      Meanwhile Hollywood copying entire stories from books, games, comics plus going further to make cheesy remakes. That’s your defence? As long as it works really well and engages the audience, any content works man. Even if it is a lazy remake of whatever you wanna say. If after all that it’s a hit among the audience, then HBO and its creators have done the job well.
      Plus, not everyone has a console or a PC but everyone does want to get involved with stories - Good stories and that’s the part what they are trying to achieve. Its not only about us gamers there but trying to capture a new audience base as well if they can. Whether it works or not is a different thing, but if it’s done well then the new audience base which does not game will be very happy regardless.

    The show hasn't even come out and y'all judging it already. Yes it will be a direct replication of the game's story BUT it doesn't just end there, they'll also expand and explore stories that have been mentioned in game. Like Ellie's mom, Anna, idk how accurate this is but she'll apparently be played by Ashley Johnson as it is confirmed that Troy and Ashley will be in the show, obviously not as Joel and Ellie but other interesting characters.

    You give valid arguments from the perspective of a gamer and a fan of TLOU. However, you're totally disregarding the fact that not everyone has played the games, and not everyone will. TLOU sold around 20 millions copies all in all; as an example, Game of Thrones, by the end of its run, had a viewership of almost 50 million people. Using that same example, I read the books before the show released, and I can tell you that 9/10 people I spoke to had never even heard of A Song of Ice and Fire before the show came out, and afterward it became a cult phenomenon.
    There's a large group of people that have not played the games and maybe never will, because they're non-gamers (they exist lol). So while I agree that as a fan of the games I'm not entirely sold on it, I understand that there are non-gamers out there who have never experienced the story and will get an opportunity to do so with the show.

  • @GlenBird
    @GlenBird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is slightly me playing devil's advocate, because trust me, I know most video game adaptations are bad and this could easily end up being another one of them. But as someone who hasn't played The Last of Us and hasn't touched a game controller in almost two years (my sister bought me Red Dead 2 for Christmas 2020 and I still haven't played it), I'm kinda seeing this the same way I'd think of a book being adapted to the screen. It may not work for fans of the game, but for someone like me I'm much more likely to watch the show than to play the game at this point, so it's a way for me to experience this story. In fact, watching the show (good or bad) might even motivate me to play the game. If the show is good I might play the game too experience the characters in a more emersive way. If the show is bad I might play the game to experience the superior version of the story.
    So your take is completely valid: this is likely a case of the studio just making a show to cash in on name recognition and nostalgia. But for me, who isn't much of a gamer anymore, it's a way for me to experience The Last of Us's story. Kinda like picking an audiobook over reading a physical copy. That's how I'm approaching it anyway.

  • @jlaser121212

    Why do they make books into movies. Books are perfect, so what is the point of making a book into a movie. All the best books have been made into a movie, some have been great, some have been horrible, but they will continue to make books into movies. But why, well it comes down to money. Television and movies are vast medium that reaches way more people. Someone believed that the Last of US can be shared with a vast audience that will create someone more money. Are the games as good as you can get? Yes. Will the TV show be just as good, we can all hope. But watching them on a big screen with should be great. It might also help open the video game up to more people. Its a great story that should be shared and thankfully HBO is sharing it while trying to make money.

    • @Dylasophical
      @Dylasophical  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But books are different because it's not a visual medium. There aren't already established camera shots and iconic voice performances. You make up the people's voices and faces in your head, so there IS something different to visualize when they bring that to life. To see a character like Gandolf realized in live action is completely different in my opinion. But I get what you mean.

  • @DatGuyNamedAlex
    @DatGuyNamedAlex 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think it's pretty selfish and naïve of you to only be thinking about the people who have PLAYED the game themselves. The whole intent from Neil Druckman was to tell this story through another form of media which is more contained and digestible for people who cannot play the game. Mostly 30+ adults or non gamers. Alternatively, it does add a new layer of realism and emotion to the story for previous players of the games with real life footage. New A list level acting (not just voice), cinematography, amazing writers, producers, set design, prosthetics, makeup, sfx. With HBO, Craig Mazin, and Druckman behind this along with everything I mentioned before, there is NO REAL reason to complain about this retelling. In no way will it be bad and in no way will it affect the original game / story. It seems you have failed to understand the intent of this show and the blatantly obvious benefits to another version and have chosen to criticize and negatively detest this show for views and attention on your TH-cam channel.

    • @DatGuyNamedAlex
      @DatGuyNamedAlex 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Side note: how did you manage to say Pedro and Bella won't be "OUR" Joel and Ellie when "OUR" versions are computer generated mocaps with great voice actors. This retelling could ultimately birth the best versions of Joel and Ellie we ever see THAT ARE ACTUALLY HUMAN. Games graduated over the years through technology into Story based playable Movies and Shows. Games took what worked from that artform and added interactivity. If it anything this story deserves to thrive and blossom in the artform the game is striving to emulate.

    • @DatGuyNamedAlex
      @DatGuyNamedAlex 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A character is a name and a story. The person playing them and how they look is not the main focus. Their main job is to make you feel like they really are that character. I have no doubt both will do that perfectly, so objectively they WILL be Joel and Ellie. Just as much, if not more, than the game versions.

    • @Dylasophical
      @Dylasophical  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I completely understand the intent of the show. Neil Druckman wants to live off of the same thing for a decade without making anything new because it's the easier than writing something original. Remaster, sequel, remaster, tv show.........MAKE SOMETHING NEW. And I'm tired of the "Not everyone is a gamer" argument. Not everyone watches TLC either. Should they make My 600 Pound Life into a video game so that more people can experience it? Sometimes certain experiences are made to be consumed in a certain way.

    Bud, adaptations in any genre is far from lazy. Books to movies, movies to tv shows, biographies to movies etc… it’s simply making a particular story in whatever medium accessible to a wide audience. An example, 2001 A Space Odyssey; originally a novel than adapted to a film. More people remember the movie than the film. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but understand that taking an incredible story from this game and making it accessible to a more broad and wider audience could have the potential to be something truly special.

      I don't think this story is as "accessible" as people think. Controlling the characters yourself added another dimension to the characters, and a lot of the mass audience is just going to compare it to The Walking Dead. Not everything is made for everybody. Being a video game was an important part of why the story worked so well. I mean, lots of people don't watch TLC, so should they make My 600 Pound Life into a video game so more gamers can experience it?

    Not everyone plays video games. That's an obvious point but there are millions of people who miss out on phenomenal stories because they either don't like video games, don't have the means to play it don't have the time (like myself) to get to every game. For those who can't play a game for 20, or 30+ hours to take in the full narrative, they can watch this. I'm glad they're adapting it because I've tried to play The Last of Us in small chunks and this'll streamline it for me.

It was great, but I imagine good actors could bring other layers out. A good example is Iron Man & Deadpool; I thought their comics were lame, but RDJ & Ryan Reynolds changed my mind completely. But there are are also bad examples and I hope The Last of Us isn't going to be anothet one of those.

    movies and shows based on video games are always guaranteed to fail. sonic live action movie is mediocre and besides there was already a 90's sonic tv show that already elevated that franchise, so i have to disagree but other that ur spot on and top of that there's already been 3 remasters of last of us 1 they're just milking this franchise at this point and the gameplay has always been clunky since its ps3 original release the story from TLOU 1 was good gameplay was dated garbage that still hasn't age well. i agree the game itself is already an interactive movie but the cast in this show are terribly miscasted. u can only retell the story soo many times b4 it becomes dull and boring bcuz of how uninspired it is.

      Well I meant Sonic had never had a full fledged 3D adventure that looked realistic. I agree that the movies were average at best. But TLOU was already a fully fleshed out 3D experience. And I always really liked the game play. Clunky, but it did most things exceptionally well.

      uncharted failed at the box office
      as much as i love paul w.s. anderson's resident evil and made it a billion dollar franchise but the story differs too much from the source material, ironically so does its current games and outside from that 3 of the cg films they aren't any good alot of reviews are mixed i have them all in my blu ray collection and i'm mixed on it as well, not the best but not worst neither its subpar, the netfilx live action show is garbage and recently got cancelled after 1 season. RE Reboot is garbage and
      Season 1 of RE Infinite Darkness is very average from what I hear in RE Community.
      Cyberpunk: Edgerunners just came out recently y'all just hyping it up bcuz the game itself failed, i think that show is overrated bcuz everything is the best thing ever & and being called g.oa.t. to the point that i can't take anyone who says that seriously anymore.

      Mortal Kombat movies are all garbage except for mk '95 is the best but also hasn't age well
      Warcraft movie sucked and has mixed reviews

    They probably could have pulled it off if they had hired Sadie Sink as Ellie, but the Mormont kid from game of thrones has nothing in common with Ellie and it's really taking me out of the whole idea of the show. The Pedro Pascal as Joel casting I'm sure will be fine, but the heart of the story has always been Ellie, and if you mess up on her casting , you kinda mess up the whole show... Sorry for the actress, have nothing against her personally, but ellie is a small redhead with freckles and an attitude, she's just not a brow hair girl with no freckles , a british accent and a non-expressive face.

    • @DatGuyNamedAlex
      @DatGuyNamedAlex 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am appalled at how little intelligence you have demonstrated. Ellie has always been brown haired, not a redhead. REGARDLESS, actors are never required to "match" the characters personality. That's why they're ACTORS. There was also most likely many auditions. This actress was chosen for her resemblance to the creators true vision of the character. Also, for how well she could dynamically act and change her emotions, behaviors and attitudes. She proved that in Game of Thrones. The most idiotic thing you said was that she's British. She obviously won't be British in the show, I don't possibly know how you can't understand that. Tom Holland is a brit in his 20's yet somehow he plays American teenage Spiderman because he's AN ACTOR.

    • @godzillazfriction
      @godzillazfriction ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😐... the reason why its so praised but no one really acknowledges it, is that the narrative ties into the gameplay aspect itself... so as a player, you actually start to care which also plays into how Naughty Dog wanted to not give in the ludonarrative dissonance like they did with the Uncharted games... plus don't be one of those who say ''☝️🤓iTS lIkE a INteRaCtiVe mOvIe" - really because that goes to A LOT of games that have cutscenes even with something like GOW 4 only has a slight longer timed cutscenes than compared to GOW 3... games as a whole are way more complex than movies, books or any type of media

    • @Wkumar07
      @Wkumar07 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@godzillazfriction I can buy that explanation. And I agree that games are now extremely complex. That said, though, at the end of the day I want a game to be a game.
