    The lowlight was surprisingly better on the A7IV. I think you're right, the over sampling must be helping.

    • @youuuuuuuuuuutube
      @youuuuuuuuuuutube 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The A7siii becomes blurry at high ISO because the noise gets in the way of the details. Here, having more pixels means that the sharpness is better preserved.

    • @davidglukh6473
      @davidglukh6473 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lmao you're both incorrect
      The A7IV's dual native iso is at 3200, and between 3200 and 12,800 ISO, the a7iv will look better in low light. Past 12,800 ISO, the A7Siii's dual ISO kicks in, and it will blow the IV out of the water :)

    • @kadragepictures
      @kadragepictures 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes but the lowlight test is done with a pretty good lighting inside his office, which results in a better image. But I have seen other tests and it was really impressive.

      @wandererstraining 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@davidglukh6473 I trust my eyes. Whatever the numbers were, the A7IV preserved more details at ISO 102k. The A7SIII got blurry due to noise reduction. We'd have to see a comparison in actually low lighting tho.

    Unconvinced by your High ISO test, industry professionals know grain and noise live in the shadows, you weren't in low light, you were in a room correctly exposed with either natural or with artificial light, try this with just a candle on your desk or at night on a dark street corner, that's a real low light high ISO test for noise.

  • @adrianvanleeuwen
    @adrianvanleeuwen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    People need to keep in mind, that if there is a good enough light source in a room, then cranking up the ISO to 102,400 will certainly have little noise. Lots of manufacturers use this trick. A true low light test is actually in very low light, like a dim room or exterior late in day. Not a lit room. You can see catch lights in his eyes plus soft box LEDs in the room and window light. However Matti is right the ISO looks clean in his footage at this ISO. (show us a camera like the older Sony A7iii or A7ii would handle this same scene with same lighting, that I would like to see, to prove how much better this camera is from earlier generations). If you have strong LEDs in room, would changing ISO matter as much? (maybe in backgrounds in room where no light is hitting?)

    Is there a crop in 1080 60 and 1080 120p? Or is it just 4k60 there is a crop?

    Can someone confirm , if the camera was placed in a gimbal & taking a running shot of the subject does it still create the rolling shutter issue? I understand that only rigorous handheld movements will cause it but just wanted to know if this can happen in gimbal as well?

    Why do you guys keep saying "oversampled" video? It's not oversampled. It's downsampled. If it goes from 7k to 4k, it is downsampling. Oversampling would be like what many cheap devices do to cheat specs, where they have a less than FullHD sensor but (badly) produce FullHD videos by oversampling an HD sensor into FullHD media. Oversampling is also what 4k TVs do with non 4k media to give it an artificial sense of a higer resolution.

    The only underwhelmed thing in it is the 4k 60fps supper 35 instead of no crop. They never do it, never make a perfect camera. From photography point of view, it's a great camera, don't know what else could a photographer want. Video side, the crop in 4k 60fps is killing it. Sony could have had a title of a perfect camera just like that, 4k 60fps no crop in A7IV, be it some lesser read out, 8bit only, idk, just have 4k 60fps no crop and there it is, a camera that blows out any competition. Price would be right, photography and video good... pretty much perfect balance. now it feels crippled. Even though it's a really nice camera with plenty of things to offer, but didn't make to the finest. Just because what, fear of cannibalizing sales of A7SIII? But that's a whole other set of customers (in this segment A7SIII and FX3 are biting each other), A7R line - different field entirely, A1- luxurious class for the finest. Cinema cameras? Regular content creators won't buy them anyway, those are for studios and large scale productions, only a handful can afford those systems on their own. Many times I just wanna go and beat crap out of the marketing guys for ruining things that could be dream come true for the masses.

      I'm speaking out of ignorance honestly, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think there are technical limitations that cannot be overcome at the intended entry pricepoint. I don't think the decisions Sony is making are purey market-based. Some, sure. But there are real world limitations to what they can pack into a camera at a $2.5k pricepoint. I mean, look at the Canon R5. It boasts 8k but it overheats so goddamn always that it is barely a useable feature. Sony's cams at least deliver on their specs. Can Sony make a hybrid with a huge sensor, high megapixel, and 4k60 or even 4k120 without running into similar overheating issues? I honestly don't know. Frankly, for A LOT of content creators, the specs will work just fine. For myself, I'll probably get the FX3 and then sell my a73 to try and fund a stills cam in the A7R series. I think that selling "the perfect camera" at $2.5k is probably far too low of a pricepoint IMHO.

    Great info! I'm thinkng about joining team Sony. I mostly shoot talking head footage in 4k 30. I am debating between the a7IV and Cannon (R6?). My only hesitancy is that, side-by-side, the Cannon footage seems to have punchier, more vibrant colors and skin tones out of camera. However, colors look good in this video! Do you think that I can achieve Canon (or better) colors out of camera (without grading)? Thanks again!

      I’ve been a Sony user for years and I work at a production facility that uses FX3 & FX9. I just bought an R5 as the color is great with hardly doing anything to it. Sony color info is great so I can eventually get the Sony to look great.

    I was holding out for this....
    Predominantly shooting video, so wanted good low light + at least 4k 60fps no crop (especially as I will be using wide lens). Now I'm wondering should I just fork out the extra for the A7siii which is more geared to what I'm doing but I didn't want to pay so so much :D

    To the untrained eye I think its much of a muchness, but when you put them side by side I preferred the look of the A7S3. But for me this would be a real winner for point and shoot youtubers that don't have the skill or the wish to do full colour grading like you, Matti. For me, the ideal vlogging camera is something that has good enough colour without the need for colour grading and amazing stabilization. Shooting with my A6400 is painful for vlogging because if the lack of IBIS.

    How about test shots of the Sony a7iv 4k crop 60fps with Sony 16-55 f2.8 lens? The new Tamron aps-c Zoom lenses and the Sigma new aps-c Zoom lenses. Also, do several similar tests with Fuji aps-c prime lenses for Sony e-mount: Fuji 16mm f1.4; Sigma 19mm f/2.8; Sigma 30mm f/1.4; Sigma 56mm f/1.4.

    Sony a7s3 will always be better at low light. I'm not talking about at 400000 iso but anything slightly about the a74 highest iso. Will def get one to replace my OG a7r3 and keeping the a7s3. Anyone know what the max shutter is for flash use? That will be the determining factor

    Since even GoPro does 5.3k in 60 and 4k in 120 so in reality it should at least be that sadly. The low light is the real only difference. They have to step up the stats there and the in body stabilization if they are going to charge 10x
