The color is PERFECT!! Legit stunning and bright and fresh but still so fitting for the home! You are too good Macenna 💕
Hi Drew!!! Looooves your channel ❤️❤️
Hey Drew! Just watched your makeover of Markos' apartment. Glad to see you supporting Macenna🤗.
You are a FRIEND indeed! .... ...
I totally agree with @lonefox stunning and fitting.
Hello Drew....you are the reason I found this channel....I am not keen on the colour of the front door Macenna chose, maybe it is just my own personal taste but it looks very flat and doesnt show the wood grain, really wish Macenna would choose a different colour, like a dark grey or paint it a nice glossy black...would love to know what you think?
I think your mom’s right, both the vent and shingles being black would just pop!
I thumbs up this comment but thought I would also leave a comment. I like both black, but also like wood color. Since it's hard to tell on my phone, I'm going with both black ❤💚💜💙💛
Agree! I came to the comments to say that!
@@cathleenweaver6483 yes they could bring the brown color of the front door up to either the vent or the shingles and paint the other black
Yes! Black vent and shingles
Black 😍
After this renovation, decor is completed your going to need to buy another home and do the same thing because I'm addicted to your channel and I must keep watching your channel ❤️
I imagine that's when she will start on the cottages, so plenty more content coming.
hahahahah aww thank you so much!
Agreed lol
And can work on Fox Run with mom!
SAME
The perfect additions to your renovation. We're honored to help keep your beautiful home safe, MaCenna!
Black vent, wood shingles the same tone as your door. It looks beautiful!
Re skirting: talk to your contractor to see what kind of airflow you need under the house to help determine your skirting. This is something we did wrong with our Reno, we restricted the airflow in our crawl space too much and the wood under the house started to mold because of the humidity in Georgia.
oh wow
I love the last option with a black vent and weathered wood tone for the shingles. Bringing the warmth up helps to balance.
The house is so beautiful! I can’t wait to see it all complete 😍
Im blind I guess I can't see anything different in the pics
@@denisekoenig9479 Same! Just came to the comments to see if it was all the same picture by accident! LOL.
@@denisekoenig9479 Ohhh. Ok. I see it now. I was thinking that she meant the shingles around the vent. It's actually the shingles on the roof portion right below.
@@d.caitlinperunovich328 i see now also ty
Same! :)
For the "skirting" thingy, I think a light big stone would look really cottagy. In France, where I live, cottages are more old stone houses, kind-of like in Snow White, and it's usually paired with wood 🤗 Why not have the same material as the futur chimney? That would tie the whole house together pretty well I think! At least in my head it looks good 😂❤️
This is a good idea ! Same as chimney !
I’ve seen some cottages with stone “skirting” and then the walk way up to the house have a similar tone of stone with grass growing between the stones!:)
Yassssss
As i am Northern Ontario Canada here our Lodge has River Rock skirting , its beautiful. Black vent with black shingles would give you the contrast you are looking for
I love stone skirting with the stone path for a cottage! It just adds another natural element that is so lovely and cozy.
I would do the black vent and metal roof. Also the “concrete” type skirting would be nice as it would keep it cohesive with the back of the house. Otherwise I’d do wood skirting in the same direction as the siding with entry points, maybe stain it the same color as the deck/door?
I was thinking the same thing with staining the same color as the deck and door and having the skirting in the same direction
Fully agree, however, now that the paint color is on the siding, the paint on the front door looks really strange, at least on camera. I think that shade of brown takes away from the beauty of the door. I think a stain would look more authentic(which I know became impossible because you couldn't get all the old paint and finish off, right?), or an entirely different surprise color, like a green or rust color? It's just not making the door look fresh and new, it's making it look like it was overlooked and still awaiting a new paint.
A stone skirting that matched your fireplace would look so amazing and really pull the cottage look together
I would do the skirting brick!! It looks so amazing to see a older home with the skirting wrapped in brick. They do sell a exterior brick that is like tile, it’s thin so it’s just glued on and then has grout and it’s beautiful, strong, and gives a really timeless look. I would choose a brick that looks like a repurposed or recycled brick. It will bring in some of the brown, white, and black. I think it would be so beautiful on your Cottage.
I totally agree!!
I think a limewash/white washed brick would look beautiful!!
“Who were you taking to, your friends?”
“Yeah my friends”
Me: ☺️
Yes that was so sweet 🖤
Her mom is so sweet “are you talking to your friends “
My thoughts exactly! ☺️☺️
both of them are so sweet
I'd opt for black vent and withered wood over shingles. I just can't wait to see the major progressions now! it's been a long journey! I'm so proud of you guys 😭👏👏
but weathered, not withered, just to be clear;)
@@kayerin5749 my mistake :(. thank you so much for correcting me! GBU
I immediately thought that the vent should be black to match the windows. It will be beautiful. Once the decking is in it won't seem too much black because that stain color will be represented so much more. It's really special McKenna, watching this journey has been really amazing. Been watching you for over 2 years and I just can't wait to see everything that you are going to create.
I liked the suggestion someone else gave, which was to paint the "frame" of the vent in the grey mist trim color, and then paint the louvers/slats in black or brown to match the front foor, so it's not a big black box up there. Also, I think the weathered wood shingles would be so lovely.
Metal shingles to match the house. You're going to have a lot of warmth once you add your front porch
Yeah, wait for the porch to be up!
I feel like black shingles would just look a little odd because of the shape, where the metal would be a bit more subtle but still create that dimension that she is looking for
You talking while Romeo runs around with a broom trying to swat at the yellow jacket gives me life 😂😂 like all those hilarious news broadcasts where something weird is going on behind the reporter and they have no idea 🤣
The house looks amazing. The color is perfect. Black with black shingles is the way to go.
I'm leaning towards the metal roof over the shingles to tie everything together. Since you've painted only the windows black, and the trim around it in mist; would it match better if only the slats of the vents in the gable area are painted black and the trim around it in mist? So it matches the window below.
This is exactly what I was thinking!! Paint the vent black and the trim the mist to match the windows
Me too!! And although nbd asked, the roof in black would look amazing, maybe in other project since this one doesn't seem to fit
I'm leaning towards this as well but I'm not sure - did MaCenna mention to paint the metal roof over, or is it going to be naked as is?
Contrast black for everything. I kind of wish you had done the window frames black too, but I think I can see your final vision with them being in a light colour. Love your positive energy and vibes so much. You just keep doing you gorgeous lady :)
I agree with on the window frames, because the silver just looks like an extension of the house color instead of providing much contrast, and I thought it when the samples went up, too. Maybe it would look too stark?
I can’t believe it’s been already a year! House is looking spectacular!
CRAZY RIGHT!!!!!
It doesn't seem like it's been a year at all.
I love the black vent and black shingles. That look was so beautiful against the white. Thank you for sharing this with us!! 🥰im so excited for all the progress you’ve made!!
I get SO excited when I get a Sunday notification that you posted! I literally stop whatever I’m doing to watch. I think the third option with the black and weathered wood looks the best!!!! I literally can’t wait for the porch and all the inside to be done! It looks so beautiful!!!
aww thank you so so much!
That's literally me starting a new week every monday morning!!!
Addicted and also brought a friend to this channel!! so so much motivation! but never know what to start with:( you're such an inspiration Macenna! xx
Your so lucky to have Dad like him. I remembered my Father way back home in the Philippines that always helped us to make our house when he still alive. So a big salute to your Dad. Merry Christmas!
You are so blessed with your Dad - what a wonderful Dad. Thank you for this happy post in these unhappy times
If your doing a patio, and have a material in mind for that, then you can do that for the skirting as well to tie it all together. That's what we did and it looks so much better.
You just painted the outside of your HOUSE, girl!! Get it! 🙌 Re: the gable tiny roof - I think it would look best w/ the metal to match the roof and agree it needs to stand out a bit and that would achieve the standout while incorporating it!
I would go black trim and black shingles! The weathered wood didn't relate back to the door for me - I was confused why that option was there. The house looks AMAZING so far!!!
Am I the only one who would love to see all the windows and doors trimming painted black?
The house is looking great and I can't wait to see the front deck! :)
I agree. It would give the windows and doors more presence. The silver mist just fades into the house color. Personal preference- not my cottage. 🙂
Black vent ..black shingles, absolutely ! The contrast gives the whole house even more class.
I'm not digging the brown door, but maybe when the porch is up I'll feel different - can't wait to see it!
I feel the same way about the brown door. It doesn't feel like it blends in with the house..everything else looks amazing.
I agree! I think it’s the white(?) between the door and it’s side windows? It just seems a little off somehow
Same its a very strange tone and thick so just looks like it’s been painted a dull brown rather than stained. If I hadn’t seen her stain it I would’ve assumed it is yet to finished
I am feeling the same. Something about the brown door front isn’t working for me but the rest of the house is beautiful. Perhaps I just don’t have the vision and once the porch is up it will pull it together or perhaps what it looks like in person isn’t translating through my screen. Not sure but it is the only thing I’m not gelling with currently.
I absolutely live Sunday’s though as it means a new video and I get to see my “friend” working on her cottage. Loved the way your mama (who I adore by the way) asked “are you discussing it with your friends?” ABSOLUTELY!
I’m not sure if it’s the brown isn’t wood or if it’s because the windows are black but it doesn’t feel like it’s part of the same house
Definitely black vent and WEATHERED WOOD!! It will tie in amazing with the door and decking to add warmth in other places on the house
Progress is fantastic! I love the idea of contrast for the front. Personally I would paint the fishscale siding to match front door, all of the texture is lost currently. It will look like stained wood at a glance. Vent in black definitely. For skirting, use cement board and same stone that the fire place is getting. This gives a cohesive sample inside out.
Love the idea of the stone from the fireplace getting a feature on the front of the house. I hope she can find something in that stone that looks good with the current color pallete.
I like this idea.
I,agree with your mom on the contrast color: black for remaining trims, which would pop viewed from the street! I enjoyed the way you gave tips, when using an spray paint tool. I like how you always clean the tool between each usees,& to stop, check always to see what is causing the paint to not flow evenly across the sidings!Again,I happy that you always have help from your love ones,& the same time accomplished each of your projects step by steps! So viewers like me,is learning as well!
I’d do a black vent with a wood accent for the shingles something that compliments the door. So far so good, you did that 🙌🏼✨
The whole house just came to life with the painting! I can't wait to see once the porch is done
I think weathered wood shingles would help pull the warmth from the wood doors and deck up. Also, I don't know if using the decking material for the skirting is an option, but I love its natural tone!
the decking on the porch will also be the skirting down to the ground but just on the porch. i thought it might be too much all the way around the house but we can always see once the porch is up
@@XOMaCenna i agree with madison, the black with the weathered wood (option 3) would pull all of it together, right?
@@XOMaCenna I can't wait to see the porch come together!
@@madisonvandersee3264 we also probably agree that macenna will choose the right thing and it will look great 🥰
@@XOMaCenna I'm not getting the brown skirting on the porch. The brown as it appears on the video is very dense, like paint not stain. A brown skirting doesn't seem to fit. Maybe I would have to see it done. Hope I'm wrong!
The first picture with both black looks the best and stone skirting painted the same as the house would go nice because it won't take away from the details of the windows and door etc. Love love love your journey with this cottage...cannot wait to see it finished x
Black on black that’s the best one in my opinion it really does make it pop it’s very old-school and classy.
Yes, MaCenna, you have worked SO SO SO HARD. So admire your work ethic.
I feel like, given what I know about your preferences, you'll be happiest with the black vent with weathered wood shingles because it will tie that forefront part in with the porch colors. I love black on black and the OCD in me likes the matching roof idea, but design-wise, I think the weathered wood look completes the look the best.
Your house looks so beautiful now and once its finished it's going to be gorgeous 😊. For the shingles and vent, I think that the third option with black vent and brown shingles would be good. The black vent would tie in with the windows and the brown shingles would give it a softer contrast than the black, plus the brown would tie in the door and porch to the front most part of the house's face. Love the progress so far!!!
love! that was my thinking too!
I agree!
Totally agree!
Agree
Agree😍
It looks so good, MaCenna! Quaint and charming! I love the idea of black vent/black shingles. The black shingles look like they're framing the vent, like the windows. I think the door should be the only thing in that gorgeous brown, as it'll be framed with the porch flooring in the same color.
I love the black vent and metal shingles. It gives it contrast but not too much so that there is too much going in the front of the house and your eyes don’t know where to focus. So happy for you!
Love the black vent, metal shingles. I think if the skirting were the right color stone that would be beautifully cottage. Once the porch is done the stone will not look to overpowering. Also once landscaped! Your taste is wonderful, so cannot wait to see what you choose.
I LOVE tuning in to your videos every single week. I count down every Sunday when I can chill out in the evening when it’s dark outside here in the UK with a mug of hot chocolate and watch your weekly adventures. It’s become a ritual every single week. Keep up the amazing work 🙌
Oh yes me too! I have my cozy evening ritual with Macennas videos, thanks to European time zone😉
thank you so much that makes me so so happy!!!
I love that your mom was like “you’re talking to your friends” Like yes, we’re besties 😂❤️
Since you have obviously learned so many new skills and improved on the ones you already had during this past year, is there anything you would do differently now? Any projects you tackled yourself that you would not take on again either because of time, cost, or difficulty involved? Or anything you now feel you could do that you did not attempt this time? Any tools or techniques you would recommend to make a process go faster or easier? Not really the style or design of the house, but more the process of doing something or the products used. Things like applying stain or paint, taking down or putting up bead board or shiplap, adding or removing glass, etc. to the windows, changing the order in which you did a certain project. I am just curious.
I’m sure she’ll do wrap up videos like this when she’s all done and, like you, I am looking forward to hearing about her lessons learned!
Black on black for sure!! It would add so much dimension but also be just a subtle difference I think that's so important - also it would match the windows which would be the best. The house looks awesome MaCenna xx
Black vent and metal sheeting to make everything cohesive!! I actually gasped when I saw the painted house. It looks incredible! 😍😍
The only problem I see is your lack of enthusiasm! Obviously you know I’m kidding! It warms my heart seeing people so happy! You have done an amazing job on all you have accomplished in renovating your cottage! I can’t wait to see it ALL done both inside and out! Anxiously waiting on your next video!!
I’m so incredibly excited to see a the new porch to finally go up for you and to see the whole front of the house finished.
me toooooo!!!
The way those trees’ shadows dance along the walls and the sound of the wind - almost like I’m there. ❤️😍
I love how the exterior looks so far. So clean and nice and satisfying!
Makes me wish I could go live there for a week on holiday. 😆❤️
IMO Black & Metal. I love that you're keeping the character and soul of the house. You're doing an amazing job! 👏
I love that your Dad is helping. I’m 50 years old and still a Daddy’s girl. ❤
Does the skirting need to include ventilation (like when houses have framed lattice) or can/should it be solid? If solid I’d suggest stone veneer. You might even want to continue that around to the new concrete foundation.
Maybe the stone veneer that matches the stone of the fireplace, just a thought.
@@mpi1973 that’s exactly what I was thinking!!
How about adding the same stone veneer to the bottom of the post on the porch. The veneer should match the wood tone on the front door and the shingles also with black around window at top. Also veneer your chimney. Wow with sidewalks and landscaping and rockers on the front porch, black, it will be wonderful!! Also hang Ferns from house on porch. I have that and if you decide to do it let me know and I will give you some advise on planting them so you will need to do little maintance. I live in Texas too. HOUSTON.
I actually love the idea of the "lattice" skirting -- I think it could be so CUTE! And the second choice for the vent and gable-- the black with metal is my favorite. Honestly, MaKenna I am so amazed! You are my comfort TH-camr-- I have absolutely loved being on this journey with you and it's so inspiring. Soak in the pride of your hard work! And I can't wait for Dec 1st!!!
Can't Express enough how proud of you we are!! Your energy and zest , of my gosh!! Also blessings to your Dad, a man of many talents. Your home is made from love and may you and Romeo live there many happy years.
I agree with your mom, black vent and black shingles. I even think black for the house skirt, although i loved quite a few of the ones you showed us! You've all done a fabulous job hun xx
I like the faux concrete skirting painted white dove for the house but would do a square lattice for the porch and stain it the same as the porch and door. Your mom's idea of the gable vent and shingles black is exactly what I would do. I admire all the hard work you, Romeo, and you parents have put it to the cottage. Can't wait for the porch 😍
How has it been a year already that’s crazy! It’s been so cool to see this process and see how smart and creative you really are. Cant wait to see it finished!
It’s amazing how much bigger the front itself looks with the addition of all the windows. It looks gorgeous.
And I’m agreeing with Mom. Black/ black for vent and shingles.
Black Vent & Weathered Wood FO SHO! 🙏 It depends on how the porch is going to look like but it needs more "warmth" I think and the wood is just so so beautiful in general
I love the black with black. It will pop more than the other colors, now if you like suddenness then the black trim with the wood color shingles works the best. You're all doing an amazing job.
I love how Momma called us your friends!! 😍😍😍😍. House looks amazing
Always excited for these renovation videos. Missed the cottage last week...
Same!
Hi MaCenna,
Congratulations on everything! It's looking amazing 🙌
I would see about possibly treating the vent as a window: the "trim" with the little upwards peak in the grey mist, and then the actual vent part in black - so that the black is less intense, and it looks like a little upstairs/attic window. For the shingles, I'd go for either the metal or the brown of the front door. Gives you contrast but still keeps it soft and doesn't look so divided.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Lots of love 💛
Love your attention to detail. That color palette looks so good! I think the Black vent with Metal shingles ties in all the elements of the cottage. Can't wait for the porch and move-in day!
Love the black venting and roof shingle idea. Brick paver skirting on a cottage home looks stunning! That’s a great option.
SO beautiful! I can't wait to see the final result! PLEASEEE do a brick skirt!! You could even paint the brick to make it more monochromatic if you wanted that look!
Can’t wait for December and you’re in the house…… oh dear I’m so excited did not even single video of this your journey ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks amazing! The colours make the house look so fresh and new and contemporary and I think the vent will look great in black. You are such a natural in front of the camera, these videos are such fun to watch. Waiting for the next one already… 😘 love from London
aww thank you so much!
Oooh Black vent and black shingles looks good & contrast-y!👌🏼 love seeing your house come together! Can’t wait for the interior 😍
That one huge limb was like a whole tree by itself when Romeo pulled it! I don't blame you for wanting it down. Every time I see your front door, it makes my heart happy. It's so beautiful! The house is looking so great. It must feel so satisfying to be checking these big jobs off your list.
It’s amazing how big of a difference paint makes, it looks awesome! I agree with your momma, black vent and black shingles.
Thank you so much!! I’m so excited for the final product!!
Keep working hard, you make my day much better! You’re such a positive person and you spread good vibes wherever you are! Can’t wait for December 1st 😁
aww thank you so so much!
I have a weatherboard house, my skirting is timber boards, running horizontal like the siding and painted the house color. The skirting boards are a little more chunky than the siding boards. We also have an access 'door' in an inconspicuous spot to enable access under the house. Love your videos, and the house looks great :)
The access door sounds great!
It's all coming together and it's beautiful!!! As far as the shingle color situation, I guess my question would be what will the roof of the new porch look like? Because you'll probably want it to match that since they will be in similar sight line of each other 🤔
the square lattice is definitely cottage vibes!!! i think it would give a good textural element rather than just a flat plain look!!
OMG!!!! Absolutely incredible, Macenna! Your vision has come to life!!! Squeeeee!! Thank you for inviting us on this journey with you 💙
I love the black vent & weathered wood shingles for some warmth up there. No matter what you choose, it will be fabulous!!
Congratulations!!!!!
Definitely black vent and weathered wood over shingles! It's too pretty!
Yay!!! Best part of sundays! I look forward to this video all week
omg thank you!
Seeing fresh paint on the exterior really made me happy! It’s transformed so much because of all your hard work and resourcefulness!! Can’t wait to see you finish your magic on this beautiful cottage Macenna! 🥳
I love it!! I think black vent and also black shingles is the way to go!!! You have come so far, and it's so fun watching the progress as you go along!
My vote is for the black vent with the metal over shingles! I think that would be the most cohesive!! Loving the series!
Lattice won’t keep the wind or small critters out! Back in the day, they used to flair it out and use same siding as the house, don’t know if I like that either.
I think the singles should match the door and decking to bring a bit of warmth to the other side at the front of the house. Black would be beautiful too but brown would be stunning!!
The house looks amazing! Such a difference with a fresh coat of paint. And I vote black vent with wood shingles to match the front door 🙂
I agree with Momma the black on black. My second choice would be the black and weathered wood look. I just know you will make the right choice. I’m so excited for you! It’s looking absolutely beautiful. I definitely see your vision coming to life.
I like the black vent and black shingles. Beautiful work as always! Love that she has a fresh face finally!!!
Stone skirting would give the house a more cottage feel. To me, it looks like a farmhouse. Same color scheme and metal roof as my old (farm) house haha
Since you went with concrete slab in the rear; then something similar in front. I'm leaning more toward a faux stone like material. Unless for landscaping you plan on covering the bottom of the house visualizely, then painting all the same color wouldn't matter since you wouldn't see it anyway.
Love all your videos and great to see the house taking shape.
IMO the grey mist color doesn't allow enough contrast from the white dove and leaves the house looking a bit one dimensional
It does look really fresh. I think your mom is right with the colour. You’re doing so well, and your enthusiasm is so infectious
Black and Black! Soooo modern but also farmhouse and I love it!!!!!
Ok, here’s my two cents about paint trim options: fish scale in peak black (don’t be afraid), with vent dove grey. Also, I think that fabulous front door has to have some black trim around. It would be good, but remember when porch is built, it wouldn’t shout in your face. Looks lovely.
Love watching everything you are doing. You are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing like you do. Can the scallops match your front door instead of being Dove White? Vent can be either black or match the other trim in the light grey?
The house looks STUNNING. I can’t wait to see the front all come together. I’m so happy for you!! 💕 Also, with painting the vent and the shingles, would you wait until the front porch is up? Just to see it all together? I feel like the weathered look with the black would look great especially with the porch
The weathered wood would tie in the front door and porch decking and then the black vent looks amazing!
I like the black vent and brown wood shingles. I think that makes it feel more cozy and more true to the time it was built
Your excitement makes me so overwhelmed with happiness
