    I've had two of those - each ran 250.000 km with minimal trouble. Now I have a 2016 Superb which has done 410.000 km with minimal trouble. Each have had to be towed once, one for a faulty battery, one for a seized water pump and one for a shredded alternator belt. All 2.0 diesel (170, 170 and 190 Hp) with DSG6.

    It amazes me that people don’t seem to look after their cars particularly the interior considering how expensive cars are to buy and run. I’ve got a 17 year old Mini Cooper that is still like new and it doesn’t take too much effort to keep that way.

    I would say the dent by the filler flap was done by the rear corner of a small flatbed truck or trailer whilst turning. I have a similar shaped dent on an offside rear door of a Mondeo which was done whilst parked on the roadside.

    It looks like it is borderline being an auction car, by the time you tot all the pounds required to make it retail worthy, where at the end of the day it is still a high ish mileage big car with a small engine and mediocre spec. I know good stock is hard to come by just now though. Treading carefully with the dosh on this one I would say is required. 👍

    • @MrSonicAdvance
      @MrSonicAdvance 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Agreed! It's a 10-11 YO car that has been serviced, but needs a fair bit of paint to get it looking nice, as well as a few bits of trim. I honestly would have been reluctant to give them a grand for it, never mind the money being talked about in the video. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole for over a grand, even if it has just had a new cam-belt.

    Crazy how a 10 year old superb with 120k on is worth potentially 5k.
    In 2014 (I know, different times...) I bought a 10 year old 3 series estate in decent nick with similar miles for £2.5k.
    In hindsight I would have preferred a superb as the BMW was nothing but trouble for the 5 years I had it, although as someone in their low-20's, an estate with beige leather was Werther's enough - I would have received some serious stick in a gold superb!

    I had the 1.6 and upgraded to a 2 litre. Much smoother and better engine. The 1.6 had all sorts of EGR and particulate filter issues. The 2 litre has now done 363k km with heavy trailer pulling and lots of abuse and still does not use any oil between oil changes which it gets every 30k/2years! The 1.6 used a lot of oil during winter. Would never recomend the 1.6 on such a heavy car. Also the 5 speed is actually geared suuper heavy. At redline in 5th gear this car would do 270km/h if it had the power to pull itself to redline. Load it up with people and you have the must gutless car in traffic.

I would only do the valet and cam belt and could live with the rest. However, it doesn't seem such a good buy for you as there is too much needed to get it to 'retail' condition and your suggested price seems a little high compared to the examples of this mileage that you can find online (even from other dealers). very informative video. I suppose it depends on what you buy these things for. Estate cars are essentially load luggers and as long as you don't want to get anywhere in a hurry a 1.6L diesel will do the job. | have had 5 VW group cars over the years, A Mk2 GTI which I loved, A Passat estate which was great for a young family, but boring, A Combi which was slow, noisy, thirsty and tiring to drive. An Audi 100 which was very comfortable and easy to live with. My father had an A4 estate which was mind numbingly dull. So Since then I have had BMWs, much nicer to drive, better built, etc. People obviously like these things and judging by the service intervalsthey are probably pretty cheap to run, so somebody will get a car that will drag them and their load around the country sedately but in comfort for many years to come.

    I seriously wouldn't throw any money at significant paintwork. That dent around the filler cap might come out with a dent Dr but at the age and mileage will you ever recoup your costs. They are bullet proof to an extent but probably needs a cam belt/water pump unless you have records to prove it has been done (120k change interval). Aye, last January could not decide between a Superb and a Yeti 4x4. Yeti won by virtue of the 4 x 4 and is a fabulous LITTLE car, therein is my problem. Wished I had gone for the LARGE Superb now. Skoda is a much underrated name in my opinion.

    • @duncanmcewan1049
      @duncanmcewan1049 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with Skoda is that they are still fighting the "old" Skoda name and image. If the brand was to come on the market now, with the current range, no one would bat an eyelid and simply consider it the lower range of the VAG stable. Sadly, too many people remember the "beast" that was the Rapide... Although a bloke in the town I lived wrote off his 944 and transplanted the engine into a Rapide and got a body kit (christ knows where from) and it actually looked decent and obviously shifted ;)

It made a blip sound on unlocking and the dials sweep on ignition so immediately it’s got me thinking it’s had mods done on vcds or a smart phone app based obd mod. Budget tyres are a bit of a put off as where else did owners budget out in upkeep? does make you wonder if they had Johnny at mapz4U put some cruddy tune on it too. I bought a cheap Skoda Superb Estate SE TSI in 2015 with 88, 000 miles on the clock. Lovely looking car with auto gearbox and tinted windows. Pristine interior, folding wing mirrors, metallic grey paintwork. I really should NOT have purchased it.
    My huge mistake was buying the 1.8 petrol variant. I had a professional pre-purchase check carried out plus got my local garage to look over the car. Despite all the care I took to avoid a slip-up, I soon found out that the car used 5-lites of oil per month, doing less than average mileage. After much thought, I decided to refurbish the engine (£2,000). Oil consumption is now in the region of 0.5-litres per month. A headlamp bulb expires once a year, I have repaired two suspension coil springs plus one cambelt and a water pump. I have since been told that the 1.8 VW engine has a deserved reputation for using lots of oil, unlike the 2.0 version.Current mileage is 155,000.
