  • We confirm our suspicions of what happened to Paikea when we start investigating the cracks above the rudders. Poorly executed repairs have meant that we must now grind it all back and properly repair the damage. We run out of e'-glass and have to finish repairs in carbon fibre and our transoms start to extend as one project melts into another.
    For those of you who are also working on fibreglass repairs to their boat, Shayne offers a few tips on the correct materials to use and why.

    thanks for the clear explanation “rowing vs biax”. beside the difference for internal loads, i was never thinking at the
    “pealing” of a biax

    “Porky pies”. Hilarious. I was London-born but grew up in Canada, and so really enjoy the Cockney slang. Thanks!

      @@youngbarnacles Can I ask, when you replaced the transom, was the foam butted against the hull and then glassed on each side?

    • @youngbarnacles
      @youngbarnacles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can.
      In the case of this job I glassed the inside skin first on the bigger panels. This saved me a little time. It also made the external corner of the transom a little stronger and able to resist a bang a little better.

    Geez!! those 2 damaged hulls were a shocking repair , makes one wonder , why try to save money if you can't do it yourself , should have got a tradesman like yourself

      Yeah that's a fair comment. In our defense though, this was one of our earlier videos and we weren't really sure if TH-cam viewers wanted to see a close up of us laminating! Turns out there are plenty of boat geeks like us out there so we've done heaps of videos since that cover various processes. If there is something specific you would like us to address let us know, we may be able to put something together for you.
