      Lies Rauri. We all know there's three reasons why you aren't getting it:
      1. Your wife said no

      3. Fujifilm shits all over Sony.

    • @csmvideoproductions7359
      @csmvideoproductions7359 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@Archonsx As a professional photographer with over ten years experience in both still imagery and video, I could not disagree more. Camera bodies offer new and improved features (which are useful) however (other than improved lowlight performance, faster shutter speeds and faster autofocus response) they do not make close to the impact that a quality full frame professional lens does. As a pro, I can use the same lense on 4 different bodies and get the same results each time. Put an amateur photographer/videographer with the best camera body and a kit lens against a professional photographer/videographer with a ten year old camera body and quality glass, the Pro wins every time. The camera bodies have a short shelf life (typically 3-4 years) and is an effective tool to assist the operator (if they know enough to take advantage of the features). There are professionals still using lenses from 20 and 30 years ago….the point is that quality professional glass ages well and resells for 60-80 percent of their original value, whereas the camera bodies 3 years and older do not. I have sold both. There is a reason for that.
      Canon 5D Mark 1 camera body original price -$3500 (September 2005 release) current Price -$250.00
      Canon 70-200 F/2.8 original price -$2400 (1995 release) current price -$1349.00
      Based on the pricing…. It’s quite evident that lenses have and retain their value far more than the camera bodies. Again……”date the bodies…marry the lenses”

    Interesting Rauri, most interesting, and I completely respect your decision. Budget is a big thing for me, and your observations on the cost vs the benefit of the upgrade are completely valid. That said, I'm sure we've all been guilty of seeing the Pros with the latest models and thinking that we really ought to be out there with the same gear - I know I have. I'd also throw into the argument that when a new model or version is introduced, it is wiser to wait at least 6 months to see what issues get flushed out by the early adopters. At least then you have a better idea as to what you are buying into. Stay safe out there sir.

    • @RauriBarron

      Thank you mate. Yeah I’m going to wait to see how it truly performs and for the hot price to cool, it truly costs an arm and a leg over here. And at that price I’d rather spend an extra 1k and get the A7siii which would be a big change for me. But the A7iii and XT4 mean currently I’m not missing anything that the A7iv can provide.

    You are right when it comes to photography. I just bought the A74 three months ago and absolutely love it, but I bought it for video. I tell my photographer friends that the A7III is still amazing for photos. 4k 60, 10bit, no record limit, and the articulating screen are just a few reasons I upgraded. I actually sold my A73 for two Sony ZV-10’s as my B &C cameras at weddings.

I love the real time focusing, the articulating screen and the 4K 60fps even in cropped .. I’ll still keep my Sony a7iii because I love it and in my opinion still holds it’s value so I’ll keep it as my 2nd shooting camera specially when I’m doing weddings it will be always ready with a different lens 👌

Seriously though, you put your arguments forward very well and it does sound like a lot of money to spend, for not a massive improvement. If I weren't a Nikon fan-boy and were starting out again, I might just take your advice and go for the A7III. And 3 years, is nothing really. Nice honest review Rauri. I am getting the A7iv to step into the full frame ecosystem. I currently have 3 a6400's and 2 a6600's and look at replacing all of my a6400's in the next year or so. I like them but I want the 4k60, the focus mapping, and a better camera for taking thumbnails. My teenage boys help me film my videos and sometimes they get too close and the subject will get out of focus so I either scrap that clip or just have to deal with it. With the mapping I think that will help them and me film with my S2 gimbal much better. The video quality on the A7iv seems better than the a6400 I use on my close up gimbal shots. My hope is to have 1 a7s iii , 2 a7 iv's and keep my 2 a6660's for my angle cams. 75% of the time I film everything myself and I like to have plenty of angle options and not have to to move stuff around. Thank gawd I do this for a paying hobby!!! hahahaha Keep on grinding brother!!

      Hi mate, unfortunately I haven’t used the A7c much, but Sony have positioned it as their entry level full frame. Definitely a good camera if you want a more affordable hybrid, for video and photo. The A7iv is a bit of an upgrade on the A7c

    Another great video Rauri. That intro 😢😁👍 glad it turned out all good in the end for your trusty A7 III. My initial excitement for the A7 IV also settled down a bit. I totally agree with you about marketing influence, creating a hype so that we all get excited about new gear, but do we really need it? I will be investing in a telephoto lens first, as this would really open up new possibilities in photography for me rather than a new camera body and the A7 III is still a very capable camera.

    I have the Sony a6600 and I use it mainly for landscape and surfing photography. I’m wondering whether I should upgrade to a full frame (Sony A7IV or Sony A7RIV). What would you recommend? I have 3 APS-C format lenses (Sigma 16mm & 30mm and Sony 10-18mm) but I also have full frame compatible lenses (Sigma 100-400mm, Sony 90mm Macro, and Sony 18-105mm G). I’m thinking of upgrading to a full frame and perhaps investing in the Sony 16-35mm GM. I would keep my a6600 as backup and for in the water surf shots inside a surf housing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Better colours easier to grade in post with its 10 bit 4.2.2 video that you forgot to mention
    2. 4k 60 fps
    3. Articulated screen makes a huuuge difference for me as i set my camera on a tripod and record myself for TH-cam
    4. The new touch screen and new menu
    5. Better eye AFC in video
    6. No more screen off and face detection issues when hdmi out
    I think these are, for my style and personal use with a camera, more than enough reasons to upgrade, that’s why I’ve got my Sony A7lll up for sale! 🤞

      Hi - thanks for watching. By the way I didn't forget to mention 10 bit 4:2:2, this isn't my full review so I didn't go over every spec'. Definitely having 10bit internal makes grading way easier, the colours in the A7iv are nicer too than the A7iii. I did refer to the video I made in which I mentioned that. And I have videos coming up on Why you SHOULD upgrade to the A7iv and mention the video spec, just because I'm not getting it (yet) doesn't mean others shouldn't 😁 I also set my camera on a tripod and record myself for TH-cam, but I use a XT4 for that.

    question: I currently use a Sony A6300 with a Sony 10-18 lens, if I put that lens on the Sony A7 IV will I get the same type of video on 4k 60 since its a crop sensor?

    • @RauriBarron
      @RauriBarron  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My understanding and I’m probably wrong as I haven’t used a drop sensor lens on a full frame, is that it would look standard, the same as if you had a full frame. the full frame lens would be cropped in, and you’d be missing out on some “real estate” but with the crop sensor lens you’d need to crop to get rid of any vignetting anyway, so the crop in 4K 60 would be a help as it’s a necessity, but best check, or test it in store first . (APSC mode)

    Great video. I did upgrade from an A7III to an A7IV, but where it seems your focus is mostly on landscape (I'm new to your channel), I was looking for faster and more intelligent AF, and more megapixels - because my focus is mostly automotive and people, street scenes, etc. Obviously an A7RIV (or the upcoming A7RV, mamma mia...) would be even better for that work, but hey, shoppin' on a budget haha. A used A7RIV is tempting, though.

    Here's the thing for me...
    For video work, clients are still good with 1080. Lighting has been the equalizer between a $10k and $2k camera. With the A7III going cheaper, i would rather add another a7iii (for another angle) and get a decent lens.
    For photo work, the a7iii is also still a great option. Clients do not even notice the difference between an a7riv and a7iii. Lenses make a difference for photo work imo. The a7iii is still very capable.
    Tbh, clients doesnt really care about 420 8 bit or 422 10bit. Let alone 4k and 1080. Doesn't matter what camera you have. If you suck, it wouldn't matter what you use.

    Noise, the A7III is doing better at low light with high ISO. This will be significant when shooting videos.
    Battery Life, the IV is using the same one on III but because you have higher specs, the battery runs out quicker.

    Hey brother what would you recommend for someone doing both photography and video in terms of a single camera and lens(es) if budget/cost was unlimited?
    So far I am thinking either Sony Alpha 1 (A1), Sony A7IV, or A7SIII .
    Ignore prices, I looking to buy once/cry once on most versatile camera & lens(es) setup.

      A7iv is a good option if you want to save a few $ from the A7siii. The A1 is superior to the A7iv obviously so, can’t really compare. But if you want a good solid hybrid the A7iv is good. If more video focus then A7siii is still great for both

      @@RauriBarron Now I am closed in on either A7IV, A1, Nikon Z9, or Canon R3 as my first camera to use for both photo and videos. Also like the idea of a single lens so something like the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 DI III VXD might fit well at least on the Sony camera I think.
      What would you do in my shoes out of these choices if cost was not a factor to consider?

    • @RauriBarron
      @RauriBarron  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tvm2209 whilst that Tamron lens is great and super versatile it’s also quite big and heavy, so if you want it as your daily carry it could be big, unless you really need that wide an aperture (portraits etc), I’d recommend two of Tamrons lenses like the 17-28 and 28-200, lighter and more versatile, wider focal range too. The A1 is probably over kill, it’s in my opinion the best out of the cameras you said. The A7iv is good, suitable for a first camera as a strong hybrid, lighter than the R3 and Z9. But depends what you want to shoot and how often, are you hiking? Street? Landscape? Portrait? Sports? If you’re shooting fast action and want superior video then the A1 would be better option. But the A7iv is really good. The r3 and z9 are too chunky in my opinion for mirrorless for what I do, hiking and landscape

    Hello, thank you for the very nice presentation.
    I came across your channel by searching for information on Sony a7iv. I do not really know which machine to buy. I already have a Sony a6400 with 3 lenses. I am thinking of upgrading and getting the Sony a7iv (I will also keep the a6400, I like it.) However I see various comments about overheating etc. and I started to see if I might get the Sony a7r iv or the Nikon z7ii. You in this case (except a7iii) would choose (based on quality and money) between: Sony a7iv, a7riv or Nikon z7ii Thanks!! 🙂

Also I wouldn’t worry about Sony over heating, I used mine here and it’s very hot and never had warning on my A7iii.

      Enjoyable video with sound personal reasons for why not to upgrade. If I was chosing to buy either and price was not a factor I'd go for the IV. After watching a few vids on the topic and taking into account my own gripes with III I will be upgrading. For me the grip on the III was a little bit tight, menu is clunky especially when you consider how touch screen scentric a lot of us are today, The touch screen should have offered more functionality. There a few other minor points but it looks like most of them will be addressed with this upgrade. When I got the III I loved it but it was only after using it for a while that I started to notice those little things that annoy. I love tech but not to the point that I want to upgrade for the sake of it. My Pixel 2 XL and my 55 Panny Plasma (2013 i think) can attest to that. Would I say I'm sorry I bought the III ? Definitely not! It let me see just how good going mirrorless is. It was to be the last major camera for me so fingers crossed the IV will tick all my boxes, or maybe it's time to dust off my old AE-1. Anyone got any unused ISO 100/ 400 film lying around :)

    The A73 is available at $1500 open box at big stores (full warranty/ return as if it were new).

    So, should I get the Sony ZV-E10 for $800 (only available with kit lens at the moment), so I’m still looking to spend $800 on great(???) lens - but it will be cropped.
    OR
    Pay $700 more for a full frame? I hate losing the native zoom on a lens due to crop.
    I’ll be shooting low light, and essentially b-roll. The articulating screen isn’t necessary.
