I love that you aren’t “half-assing” anything! You are taking the time to restore every little detail with your home. I know others would’ve just sprayed over the chipped paint & called it a day. I watch other videos and I’m like ohhh noooo MaCenna would never let that pass. Lol. Keep up the good work, you are amazing!
Right? And it's soo much better to do so. Painting over chipped paint saves you time first but you need to spend so much more time afterwards because the new paint will chip away only a few months after. She's doing everything perfectly
Right it's so satisfying to watch her over a lot of other channels cause she does everything the right way and she always uses the correct protection while doing it too!

I’m so glad you rubbed the stain on this time instead of with a paint brush. I love the color you chose but like you said it was a bit thick lol it looked more like brown paint rather than a stain and kind of took away the beautiful wood grain detail. Your work ethic and aesthetics are so amazing as always!

OMG yes I was SO happy to hear when she said she wanted to sand down and reveal more of the wood grain!! That was bugging me so much too when she first did it that it looked like brown paint and not stain but I didn’t want to say anything !! 😬😅

Your videos are the only TH-cam videos I don’t skip a single second of. Love all the hard work and dedication you’ve put into this house! My parents renovated a house built in 1862 that I grew up in and all of their work is so appreciated. It’s an amazing story to tell people and you feel so connected to your home knowing all the work that went into it. You’re going to cherish this for a long time ♥️

As an Italian I’m always beyond surprised not to see actual, you know, bricks in American houses. It’s really fascinating!
I’m loving the natural wood stain on the front door. The brown is too dark and hides the natural beauty and warmth of the wood.
I don't mind the brown it just seems too thick! It doesn't even seem like a stain at all.

Same - if it were me, I’d go with mixed wood tones and just poly the doors and sidelights with marine poly and let the porch floor be darker. But minimally go easy handed on the stain.
With the Golden Hour hitting the door, it makes it really shine!

Watching her paint the sidelights, her hands & motions with the paint going on so smoothly, she looked like a Professional! Then to look at her face, she looks kinda like "Am I doing ok? Is this right? Am I messing it up?" Not used to her being scared, indecisive or doubtful as she exudes such confidence & perfection! Like all the best artists, she's her worst critic! McKenna is humble perfection (look it up in the dictionary, her picture is there) If only everyone had this much pride in their work & self worth! 🌹💕

It’s so interesting to see this addition being built because here in South Africa, our houses are typically made entirely out of brick (double brick layer for exterior walls; single layer for interior walls). I’ve LOVED this series though!!
My dad built a house in Cape Town in the 80s, all face brick!
Just a heads up, the stain you are using is made for deck and fences. The sealer is already built into the stain. Coming from years of experience, I don’t know of a sealer that can or will seal something that is already sealed. Polyurethane, spar urethane and even polycyclic is meant to go on things unsealed. I only post this to warn you that whatever you try and put on top of the behr stain may not do what you’re thinking it will do. It already contains the protection you need from the elements. Just thought I’d share.🙂

What about using a boat sealer? We live in Tx and had it done on our front door and it lasted years. It also was stained with a built in poly. In the stain. Anyone else use boat stain sealer over polyurethane?
@@ellenstrode5477 I’m not sure about boat sealer. My background is in home decor and design. I live in the DFW so it’s not something that one would just happen upon. If that’s an option, maybe MaCenna would consider it.

Yeah it looks like the sealer is sealing out the stain. A danish oil would have been better I reckon.
Love what you're doing with the exception of one thing - The brown front door, it looks like brown paint not a stain and it also clashes with the black window trim. I think if you painted it black to match the window trim it would be more dramatic and have a better flow. Love Love Love the windows.

She stained it brown to match the planks that are going in for the front porch. I think when the porch goes up it will all come together so well.
Maybe... Diffinately a thought since the door was overly endowed for sure...
@@NinjaCat121 I fully understand that she’s matching the door to the wood planks but think of it this way when you drive up to the house you won’t see the color of the wood floor and the door what you will see is the black window trim and a brown door. It just won’t look right.

Every bit of progress on your house just brings the vision a little bit closer. I love to imagine the Home Tour we will see one day in the future. I love getting to imagine you at the stage where you're picking like towels or something for the guest bedroom and having all those details bring the house fully to life.
I love seeing every step. Glad you’re sanding the front door. Stain is unlike paint in that you brush it on, then wipe it off. And do it again if you want it darker. You never leave it on like a layer of paint. It’s all trial and error. This channel is so educational. Love it!

Yay, MaCenna! No more turquoise on the front of the house. This is amazing! And I love your slogan of "any progress is good progress". We are getting ready to move to a new house (we've been in our current home for 16 years) and I feel so overwhelmed and almost frozen trying to decide what to do first. I just need to keep that in mind...any packing, purging, etc is GOOD progress and a move in the right direction! I can't wait to see how the house comes together. I absolutely adore your videos and am so glad I recently found your channel.

I’ve been involved in the building of 2 homes from scratch plus renovation projects so I understand all the decisions that you have to make. It can be Overwhelming. How cool that you have walls! Now I do want to say the front door I think deserves a re-do, something that will make it look more elegant/authentic. Right now that stain looks more like a glob of brown paint.

There is no better feeling than finishing a project you really wanted to do, and be really happy with the result and realise "I did that!" I'm so happy for you, the door looks amazing and we all love all the time, effort and attention to details you put in to every single project. Also, LOVE that you are reusing so many things from the additions and salvige everything you can. You inspire me to do the same, recently I found my self looking at old windows I wound on my property and I thought "what can I do with these?" instead of throwing them away. Can't wait for the next video!
You truly inspired me and helped me to appreciate my 99 year old home. I had major renovations done last year and I'm so in love with the end results. I got the original french doors out of my storage shed and had them reinstalled after living 30 years without them. I understand when you say you're obsessed with your beautiful cottage because I'm so very obsessed with the finished product I get to enjoy everyday. I'm so happy I decided to renovate rather than relocate. Thanks for your amazing content. I couldn't be happier with my beautiful home!

I have now noticed that I am a product of today's impatient group of people. I want to binge watch this whole project, but instead I have to wait. I am sooooo excited to get to the decorating part, but it's still so much fun watching it all come together bit by bit. I'm gonna be so sad when you're all done, so I am teaching myself to have patience and just enjoy it week by week.

As much as I am enjoying your videos, I know our enthusiasm pales in comparison to yours.
I remember how I felt when I expanded my kitchen 15 years ago. The number of decisions to make (by myself) and seeing my vision come to life.
I'm ready to start another project of creating a primary suite upstairs in my story-and-a-half Cape Cod-style house. But first, got to replace the original 70-year-old gravity furnace. Ah, I will have A/C.
This project is so much fun to watch!
WALLS!!!!! Also it is (as a woman) soooo motivating to see you just carry that stack of wood to the yard- and doing your windows, demo-ing all the old boards, getting experience with loads of new tools etc. I know quite a lot of women who would not dare to put up a curtain rod.

I've been following the progress of your home renovation since you posted the video on purchasing it back in January. Can't believe how far the house has come! Watching the progress every week and how happy it makes you brings me so much joy ☺️ Can't wait to see the rest of the work to be done, and then all the pretty things that I know will go into the house.
