To be fair, it's not a superhero show. It's response to superhero shows and most shockingly a well written commentary on current events. That doesn't negate anything you've said. It's brilliant. Only thing that come close recently is season 3 of The Orville.
Maeve is bisexual. That was actually a point about how sexual identity was used as a brand, and bisexuality was seen as less profitable than Maeve being a lesbianism. Atrain killing a man by dragging him on the street was a reference to how black men were often tied to the back of horses, and later cars, and dragged on the street as a more torturous form of lintching.
Yeah someone else also pointed out the Maive thing. I completely forgot if they said she was bi in season 2. If so, I take back the critique of her and Butcher. And, I'm not sure if that kill was a racial reference. It seemed more like it was just a cool kill, and it took inspiration from Kabal's fatality in Mortal Kombat 11.
Honestly, I think what they could've done w/ SB is actually have him hallucinate back what happened to him in Russia. Now, idk much about drugs and weed, but whatever he takes should be the reason why, but then Im pretty sure he'd have to be out of it the whole time. Now, I'm pretty sure drugs won't make u hallucinate something you don't like, but whatever it is the writers can play around with it and even exaggerate the hallucinations like him thinking he's physically walking around the facility.
I only started watching The Boys because I heard Jensen Ackles was joining and I only got into Supernatural this year during the pandemic. For all the hype of him joining the cast, he was barely in it and they barely tapped into his skill set as an actor. He should have been a scene stealer but almost verged on mcguffin territory. But I do like the show. I binged the first 2 seasons so a lot of it is a blur but I love the social commentary, the performances, the satire and parody and the character work but there's still something I can't put my finger on that keeps it from connecting like it does with other people. I figure that will either go away when I rewatch it for season 4 and give myself a little more breathing room to take it all in, or I'll finally be able to pinpoint my issue(s). I think the show might be pulling its punches for fear of pissing certain people off, but I don't know. I bet the comic has the edge I think this show is reaching for but I could be talking out my ass. Still, it's a great show and this was a good and even handed review.
the season 3 finale of The Boys and felt like an episode of Disney Plus Marvel imo. Especially the plot points (like the Deep’s and Kimiko/Frenchie arc) that felt unnecessarily made it feel like a generic network show.
Honestly my one big compliant with this season was queen Maves survival. I mean the first time we see Soldier Boy use his heartburn it wasn’t too much so it hurt the female and took her powers but it wasn’t gonna turn her into a flesh and bones but then every other time he does that people get nuked and might lose their powers if they don’t turn into flesh and bones and with how much they hyped it up at the last episode I thought oh man this is gonna be big. But then not only does queen Maeve survive his blast but she also jumps off the tower as a human and doesn’t turn into lasagna on the street

the season itself is really well done and i liked it .The only complain ( it's not even a complain but just a preference idk) is that comic's butcher had a way more rough fighting style that made it unique and dirty . Kicks in the balls, eye gouging , bites etc. For instance , he once held a supe by his crotch while he was trying to fly away and i would have liked if he was more "unfair" with his fighting style
