    The lowlight was surprisingly better on the A7IV. I think you're right, the over sampling must be helping.

    • @youuuuuuuuuuutube
      @youuuuuuuuuuutube 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The A7siii becomes blurry at high ISO because the noise gets in the way of the details. Here, having more pixels means that the sharpness is better preserved.

    • @davidglukh6473
      @davidglukh6473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lmao you're both incorrect
      The A7IV's dual native iso is at 3200, and between 3200 and 12,800 ISO, the a7iv will look better in low light. Past 12,800 ISO, the A7Siii's dual ISO kicks in, and it will blow the IV out of the water :)

      @@davidglukh6473 I trust my eyes. Whatever the numbers were, the A7IV preserved more details at ISO 102k. The A7SIII got blurry due to noise reduction. We'd have to see a comparison in actually low lighting tho.

  • @adrianvanleeuwen
    @adrianvanleeuwen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    People need to keep in mind, that if there is a good enough light source in a room, then cranking up the ISO to 102,400 will certainly have little noise. Lots of manufacturers use this trick. A true low light test is actually in very low light, like a dim room or exterior late in day. Not a lit room. You can see catch lights in his eyes plus soft box LEDs in the room and window light. However Matti is right the ISO looks clean in his footage at this ISO. (show us a camera like the older Sony A7iii or A7ii would handle this same scene with same lighting, that I would like to see, to prove how much better this camera is from earlier generations). If you have strong LEDs in room, would changing ISO matter as much? (maybe in backgrounds in room where no light is hitting?)

  • @DanasAnis
    @DanasAnis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    The only underwhelmed thing in it is the 4k 60fps supper 35 instead of no crop. They never do it, never make a perfect camera. From photography point of view, it's a great camera, don't know what else could a photographer want. Video side, the crop in 4k 60fps is killing it. Sony could have had a title of a perfect camera just like that, 4k 60fps no crop in A7IV, be it some lesser read out, 8bit only, idk, just have 4k 60fps no crop and there it is, a camera that blows out any competition. Price would be right, photography and video good... pretty much perfect balance. now it feels crippled. Even though it's a really nice camera with plenty of things to offer, but didn't make to the finest. Just because what, fear of cannibalizing sales of A7SIII? But that's a whole other set of customers (in this segment A7SIII and FX3 are biting each other), A7R line - different field entirely, A1- luxurious class for the finest. Cinema cameras? Regular content creators won't buy them anyway, those are for studios and large scale productions, only a handful can afford those systems on their own. Many times I just wanna go and beat crap out of the marketing guys for ruining things that could be dream come true for the masses.

    • @sethsquatcho
      @sethsquatcho 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm speaking out of ignorance honestly, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think there are technical limitations that cannot be overcome at the intended entry pricepoint. I don't think the decisions Sony is making are purey market-based. Some, sure. But there are real world limitations to what they can pack into a camera at a $2.5k pricepoint. I mean, look at the Canon R5. It boasts 8k but it overheats so goddamn always that it is barely a useable feature. Sony's cams at least deliver on their specs. Can Sony make a hybrid with a huge sensor, high megapixel, and 4k60 or even 4k120 without running into similar overheating issues? I honestly don't know. Frankly, for A LOT of content creators, the specs will work just fine. For myself, I'll probably get the FX3 and then sell my a73 to try and fund a stills cam in the A7R series. I think that selling "the perfect camera" at $2.5k is probably far too low of a pricepoint IMHO.

    It's a shame, I'm a little bit disappointed. If the camera could do 4K60 without a crop, I would have ordered it right away. But with this 1.5-fold crop and also with a strong rolling shutter, the camera is no longer an option for me. I don't need 33 MPixels and if I do, I still have my Nikon D800 from 2013 with 36 MPixels, which, if only for photos, is one aperture superior to my Sony A6600 in lowlight and also has a greater color depth. So trying the Canon R6, which can do 4K60 or even the Canon R5?
    Let's see or: I bought the IPhone 12Pro Max almost a year ago. It can do 4K60 videos and has great video image stabilization through a moving sensor (this was the reason to buy it). Perhaps you no longer need a large camera for everyday use, smartphones are now very close, including at mirrorless cameras.
    If manufacturers like Sony are skimpy on options for protecting their more expensive cameras on the basic models, they needn't be surprised if people are gradually turning to smartphones.

    To the untrained eye I think its much of a muchness, but when you put them side by side I preferred the look of the A7S3. But for me this would be a real winner for point and shoot youtubers that don't have the skill or the wish to do full colour grading like you, Matti. For me, the ideal vlogging camera is something that has good enough colour without the need for colour grading and amazing stabilization. Shooting with my A6400 is painful for vlogging because if the lack of IBIS.

    I was initially a bit underwhelmed from a specs point of view, but seeing this thing in action now there's no question that I'll be switching to Sony in the next couple of months. This thing honestly looks cleaner at 102400 ISO that my 80D does at 800 😅 Not to mention the stabilisation when vlogging just trashes the IBIS of the EOS R cameras; definitely a no brainer for the hybrid shooter. Really appreciate the hands-on look from you Matti; based on specs alone from other creators I really wasn't convinced until I saw this 👏

    It´s amazing the times you said amazing. I think you are trying to convince yourself, or your viewers. Looking to other reviewers, they were not that impressed with the camera. It seems Sony is following the previous strategy from Canon, with the criple hammer. Almost in 2022, a new camera that only shoots 4k30p (I don´t count with the crop mode, it´s useless), an lcd screen from the 80´s, a similar IBIS as the ones from 2018, the same fps, or even worse (around 6fps), and the list keeps going. Anyway, should be a great camera, but this time, a more conservative move from Sony... and at the end, is just another camera.

So I def need a hybrid cam. My current canon body and the sigma lens i pair with it are great for pics, but my videos don’t look as cinematic as I’d like and I want to book more lifestyle gigs, so I think switching to Sony is a better investment for me. Now a third time: to balance out my frustration: im mad at sony for this, because the a7s3 is a camera a will never sell. Its just such a friggin monster. I shot an art-project yesterday with some aerial action on a castle and i basically shot 100% in 4k100 with autofocus in great dynamic range slog3 10bit 4:2:2. The camera basically ran like this for almost 3 hours straight with the odd minute of downtime in between shots (maybe less then a minute each, just to save battery) and then to round it off we did a spontaneous photoshoot where we shot on the same camera for another 800images in 20minutes with basically perfect results.
    The camera never slowed down, never ever showed any overheating signs and the results are absolutely amazing. There is simply no other Camera that couldve done that. The r5 wouldve imploded like a sunstar after half an hour, the c70 wouldnt take pictures and any bigger cinecams either dont have good autofocus or wouldve killed me as a gimbal operator after 1hour.
    So yeah, im salty at sony for not giving me the perfect sidekick to the a7s3 there, but no, theres nobody else that does what Sony does atm. Just my 3cents.
