can have both hands free when cleaning the stone and adding soap! I thought I would be able to post an image here but I'm sure you know what I mean......Oh funny story I sharpened a few knives, a couple better than others so I did the paper demonstration for my wife. She then said " I hope it can cut meat" I said shit what do you mean meat? Everyone on TH-cam only cut paper!!!
My Ruixen Pro arrived yesterday. Just finished using it a moment ago. 1st ever attempted at sharpening a knife. Blade was very dull but after going up to only 1500 it's really, really sharp. Took about 20 mins. Didn't really bother with angles etc but I'm delighted by the result. Will be more conscientious on next knives and will certainly be adopting some of your upgrades. Thanks for this clip. I bought the apparatus because of this clip to be honest
I bought them all on eBay, but Aliexpress is an alternative too. There were tons of sellers a few months ago, but nowadays there are just a few, you need to search a little bit as "natural sharpening stone" like these ads. www.ebay.com/itm/150x20x5mm-200-to-10000-Sharpening-Grindstone-Polishing-Stone-with-Base-/271911243878?var=570746700854&hash=item3f4f2c5066:m:mPDzizsgx-NxGOHFMl_C9Hw www.ebay.com/itm/10000-8000-Grit-Natural-Agate-Whetstone-Knife-Sharpening-Stone-Grindstone-Q0XB-/141874493490?var=441009003219&hash=item210860f832:m:mzet3iAL_vU-4d7avGjmcHQ
Best purchase I ever made on eBay. Got it yesterday, bolted it down and hacked away. Excellent product, nice vid too. Looking forward to learning proper techniques and knife sharpening vocabularies, I saw a product review of a beautiful Russian made sharpener last year. 400USD I think. So getting this 20AU product, I had no expectations. Deeply satisfied.
I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm th-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.
You just saved me 14 bucks because I was just about to order a digital angle protractor on Fleabay! Didn't even think of the phone app :-) Very helpful vid, thanks!
Good stuff - thanks so much. I was debating between the Apex and the Hapstone, but after watching you, I went with the Ruixin III. I agree - I always find it better to work with a piece of metal than plastic.
GREAT video on this-- thank you so much! I assembled mine by looking at photos and I had parts left over-- now I know what they're for AND how to use the thing to make my knives scary sharp! :-)
This is one of the best instructional videos I have seen. You could perhaps turn the handle 180 degrees, and have room to sharpen an axe on the other side if you had a bracket to hold the axe. Thank you!
Thank you for the mods, they do enhance this sharpener. It inspired me to purchase it. I bought it for the base and the pivot rod really. I used grommets instead of O'rings, so no need of the Drill stop. and I swapped the rods and use the short one for the pivot, therefore I get full extension on the stones. I use gatco and lansky "stones" with it ( haven't even opened the ones which came with it} Mostly though I use eze-lap diamond stones to do all the initial rough in bevelling.
Man thanks a lot for this movie, I bought one and now I will upgrade it just as you showed it .... Bravo and thank you ... LIKE UP FROM ME GREETINGS FOR YOU !!!
I got the Ruixin Pro for about 6 months ago for about $20 and found that I could now get all my knives not razor-sharp but pretty sharp which I had not been able to do in the past. The only drawback that I can see is that the stones wear out pretty fast... to alleviate the problem, I now only sharpen all my knives using down-strokes to prevent the chiselling effect of the knives cutting into the stones.
On another video a guy used an indelible marker to blacken the cutting face, it makes it much easier to see where you are grinding, i learned the same trick 30 plus years ago as an engineering apprentice, we used engineering blue to mark high spots when filing whilst trying to get a flat surface, but marker pen is better in my opinion, great video, i had totally forgotten how to put my sharpener together lol, not used it in ages :) ordered some of those magnets, and some cheap diamond stones from china/ebay for roughing out, what great ideas, the other mods will be done also, thank you for this video :)
Thank you! The black marker is useful when you want to find the angle of a knife instead of changing it's angle. My knifes are all 12, 15 and 20 degrees, so I use the angle meter to set that. But when I sharpen a friend's knife for example I use the marker to find the original angle, you mark the bevel with the pen and you stroke once with a 800 grit stone for example. If 100% of the marker gets removed, the angle matches. If remains some on the tip, the angle is too low, if remais some on the base os the bevel, the angle is too high.
I've been trying to tell people about the Ruixin Pro for years. I have the other one (I think it's the RX-008) with a clamp that flips from one side to the other. In any case, I have modified a bunch of stuff on mine too and it can produce mirror edges in no time at all. One suggestion though, you really don't have to go through all those grits to get the same results. I usually do something like 240 to start with a dull, but undamaged edge (80 or 120 for a damaged one) and then you can go to 400. After that, you don't really need to do 600 or 800, you can jump straight to 1,000, followed by 3,000, and lastly 10,000 with a leather strop to finish it off.
I really like that this sharpener has the ability to clamp the blade in place. On knives that don't have a large flat area on the blade, it's too easy to rock the blade and mess up the angle while sharpening it. That's the main reason I never invested in an Edge Pro Apex. There are other sharpeners out there that clamp the blade, but they're super expensive and I don't want to spend $300 on a sharpening system just to sharpen my $40 Kershaw. I might give the Ruixin Pro III a try.
I have the previous model (v. II) with the vacuum-mount plastic base and round swiveling clamp, which does swivel, but doesn't clamp or vacuum-mount worth a damn! The only fixes I came up with was to drill thru the base 3x and mount it on 6"*12"*1" oak, stake the swivel ball with a wood screw and make a block to support the back end, stopping the platform from leaning left or right. I'm using 4 stacked 2"*1"*1/2" ceramic magnets, not neo type. The best mod was to cut a harbor freight bastard file down to ~5.5" and epoxy it to an aluminum duplicate of the plastic stone bases. Really speeds up re-profiling process. I Dremel/diamond bit engraved the bases with stone grades instead of paper labels. Totally waterproof. Great video, BTW. But the only thing you didn't do was list all the awesome, killer blues backing tracks. SRV I caught, but all the rest? Who, please?
The music I got on royalty free websites so youtube won't block my video. It really looks a lot like SRV, but I just don't remember where I got them. I searched google trying to find some royalty free blues musics and I saved the ones I liked. Post some pictures or a video of your mod, I'm curious. Thanks!
great upgrades.... new units come with a wingless blade holder bolt, but the magnet trick is the way to go ... I used a 90 pound rated magnet... no issues at all holds tight. great base too.. I used a butcher block about 1.5 inches thick... and placed the guide rod holder in the center as you did, then offset it as it was when in the metal base, the offset allows the stone to hit more of the blade.... thanks... to all thinking about buying one of these>>> great sharpener, buy one !!
Sounds like you made a really nice base! I've recently placed some 3M round taper rubber feet under the base, helps a lot. The magnet I use has 60x20x10 mm and it's rated 60 pounds, holds pretty tight too. Makes sense what you mentioned about offsetting the guide rod, but unfortunately the holes would be too close, so I can't redo it now. Maybe I'll cut another base to try what you said. Thanks!
i've just bought one of those, and i was thinking how i could solv the problem with the full lenght of the stone than you came with this vid. man i'm your fan now kkkk thanks. e eu sou do Brasil tbm então eu sei como é resolver problemas como este kkkk
Abs!
Thanks for this awesome instruction! Only one flaw in your assembly - I think you should mount the pole off-center like it was originally. Not in the center.
Thank you! I know... I should've made another base, but this one works so good, that more than 1 year has passed and I still didn't make the other one lol.
Great vid, just a thought for you. I thought maybe gluing a small tin (Altoids, Sucrets, Etc.) behind the vertical post, to store the o-rings (maybe a spare o-ring or 2), the drill stop, & the hex key storage. Overall, fantastic instructional video!
*A little help?* Based on this video. I bought this model, understanding that I'm basically buying a DIY parts kit. I'm still using the clamp. I'll get the magnet later on. I've got a couple junk knives that I wanted to practice on. I used oil on my stones, an angle gauge (same app as the one shown here, actually) set to 18 degrees, and used the full length of the stone to keep the wear consistent. I went from roughest to smoothest. I used the weight of the stone/bar, and did not apply much if any pressure. I was obviously removing tonnes of metal as the stones blacked rather quickly. I did not, however, clean the stone between every flip. I used a jeweller's loupe to examine the edges, the parts toward the spine were clearly, but unevenly delineated, but the edge itself was consistent. I can't get them sharp enough to even pass the paper test, let alone the arm-hair test. Suggestions? PS: I have four basic needs. The first is just a good sharp bush knife. The second is my various kitchen knives. The third are all purpose utility knives. The fourth are killing knives, and these must be *literally* as sharp as a fresh straight-razor. Any suggestions welcome, none too basic, if pertinent.
If you do not clean the stone after every single flip, the steel particles will fill the pores of the stone and you will stop getting a consistent edge. The particles will even start hitting the edge damaging it. This is absolutely a must. Depending on the stone, I clean twice per side. For your bush knife, use 30 degrees at least. For you kitchen knives 20. Use lower angles only on good steel like vg10, sg2, etc. Even my Victorinox has a 20 degree edge.
Iversonfr1985 _"If you do not clean the stone after every single flip, the steel particles will fill the pores of the stone and you will stop getting a consistent edge."_ Yup, learned that! :) Some other things that I didn't know enough to mention. My knife didn't have a bevel on it. It's an old, old, old buck knife. So I ground a bevel on it. Now it has at least some edge. It's basically a bit sharper than a butter knife, now. The other thing is that I had to apply some pressure. I didn't want to abuse the knife, seeing as I was trying to bring it back to life. You have to use _some_ pressure. Now that I have a bevel, I think my next move from the 120 to the 320 and give it 200-300 strokes on each side. If it improves, I'll move up. If not, then I know I'm still doing something wrong. Also, I don't know if this is important, or if it is merely a matter of preference, but all of my strokes were draws off of the edge, never against. Does it matter, or should I be also pushing toward the spine?
Having no bevel you have to recreate one, that's a little bit trickier. You have to spend a lot more time grinding with the coarser stones. If you have a belt grinder you could even start the new bevel with it, and then proceed to the ruixin. It's ok to apply some pressure, that's actually needed. I'm applying some pressure even with the 10000 grit and the first strop. The number of strokes is not important, just keep eye checking the bevel until you see an even edge, and ALWAYS keep your stone clean. The stroke's direction is not important either, apply pressure going in and out to save some time. I just can't think of anything more, I really do sharpen my knives today the exact same way I showed in the video. The only thing is that I swapped the leather with the balsa wood.
Well, I ground one out with out 100 strokes each side with the 120 stone. Can you recommend quality stones that will fit this machine? Name brands or links would be appreciated, if you can spare the time.
The best stones I have are like this link below. They are natural stones, a bit more expensive, but much better. www.ebay.com/itm/Nutural-ruby-240-10000-Grit-Kitchen-Knife-sharpener-whetstone-oil-stone-sanying-/201654161897?var=500963871027&hash=item2ef38651e9:m:myzCgsamIsnPqZLUcDZ25zQ I actually have 3 stones from this seller above. All stones with plastic base on eBay will fit this system. Search as "natural sharpening stone" and sort by cheaper first, that you will find other sellers. TomTop is another seller that sells a brand "Anself", they are great too, I have one.
Hello, love this video! I have just brought this knife sharpener my problem I’m having is the size of the o’rings I can’t find the 5/32” size everything I see is in millimeters I can’t workout the correct ones to buy. Could someone tell me the size o’rings I need in millimeters please? Many thanks Mark 😎
Hi, the rod is 7mm (at least mine is), so you need an o’ring with something around 6mm internally. I don’t remember the exact one I bought, but it was 6mm internal and something around 1,5-2mm thick. I actually took the rod to the store and tried one that fit.
Buy an assorted box on ebay. $7. I got the one with the green O-rings, in the foggy box. The 5/16 one in that set wasn't tight, so I used next one smaller. And they are not thick, but so what, just use 2 on each end.
Hello, I know this is an old video but i hope you see my comment, i just got one of these kits today and your video has helped me so much so thank you for that. Just one question @ 6:08 you measure the blade to be 17.5 degrees and then it looks like you measure the stone to be 17.5 degrees too how can that be? Are you measuring the blade at 17.5 and then the stone at 0?
Curious how the the bracket was attached to the base with the machine screws. A nut at the bottom of the hole wouldn't thread thru. The Vertical rod assembly shows a nut put in the hole drilled. since it is such a short length it's curious how it managed to be at the right depth to provide enough stability to the vertical support. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks again for a great video.
I bought one of these and it works... you just gotta learn how to work with it though as it has some functionality issues such as the clamp that SUPPOSED to hole the knife in place does not work very well and rod on mine keep jamming if i don’t move the rod straight up and down even with a good amount of grease applied to the rod. Other than that it works ok for its intended purpose...
Boa.
Thanks for this video! Not sure if you still have access to this account, but how did you attach the bolts for the base to the wood? I didn't see if you used threaded inserts or not.
I was so unsatisfied i bought the ken onion work sharp n its ok n cuts papers but no where near where iwant them... im so desparate ieven ordered a block sharpner earlier. Ok, i will try these stone u recommend n let u know. Thank u for this.
Just ordered mine. And as for the magnet, I got the same dimensions (ebay), 60x20x10, but......... I found one a bit weaker, at N48. I'm pretty sure this will be better than that overstrong N52. Now, to find a butcher block. 🤔
I don't know if there's much difference between the N48 and the N52, but it's really a bit too strong. The stones with base are 150mm long, I think the Apex Pro stones will fit perfectly, but IMO they are too expensive, try searching on Ebay "Natural Sharpening Stones" and sort by lowest price first, you'll find some really great stones, I have 2 complete kits as a spare in case I accidentally break a stone or two or wear off. I found this ad doing a quick search. I paid U$26 if I'm not mistaken, you have to do a little diggin' to see if you can find a cheaper one: www.ebay.com/itm/Whetstone-Knife-Sharpening-Stone-Set-Of-8-Pcs-Water-Stone-200-10000-Grit/232814616195 Just found a much cheaper one, looks exactly like mine: www.ebay.com/itm/8PCS-Apex-Pro-Sharpener-Whetstone-Oilstone-Holder-Knife-Sharpening-Stone-Set-/123477252409
Thanks. And are these the same also?: www.ebay.com/itm/8PCS-Apex-Pro-Sharpener-Whetstone-Oilstone-Holder-Knife-Sharpening-Stone-Set/254180117558?epid=21017522052&hash=item3b2e50cc36:g:Zf8AAOSwZENcnIJb
Great video, thanks for uploading. But about the point at the end about making a cheap knife sharp, just about any crappy knife can be sharpened razor sharp, it just won't hold the edge very long compared to something made with decent steel.
Excelente video!
can you please provide the information about the thickness of the rod? I found details about the length but not about the thickness (I need to know the exact thickness before I ordering the item). Big thumbs up for the video!
@iversonfr1985 can you comment on where you bought your new 8mm rod? Did it come threaded to fit into the back of the sanding block holder? What about the stops on the 8mm rod?
The 8mm rod I bought on a junk yard. I have a tap & die set so I threaded it myself. The stops are meant for drill bit sets. I bought them on a hardware store, but you can find them on eBay as “drill bit depth stop collar”
Excellent video!! Question on the angle. How do you choose and assemble the right angle. I saw the app angle part, but i like to know how the angle is being determined. Is it slightly less angle to start with and then hoping after shapening movement the balde wears off and produce more angle degree? For example 21degree to 20 degree? thanks
Thank you! I'm not really concerned with high precision measurements like this because the system as it is, it's already way better than freehand sharpening. Just measure the angle you want like 15 or 17.5 or 20º and start with a coarser stone when changing angles, around 200 grit. Sometimes I get 17.8º or 22.3º but that's ok. The rod itself wobbles a bit, which makes a 0.5º error, so there's no need to be worried with such small differences. Staying inside the base limits and using something like the app to check the angle is precise enough. You could double check the angle everytime you change the stone, because slightly thicker or thinner stones results in slightly different angles. But in my opinion, that's overkill.
Obrigado!
Vc chega a umedecelas?
I'm a little worried about the way rod (which holds the stone) fidgets on the attachment to the post. The "attachment hinge" (for lack of a better term) seems to be quite loose. Won't that affect the sharpening angle? Do the bolts loosen over time? Apart from that, the value of this cheap setup really impresses me.
They're a bit loose indeed, but I think it doesn't affect much, my knives always end up razor sharp. That's really the worst part of this sharpener in my opinion, but it works. The bolts are still tight, don't worry about that.
The best vid so far regarding this sharpening system! Can you clarify the outside diameter and the inside diameter of the o-ring in metric please? Thank you!
Hi, the rod has 7mm, so the o'ring needs to be a little bit less. This one has 6mm on the inside and the thickness of the rubber is 4mm. I actually bought the thickest o'ring I found with an internal diameter of 6mm.
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful! It demands some working time to assemble and upgrade, but it's a great system overall for the price.
Best video on knife sharpeners on here. Not only because of the great modifications done clearly enough to follow, but because other people just whine and complain and don't even try to solve the problems. You found problems I would never have thought of until I stumbled into them, much better to sort them all out from the start. Brilliant, thanks :)
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful!
WELL SAID - COMPLETELY...
@@Iversonfr1985 Can you use diamond plates with this sharpener?
I believe you can. If it has approximately the same length and thickness to fit, you can use it. I don’t use them because imo the natural stones are better.
my thoughts exactly
Very impressive
I adapt it according to the way you do everything.
Thanks.
Thanks so much bro. You just made the system actually useful and user-friendly. Ruixin should pay you! And the angle app wads pure genius.
Thank you!
Awesome vid mate, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and when I received my kit, no instructions left me doing a half arsed job, You nailed it man. Thanks
I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks!
Can’t say anything else about your video that nobody else hasn’t said. SUPERB 👍👍👍
Thank you! Come back later to tell the results!
Gave it a go and I think I did ok! had to read up a little more about the "Burr" which now makes sense!
2 quick questions....do you dilute the dish washing liquid? and re the tape that you place down on the stand to protect the knife....would you consider gluing something down permanently? I guess it would need to be soft enough but water resistant? cheers JMM
Oh and my kit only had upto 1500 grit I think I might need to add to the collection.
90% of the functionality for like, 10% of the cost of the original.
Gotta love it.
Exactly! Thanks!
I'm glad this video was helpful! Consider buying some extra natural stones, the results are better. Thank you!
Iversonfr1985 will do. Any suggestions as to where I can pick them up?
I bought them all on eBay, but Aliexpress is an alternative too. There were tons of sellers a few months ago, but nowadays there are just a few, you need to search a little bit as "natural sharpening stone" like these ads.

Best purchase I ever made on eBay. Got it yesterday, bolted it down and hacked away. Excellent product, nice vid too. Looking forward to learning proper techniques and knife sharpening vocabularies,
I saw a product review of a beautiful Russian made sharpener last year. 400USD I think. So getting this 20AU product, I had no expectations. Deeply satisfied.
thank you for making this video! I just started using my sharpener. the phone app is genius! great video
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful!
Iversonfr1985 What app are you using for leveling angle?
"Level Gold", it's for iOS only I think
I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm th-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.
Good demo and modifications. Nice job. And great tunes too. Yeah, I come here for the music and learned how to sharpen a knife!
Thank you!
Great video! The upgrades simple and oblivious, but not everyone clear with it. Thanks for guidelines!
You just saved me 14 bucks because I was just about to order a digital angle protractor on Fleabay! Didn't even think of the phone app :-) Very helpful vid, thanks!
Love this - huge upgrade to my system with your recommendations. Thank you - you saved me so much time.
Thank you! It's a great cheap option indeed!
This is one of the best instructional videos I have seen. You could perhaps turn the handle 180 degrees, and have room to sharpen an axe on the other side if you had a bracket to hold the axe. Thank you!
Thank you! That could be done indeed, great idea!
Great video and awesome, simple modifications! Just unboxed mine today and will be following these improvements before i start sharpening. Thanks!
Brilliant explanation. Thanks! All the modifications are really worth the time and effort - Well done.
I really appreciate, thank you!
Thanks so much bro. I put somewhere my manual how to assemble. Thank you again - you saved me so much time
Just brought unit was looking for info to put together . Found this . Cheers mate . Doing mods now . i payed $30 aussie bucks for unit
Love the mods for the setup. I will be doing much like you have here. Thanks for the video, and for the mods.
LIKE UP FROM ME
GREETINGS FOR YOU !!!
Thanks!
thank you so much for the great demo and the upgrades!
I got the Ruixin Pro for about 6 months ago for about $20 and found that I could now get all my knives not razor-sharp but pretty sharp which I had not been able to do in the past.
The only drawback that I can see is that the stones wear out pretty fast... to alleviate the problem, I now only sharpen all my knives using down-strokes to prevent the chiselling effect of the knives cutting into the stones.
very good video. The best I have seen so far. Thank you.
Thank you!
Fabulous film, and saved me a few $$$ on a system I was going to buy!
Nice upgrades , I will be doing mine , thanks.👍
Thanks so much for this. Very thorough and helpful. I will definitely pick one up.
Thank you for watching, I'm glad it was helpful!
Great Job, specifically the upgrades!!! Saved me a bunch of time...
Wow. Awesome. Just came in the mail. Set it up. And got to work. Gonna have to do the mods you suggested tho. Thanks for the help.
Thanks!
this is the best video i have seen all day. thank you! much appreciaed
This is a great video, very explanatory and compact.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
My Dream Sharpener... awesome Modification... Good Music
The leather strop you made for it is a great addition..
Thanks! I'm actually using balsa wood instead of leather nowadays. It's much easier to load the compound, and the results are also great.
Iversonfr1985 never even thought of using balsa,I'll take your word for it and give it a go! Cheers. great video.
Obrigado! Abs!
Try silicone spray on your stroke rod it’s a lot better than oil, you still have to clean it but it slides so much nicer
great video! well explained and edited
Thank you!
i've just bought one of those, and i was thinking how i could solv the problem with the full lenght of the stone than you came with this vid. man i'm your fan now kkkk thanks. e eu sou do Brasil tbm então eu sei como é resolver problemas como este kkkk
Abs!
Congratulations your video is very good and well explained. Thank you Frank Barros
Thanks for this awesome instruction! Only one flaw in your assembly - I think you should mount the pole off-center like it was originally. Not in the center.
Thank you! I know... I should've made another base, but this one works so good, that more than 1 year has passed and I still didn't make the other one lol.
Any reason it should be off centre? Genuine question here - is it to do with the curve in the blade towards the tip of the knife?
Excellent Video Good Sir I'm even more excited to get my kit now.
That could be handy! I rarely disassemble the system but it's a really good idea. Thank you!
Iversonfr1985 _"If you do not clean the stone after every single flip, the steel particles will fill the pores of the stone and you will stop getting a consistent edge."_
Yup, learned that! :)
Some other things that I didn't know enough to mention.
They are natural stones, a bit more expensive, but much better.
www.ebay.com/itm/Nutural-ruby-240-10000-Grit-Kitchen-Knife-sharpener-whetstone-oil-stone-sanying-/201654161897?var=500963871027&hash=item2ef38651e9:m:myzCgsamIsnPqZLUcDZ25zQ
I actually have 3 stones from this seller above.
Thank you very much I just couldn’t workout what the size was. Appreciate you telling me. Cheers Mark 😎
Buy an assorted box on ebay. $7. I got the one with the green O-rings, in the foggy box. The 5/16 one in that set wasn't tight, so I used next one smaller. And they are not thick, but so what, just use 2 on each end.
Thank you I will have a look for them on eBay. 🤩🤩🤩😎
one word, OUTSTANDING !!!
Thank you!
Great thing. Can you write please where can I get the magnet?
Ebay / AliExpress / BangGood - 60mm x 20mm x 10mm grade N52 // 4$
Excellent tutorial very well done sir !
Thank you!
Hello,
I know this is an old video but i hope you see my comment, i just got one of these kits today and your video has helped me so much so thank you for that.
Just one question @ 6:08 you measure the blade to be 17.5 degrees and then it looks like you measure the stone to be 17.5 degrees too how can that be?
Are you measuring the blade at 17.5 and then the stone at 0?
Hi! Thanks! I reset the angle meter on the knife, then I measure the stone’s relative angle
Thank you very much sire for all your expertise and time, you have made this 80% sharpener a 110% easy sharpener to use ♥ > Mr Developer.
Thank you!
Awesome mods man
Thank you!
Link for this magnet: www.ebay.ca/itm/181821941897 $6.xx US
I don't know if there's much difference between the N48 and the N52, but it's really a bit too strong. I paid U$26 if I'm not mistaken, you have to do a little diggin' to see if you can find a cheaper one:

Just found a much cheaper one, looks exactly like mine:

Thanks. And are these the same also?:

O vídeo ficou ótimo, parabéns! Tenho uma dúvida. Qual proporção de água e detergente devo usar? Posso usar detergente de louça tipo Ipê/Limpol?
Obrigado!
this was very helpful. you should buy and sell the modified kits. I would buy one!
Thank you, Teacher!!! Great video tutorial!
Great video, thanks for uploading. But about the point at the end about making a cheap knife sharp, just about any crappy knife can be sharpened razor sharp, it just won't hold the edge very long compared to something made with decent steel.
great idea for upgrade. wonderful.
Thank you!
Excelente video!
Iversonfr1985 Obrigado. Já estou vendo aqui um pra comprar. E alguma pedras diamantadas extras e umas dessas de grit maior.
can you please provide the information about the thickness of the rod? I found details about the length but not about the thickness (I need to know the exact thickness before I ordering the item).
Big thumbs up for the video!
Hi, the rod is something around 7.0 and 7.1mm in diameter according to my caliper.
Big thanks!!
Excellent. I made one very similar. Thanks!
Also I use PURE Windex for the stones ALL STONES clean up quick TOO!
Should I put the hole for vertical rod, in the middle? Or on the right, in front of the Ruixins hole?
On the right, following the ruixin’s original hole. I made this correction on mine after a while.
Hi and thank you for quick response👍🤟👌
Hi, friend. Thanks by the good video. Where can i buy the imã?
Fala cara, comprei no ML. Procura por "ima 60x20x10", vai pagar uns 50 conto hoje. Abs!
Vlw, irmão. Achei que tu era gringo. Vou comprar
@@Iversonfr1985 eu amolei minha faca rotacionando o Gigi todo. Por isso não ficou bom. Vou fazer 15graus e mover a medra só 3cm. Vlw. Obrigado
But in my opinion, that's overkill.
thanks!
Master level mods/practices/video right here, thank you for such a fine demonstration! Oh, any info on the lock nuts by the inside o ring?
how did you attach the new 8mm rod to the grinding plates?
What were the two units you used to clamp the file to the rod.....great build ,,thank you

Vc chega a umedecelas?
Abs!
@@Iversonfr1985 entendi. Muito obrigado mesmo pelas dicas. Vou providenciar a madeira balsa. Abs.
Iversonfr1985 okay, thank you!
+Iversonfr1985 Oh okay. Thank you!
Onde você comprou as pedras e o sistema? Achei interessatíssima a montagem, e o fio ficou excelente.
Obrigado!
