This is really really cool! I've had my 3D printer a while now and I've always thought about making a 3D printed wheel setup with pedals and shifter. This definitely works for the shifter! I would love to see similar videos for the wheel and pedals. Thanks for making an awesome video!
If you want to easily add a reverse, there's already a spring around the shifter; just add a gate next to the bottom right (the gate which corresponds to 1st) and have the entry point to the gate restricted to the height of the shift knob. Push down on the knob, push left all the way then push forwards.
This thing is amazing. Had it printed.....something went wrong and some parts broke before it was completed. A more stable version will be great. Thanks for sharing this 1 with us all.
Bro, I built on thinking it was gonna feel like a cheap plastic toy. That couldn't be further from the truth. It feels like a real car and it's pretty heavy with all the bolts and nuts, springs washers, bearings. I was amazed
Well shucks, Looks like I am not spending a lot on a racing sim set up. Really glad I found your channel mate, ya just saved a brother some money. Definitely subbing.

Fantastic idea and project! I have no hope of getting into sim racing so no need for this but its just so satisfying to watch! Looking forward to more projects!
I still remember the day you asked me to check out your channel after i posted my shitty diy gt6 handbrake... and holy shit you are getting crazily good
My god! I just finished your seq shifter and handbrake last week and now I have to go again. Printed in ABS or PLA? Freakin nice work man. Very creative! I will find a way to combine this with a seq shifter option like the Thrustmaster one :)
Amazing job bud your an inspiration to a lot of makers out there who want to build there own stuff and don't know where to start. That H-Shifter mounted with your HGV Range Changer/Splitter Switches and you have the Ultimate Truck H-Shifter. Awesome video. Take care
Really cool. loved your channel from at least a few years ago. Mate you could package these up as a kit and sell it, and a high-end version made with alloy instead of 3d printed parts.
Makes a sick Manual Valve body setup!!! Run each switch to a 30a relay , then use the shifter to manually shift a electronic shift transmission like a 4L60E or 4L80E 😏
Add a Button/Lever/Switch on the side of the Shifter and assign it a button pin, then bind it as Reverse. Additionally, I would use an Arduino micro instead, so you can program when the car is not engaged in a gear to be in Neutral, just like a real car would
Literally the best diy channel I've seen, this is super genius actually.. Still waiting on your diy steering wheel!! You should definitely sell these online! Oh, btw thanks for sharing mate!
This is absolutely the best diy TH-cam channel, and I see that you now have a store nice. So now that you have fanatec gear, do you think you'll ever make a video using the cheapest p1 fanatec wheel and modifying it using an adapter to use any wheel instead of having to buy a 300 universal hub. That would be awesome if you ever did that.
hi, very nice ! Few years ago i have done a diy sim racing, and i think, there is one little thing missing on that H shifter ;) I think is missing a return to center on the left right axis, to make the moves more realistics. It, is not simple as a joystick. I my case, I had to use two jaws, one on the left that pushes the stick to the right, but not greater than the center, and an other jaw at the right that pushes the stick to the left but not greater than the center. Your locking system on the forward backward axis is really better that mine and in most of the other things. Mine was done with wood, and "polymorph plastic" molded by hand.
No. Using brass bolts. And a metal gate. And a bolt that has been rounded and tapered at the end of the threads on the gear shift for great tactile feedback and smooth gearshifts are going the extra mile. And I think the gate is probably to big. Cause if you plan to get a taller gear shift stick. The throw will be greatly exaggerated.
Hotglue melts at like 180 degrees. I dont know where you live, but if your simrig gets 180 degrees celcius in the summer I feel truly sorry for you, i'd consider moving :D
great job, in fact I follow your projects and I have already built the base for the pedalboard for logitech g27 and I want to continue enlarging the details of my simulator
I started to get into Sim racing and one of the first channels I found interesting were yours, and I have a Logitech DFP and the pedals, but no shifter, when my friend went over we tried to play and I realized that the built-in sequential was fun, but quite limiting. We then went to the arcade to play Wangan Midnight Maximum (Dunno if that exists in your country or if it existed at all) and it had a 6-speed shifter and I totally felt like I was missing out. So I went to look for loads of videos, I started out by watching this video, but didn't think much of it since I didn't really know how this would work, a whole day later, I start getting into Arduino, loads of other videos by other people making DIY Shifters, and I saw videos of the zero delay USB Encoder blah blah blah, then I went back to this video to get some insight and didn't realize how simple it was. I already got the housing and material down, that was easy, but I never realized how easy it would work until I saw your video, because all the other videos were either very poorly-shown and nearly every video had no instructions to what I needed (I was looking to make a 6+1 speed shifter also with a toggle switch for ETS2) and this video was absolutely perfect. I'm currently buying the USB Encoder, the M8 threaded rod [Because I really want to put an actual shift knob], and etc... Sadly I can't 3D Print but either way, this video was amazing, and I might not have needed to spend that whole night looking for other videos and whole forum posts on how to use this and that, if I had come back to this one. Being a 9th grade student I had little time and this helped a bunch.
I might be missing something, but at the end of the video you show how changing gears activates a unique button. This would mean that in your car game you have to bind each gear to each button. I have never seen a game were you can do this, if anyone knows away around this, or if racing games have this, and i just blind. Please let me know because I have always wanted to make a H shifter but could never get over this part.
If you want to add more for 7 gears and reverse just go to thingiverse and edit the original on there to add 2 more notches and just wire them to a controller. A keyboard controller can also be taken from a membrane keyboard and soldered to the switches. This will make the gear switches act like key strokes on a keyboard and would essentially make it easier to program the switches as to not interfere with you actual keyboard. If you do go this route, the shifter will not be recognized as a controller and be recognized as a second keyboard. Since the keyboard has many keys you use add more notches and switches to suite your needs. Since racing games dont really use that many key bindings it shouldn't be difficult to adjust them accordingly. Also the keyboard controller diagrams may differ from key board to keyboard so u should test it out by jumping a signal to the pins and figuring out which key strokes belong to which pins. It's a bit of a process but much more effective and adaptive than simply wiring it to a controller.
I forgot to mention this would only work for PC only. If you want it to work with a ps4/pc or xbox1/pc try wiring it to the respective controllers. It should still work.

Fellow aussie here, another top quality video, love your stuff man
Again, thank you for keeping my design alive! Great to see so much love around it! Maybe it's time to design a more stable version :)
Great stuff, mate.
Definitely needs to be more stable, A 7th gear for reverse is also useful

@Marsel Jurenec-Music there are some people that have printers but not rigs like me, i'm actually considering putting one of these together sometime

For a less clicky shifter you can use some pads (rubber or cloth) below and above the spring to sit between the spring and the washers :)
I just knew that it wont be long before you make a shifter. Genius

I will find a way to combine this with a seq shifter option like the Thrustmaster one :)
Bambeakz theoretically you could just add rubber bands and make 3rd and 4th gears shifting up and down to make this into a sequential shifter
All you need is to put a different piece on the bottom so you can only shift into 3rd and 4th, but not fully just enough to get touch the button.
You actually made a DIY h shifter. What a legend.

Rainy Clouds proof ?
Rainy Clouds proof ya bum?
this shifter looks awesome it just need something to cover it and its good to go, waiting for the testing
Awesome build!, one thing I would change is the glue used for the switches, on hot summers that will come loose and fall
Actually, the printed plastic parts will start to soften/melt way below the melting temperature of hot glue.
Hotglue melts at like 180 degrees. I dont know where you live, but if your simrig gets 180 degrees celcius in the summer I feel truly sorry for you, i'd consider moving :D
This guy does such a good job, anyone built this? It honestly looks like it needs some bracing to strengthen it up but I like it

Word cant explain how much i love your content :)
Glad you enjoy it!
Congratulations, your work is great, I'm from Brazil.

Or you could just put a 6 speed in it lol

awesome! always look forward to your creations :)

Should get it done in alloy on a CNC 👌🏿
The creator of this says that he will provide vector files on thingiverse, you could try messaging him for the files.
I would be willing to cut these on my CNC just as a demonstration.
Please do it, thats awesome

Thank you....my next project.
Still busy with the F1 Wheel. (I love this stuff)

shouldnt need a mod. Just map 3rd and 4th as upshift and downshift in game. Or he has a seperate sequential shifter video
NAh you need a topplate for that because you need to prevent it to go sideways and that it bounces back. Otherwise it stay in 3rd or 4th.
