- Documents filed by the company shows workers in Palo Alto and Fremont will be among the company's mass layoffs. This comes as rising competition in the electric vehicle market caused Tesla's first quarter profit to plunge 55%. CBS News Bay Area anchor Ryan Yamamoto asks Olaf Groth, PhD, from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business what this all means for the company and for California.

I have co-workers here at a factory I work at that Lease/ buy new pricey cars. These workers here earn 17$ hourly. Everyone here are overspending!! This factory job is not stable!!.
Just glad I paid off my house last week, have zero credit card debt and drive a 16 year old car. Will drive it for another 10 years. These jobs are not stable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what you're saying is people shouldn't buy anything? Then they'll just lay off more people. Honestly, laying people off isn't the issue. The issue is there is not a program to help people find new jobs. There's too much instability in hyper competition and tight margins.
@@jenniferbond7073 I stay in Michigan. I am very greatful for my home! It brings peace of mind that will always have a roof over my head regardless if I loss a job in the future. Have roommates that help to cover taxes and utilities. So basically live for free.
These job losses really hurt when you have to pay rent and car payment. That would terrify me!!!
I will definitely be driving my car for the next 10 years! Never try to impress people who don't even care about you or won't be living with you in retirement!

There will always be people, regardless of how I think, that will carry an inflated ego which will cause them to over compensate by purchasing unnecessary material goods.
People that overspend help our economy. I have realized that I have had no negative effects from living below my means, being self confident and not caring what other struggling people, that don't even care about my life, think of me.
To each there own. I don't earn a lot I just like the peace of mind if I were to loss my job in the future.

Half of households don't have a garage to charge an EV. They would need to find a charging station nearby and sit there for minimum 30 minutes if they can get a supercharger.

Tesla and Apple have the same problem. They have not done anything to improve their products. The only reason it is still standing is US government protectionism. Tesla is still the best deal for EV in the US but the most people wanted Tesla already brought Tesla.

its not the EV market, its the auto market in general, people arnt buy cars, interest rates are high, people are defaulting on their auto loans, major UNIONIZED car companies just asked for major raises...this is just he beginning of the auto industry collapse, its happened before , and what did they do...ask for government bailouts..it won't happen this time around..

The EV market has collapsed. Tesla will have to lay off many, many more workers in order to survive. You really don't need many workers when few people want to buy your cars.

Yep. Elon is personally responsible for the drop in sales. I would never buy a Tesla after what he’s said and done, and I’m not alone in that.

Tesla has a fundamental battery fire problem. They need to move towards solid electrolytes so the batteries don’t have run-off explosive fires.

That’s a lot of thugs and Excons with no jobs I was living in the area a few years back and they were hiring like crazy. I hear rumors that it was hell working there. Lots of criminals and people that have a hard time playing nice with others.
Tesla is moving those jobs to other countries for cheap labor for cheap labor. Why pay Americans $50k-$150k a year when you can pay $1k-$2k a year?

I like tesla cars the way they drive. But I don't like the poor assembly and craftsmanship. When we bring cars to the dealership that there are many gaps, they always say, "the gaps are normal." Not keeping the traditions and not a lot of physical buttons are the problems as well. We don't want yolk steering, no traditional turn signal switches, no windshield wiper blades switch, no glove box button. Phone Bluetooth connection to Tesla is slow response. My $20k kia forte outperform all these.

EVs are junk and have always been junk. My friend owns a Tesla and we drove 180 miles round trip and had to charge twice for 30 minutes each time. I would never buy an EV no matter who makes it. The people who own EVs are followers and think they are trendy.

I would counter that US & California government central planning that pushes technologies that are not proven and must be heavily subsidized is a major force in the consolidation.

EV market in general is More close to socialism or communism. Without huge subsidies and policy to favor EV's Tesla would have been bankrupted years ago. Also If you don't like capitalism, do tell what is better option? If you say communism, please go read book about history
