    Perfect timing. Found your channel yesterday and purchased the 65w desktop charger based on your 100w desktop charger review. Never heard of Baseus so was pleased to hear they make quality products. This review came on my feed today and I'm going to return the 65w and buy the 100w. Good to know the minor price difference will be worth it! Thanks!

      Yeah, I worry a little about Baseus being the newer brand but they seem more legit than a lot of others out there. Even on these smaller adapters they tried, time will tell if they can keep the quality high. Mine have been in daily use for a while now and I haven't had any failures yet. Of course TH-cam will be first to know if one pops.

First time using it and I used the Type C 1&2 simultaneously and the adapter got very hot, like very very hot and I can't touch it longer that 3 seconds. It also makes a buzzing sound. As always great work! It's really helpful to know that lower wattage psu are not as good as 100w multi ports, I mostly buy products after watching (and reading) reviews and I usually try not to look at brand but individual product so no brand loyalty from me when product is inferior and manufacturer won't addres any problems. I'm only willing to firgive them a litle when brand is really costumer friendly, open source or easy repairable (or they support "Right to repair").

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's a great attitude! I like Baseus overall. Not every product is going to be a winner, also no brand loyalty. If the 30W adapters are bad I'm going to say so, haha. The 100w multi-port adapters have been great for me, I use them every day. The issue of single use plastic is always a button I push too. We don't need three layers of plastic for a $20 power adapter that will be scratched and dusty after a week of using it.

    The Baseus 100W Desktop Adapter looks like a good on-the-go laptop charger. I plan on getting a Zephyrus gaming laptop and don't want to carry around it's power brick. Ideally I'll leave the charging brick at home for when I game. I'll carry the 100W Baseus when I'm mobile and just need to do productivity work. I also like that it has a power cable. The pros that I won't have a massive adapter hogging up the wall outlet, and that I can pull the ports closer to me if I need to charge other devices like a phone or a tablet.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, hot is subjective with these small/compact power adapters. They basically all hit 60 degrees C now. That's not considered hot anymore. I had one at over 90 degrees C, I actually use that one all the time, it powers my studio (in the loosest sense) lights but I don't touch it so I don't care how hot it gets, it'll break eventually. But, if people need a thermal cameras or thermocouples to figure out if power adapters are faulty or not it isn't so great... If it is always connected to a laptop, the anker 120W or 150W aren't bad for larger loads, they are the most efficient under heavy load, but they do have low 20V so that can cause some issues... why can't one be good at everything. After that it really is the Baseus adapter. I do worry about the quality a little though I haven't found a bad one yet and I have 10 of them.

    Awesome reviews! You reignited my search for the perfect adapter, small and capable, so I got the tiny 75g Baseus 40W 2 port one that advertises 20V 2A on either port but I can't get any of my laptops to draw that, they either don't charge at all (big Thinkad that likes 20V from 65W Baseus charger) or go for 15V 2A+ (tiny Thinkpad or Macbook). I can't find any info on why this might be, any reason you think they won't like 20V 1.5A instead of the 15V 2A ?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, not sure, the devices decide what mode to use so especially older devices, the protocols were not quite defined as well. It should technically work which is annoying. It may charge while the laptop is powered off but not be able to power in an on state since there just isn't enough power available.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with a 100W adapter class so it isn't being pushed to the limit of the power capability. The multiport adapters are a little better in the 100w class, so 100W multiport Baseus desktop or wall adapter. I don't really recommend any other power adapters from them. I’ve got the older three port 65W adapter. Recently, I plugged in my iPhone into usb-c port and heard the phone beeping. I noticed the charging is cycling on and off. I tested it with my other phone all the same. It worked fine for about a year and a half. I guess this power cycling is some sort of malfunction. Picked up new anker 735. Hope it will last as long as my other ankers.
    UPD. Just watched the review of anker 735 and cancelled my order.
    What would be your recommendation for 65W adapter with two USB-C and one USB-A ports? I would using it for travel to plug in two foldable 20W chargers. Each is charging one iPhone 14 Pro with MagSafe pad, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro. ? And, one USB-A port is extra when I need to charge some odd small devices.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have it in your budget I'd step up to the 120W, 735, if possible. I haven't really found the 'best' 65W charger really. They either have the bad form factor, have worse performance, or are unsafe. Sometimes all of those. At least the anker is a safe device. Another thing to consider for a power adapter, is usage, if you need to share a bunch of ports having more power budget helps keep more devices on. So, using a 100 watt adapter, even if you don't NEED 100 watts will keep the adapter cooler, help it run longer, and have some power to spare if you need to charge a laptop.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If it's warm all the time that means it's active all the time, not going into a low power mode. Some adapters do hold this mode on with an apple cable plugged in. Barely warm is generally fine, if it is hot at all while not powering a device then it's probably time to swap out the adapter.

    Ordered Baseus 65W Gan5 wall adapter. Waiting for your review. Still looks to be best choice for light hand baggage only travel, despite your disapproval. Charges work laptop and phone, and there is still third port for something if needed. It has advantage of being small and enough for laptop and phone. There seem there is almost no small 100W wall adapters. Anker 120W adapter would be nice, but bigger and overkill, I don't need to charge 2 laptops, and price is 3x that of Baseus. Being in EU, there is 24 month warranty, if something goes wrong (there is plenty of reports with Baseus ports failing 😟

      I tried getting my hands on the GaN5 stuff, I have a USB Brick / Hub but no power adapter. They keep canceling my orders. Yes, Baseus and quality control... So, the advantage of the larger power adapters is they operate at the peak of efficiency, they aren't operating at the limit of the power adapter, so they stay cooler and last longer. In these tightly packed adapters, a little extra headroom goes a long way. Also, in terms of size difference 65 to 100 it isn't that much. They are heavier though since they tend to add in that extra circuity. In the end if the power adapter is working for you then it is the right one!

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@claudej8805 So, efficiency matters more as watts go up. A 100 watt adapter at 88 percent efficiency (about average) versus 94 percent efficiency (the best I've tested) will waste about 6 extra watts. Assuming 8 hours of use per day this is around $40 USD per year of wasted energy.

Or I use my 100W charger to charge my laptop once a week. Which I believe are the more common patterns. Almost nobody would charge 100W 8h per day. • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@claudej8805 Yeah, as mentioned gets worse as watts go up. So, if you only use 300 Wh a week then yeah, it doesn't matter much, only charging a phone would be about that through a power bank. Yes, 800 Wh per day is more of a worst case, a powerful laptop on 8 hours a day and doing something most of that time or several devices, some on all the time would easily get to this figure. I wouldn't say unheard of. The typical business machine, laptop with a dock tends to use 50 watts doing light work and are on for longer time periods. Consumers may use a lot less if things aren't powered on all that often. But yeah, still point taken, if only a phone numbers are way smaller.

    Why does Baseus gain my attention, all to lose it later on? I guess they just don't really care about being the best on the market, they want to teeter on the edge of best and 2nd best, I guess thats how its gonna be. Just yet more items to go into the drawer or broken dreams. That drawer is gonna get so crammed full, you won't be able to close it anymore. I still say, you should make maybe a 200w adapter, that has all the features and safety listings, and meets the safety requirements. At least we would know that you would do it right.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I think the 200w category is covered! What we need is adapters in the 20W - 65W range that win! Oh yeah, the bin is full. I need a bigger bin already, but that bigger bin is also full... of mostly untested things. I'd do a teardown every week if I had a little more time but as it is one a week pushes it with the real job. Either way, I still like the 100W multi-port adapters and use them everyday.

    The tests say nothing about safety. There is no looking for isolation of the transformer, there is no check for a fuse or a fusible resistor. No looking for a Y-capacitor. There isn't even a test for ground isolation. No tests about the voltage output - what happened when the 220V AC/110V AC comes to the USB Port? There are also no tests about the power stability.
