Having seen 4 of the 5 acting nominees for both 1973 (SERPICO year) and 1974 (GODFATHER 2 year) as well as both Pacino's and Nicholson's 1975 performances (which Nicholson won), it was tough. I actually think Pacino deserved to win only for SERPICO, while Nicholson should have won 2 years in a row in 1974 and 1975 among the nominees (the not-nominated Gene Hackman would've been my pick for 1974 for THE CONVERSATION).

Nominations still matter. He was unfortunate to have to go up against some legendary actors. His character Sonny in "Dog Day Afternoon" lost out to Jack Nicholson in "One Flew Ove the Cuckoo's Nest."
His speech actually made my eyes water, he's so gracious and humble. For him to share that story with the little girl, was beautiful. We all need inspiration to have aspirations. Hope we can all achieve our dreams.

Also, I loved Glengary Glenn Ross, but it was more of an ensamble film. Pacino was awesome in it, but so were Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Alec Baldwin, etc.

Al Pacino is an excellent actor. He deserves more Oscar's and also an Achievement Award. The man has worked so hard he deserves more!
Al Pacino already has been given the AFI Lifetime achievement award, pretty much the pinnacle for an actor, the list of recipients is short and the definition of prestigious.
Nominations still matter. He was unfortunate to have to go up against some legendary actors. His character Sonny in "Dog Day Afternoon" lost out to Jack Nicholson in "One Flew Ove the Cuckoo's Nest."

You know Scarface was not considered a big thing back when it was released. Dustin Hoffman dozed off while watching it, Lucille Ball hated it, and so did most of Hollywood. You need to remind yourself that this guy played Montana and Corleone. He also did Serpico and Sonny Wortzik. My point is, all these characters couldn't be more different from each other. Yet he nailed all of them to such extend that seeing him without a role almost feels awkward. That is a f up amount of talent.
