- Decomposed Granite (DG) is a wonderful, permeable material for pathways, patios and much more as you will see in this video. DG is about 25% less expensive than concrete and comes in many color (listed below). There is also a brief description in this video on how to install DG. This video was shot in San Diego, California.

1:02 “Listen to me walk on this!” BASS DROPS… lol
Glad you liked it!
Loved the many options, they stir the mind, to be able to create your own outdoor space.
Thanks!
Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it!
Interesting, some nice designs 👍🏻
Thank you!
Do you have to put down a were barrier for either crushed or fine, or just keeping up with weed killer?
For long, fairly straight areas, I recommend a heavy duty weed barrier. It also depends on the type of weeds you have. I most case the weeds will pop up on the edges.
25% cheaper than concrete is that material cost or as per sqft installed
Installed
Nice
Thanks!
I hear using DG as a backyard walkway is not a good idea if you have hard wood floors. What's your take on this?
I would agree, especially if you have a dog
Great suggestions. What are your thoughts in using CG for a dry creek bed? Concerns about it being washed away?
Perhaps, but DG is twice as expensive as Arizona Cobble
Which one do you recommend for heavy power chairs in the backyard so that they don’t track pebbles into the house from the tire treads?
The only chains I'm familiar with are snow chains. Is that what you mean?
@@2minutegardener639 handicap powered wheelchairs
@@LadyGoza Normally I use 3/8" crushed DG for driveways because anything larger will stick in the treads. It depends on the size tread on the wheelchair. I would try the 3/8" on a small scale at first. One of the photos in the video was for a golf cart path (on a ramp no less) and it worked great.
@@2minutegardener639 It’s a Permobil C-300 wheelchair
@@LadyGoza Try the 3/8". let me know how it works out
can weeds grow over DG?
Only if dirt gets in a crack. Weeds will be more common on the edges.
Do you have stabilizer recommendations for installing fine DG? Thx
Different products are available in different parts of the country. Here in Southern California I recommend TechniSoil G3® Pathway Stabilizer.
No doubt it could look nice when new, but after some leaves and debris on it, it will be painful to upkeep. I guess each to their own, but I have a bunch of trees, including a California oak tree that constantly sheds and, in fall/winter, produces acorns that are a pain to clean, especially after some major storms. Using a blower on this path would be impossible in my opinion.
Dg is not perfect for all landscapes. Thanks for watching!
What is the kind at 3:20-3:21? Is it a mix or crushed?
That is 3/8" crushed, I believe the color was called desert mauve
How do you clean off mulch particle that has fallen on DG pathway?
Assuming that the DG was installed with either an integrated stabilizer or a topical stabilizer, it should be easy to sweep the mulch off with a broom.
how do I keep weeds out
Put down a weed barrier first
Will DG be a good/ safe material for backyards used by dogs/pets ? Thanks
As a pathway or mulch? Usually no because the small rocks can get stuck in their paws. However there are new types of stabilizer that will reduce the loose gravel.
Good info but wish the music wasn't there, makes it hard to hear
My videos in my first year definitely had too much music. I have since toned it down. Thanks for watching!
For having 3/8 crushed do I need base of fine dg? Or other base layer?
Use road base underneath
Like to know how much it cost per square foot to do dg pathway?
Thank you!
Roughly, materials should cost $2 - $4 per sq ft plus the same for labor so $4 to $8.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Btw, I can't hear your footsteps because of the silly music. 🙂
Sorry about that. Thanks for watching!
It looks nice, but the problem with it is it is easily tracked into a home and it'll scratch up real wood floors. I have alot of it in my backyard (I didn't put it in, previous owner did), so now I have to spend some $$$ to put something else over it like flagstone or another concrete patio.
Thanks for sharing
thanks for the video, but please remove the background music!
Sorry for that
dump the music track, otherwise all good!
Thanks for the feedback
Try learning about what you are talking about. Many of the photos for ideas in the landscape you label is "decomposed granite" are not but other types of materials from crushed screened rock to pea gravel.
Hi, thanks for watching the video. Every photo in this video came from one the gardens I installed. All the material show are decomposed granite, either crushed 3/4", crushed 3/8" or fine DG. Pea gravel is screened rock not crushed material. All of these sizes and colors can be found on the websites of Southwest Boulder and Stone or KRC Rock (Southern California companies) under decomposed granite.
@@2minutegardener639 Really? no kidding. Except for the fact you have many of the items incorrectly labeled. Also decomposed granite is not screened in a 3/4" minus size, that would road base not D. G. Trying going frame by frame on the items you label and you will be able to correct your errors. Cheers
Thank you for sharing. This video is very helpful. Can you help me to do my front yard? Do you have a contact number? Thanks
Where are you located?
"You can kind of hear me walk around on it..." Maybe without the banal musak I could. Very annoying.
Thanks for watching!
