So every week you hear me say the same old, "As a Tattoo Collector..." but i've never really gone into what being a tattoo collector really means. I've seen it before, "Why do you have to be a 'collector? Why can't you just be TATTOOED" but for me, being tattooed goes so far beyond just wearing images on my skin. Join me this week while I dive into what being a collector really means to me.

Everyone buys shoes but that doesn't mean everyone is a shoe collector or a sneaker head. Everyone can go out and buy records but that doesn't make them a collector of vinyl. Everyone can go out and buy a painting to hang on their wall from World Market, but that doesn't make them an art collector. It's not having something (even a lot of something) that makes a person a collector, it's the deeper interest, the intention, and the willingness to invest in your collection. Some people just won't get that.

I love your motive to continue to get more tattoos! I grew up in the Filipino tribal tattoo revival and I am apprentice at a shop that started the revival. And your videos motivate me to expand past filipino tattoos to my Hispanic and Irish tattooing! And this helps me to be proud to bear the ancient patterns that have so much sentimental value to me and my culture

I definitely understand the whole punk, so get a tattoo. I was 16 when I got my first one and I was heavily in the punk scene in philly. do I regret it? no. it's a time in my life I enjoyed and I respect the girl I was back then. I hope I can find my whole style like you have found. I told myself I'm gonna wait every 2 years to get a tattoo. I'm constantly changing as a person so seeing every 2 years what I love and want on my body is an amazing thing. ( just my thing, everyone does it differently)
I only have two tattoos but I totally feel this way. It's like you took the words out of my mouth! I'll probably have to send this video to my family eventually haha.

Have you ever had "too many" tattoo concepts at once? If so how did you narrow them down? Do you prioritize more based on content or placement?
Olivia Fowler I have so many! I prioritize and get the one I’ve wanted the longest, and stew over the ones that are newer concepts longer. I would talk to the tattoo artist too- see if there’s any concepts they think need tweaked or are excited about :) I’ve got ideas of placement as well, but I always ask for the artists opinion so that 1) they like the work I’m asking for and 2) they have more experience than me, I trust their judgement. They’ll help perfect an image you have in your head.

I can agree and appreciate this 100%. I'm about it dude. You gave me all the feels. I sat here thinking; yes, I started off with the 1 tattoo and it turned into me seeking an artist and the thrill of meeting them (overall experience). I can consider those artists I get tattooed by as some of my heroes because I admire them so deeply. This reassured me of my "hobby". And expensive one at that, but that's hardly a concept to me when it means getting something I love. The other month I met Isaiah Toothtaker and all I can say is I neeeeed mooooooar! Please more TTT like these.
I think the difference is knowledge and how much you just need to know and want to consume on a subject. I think you are a collector I've learned so much since I started following you and I came to realise I was worth saving up for proper art not just tattoo shops who don't do what I want. I love this series and I totally love your hair and make up in this video so cute!

I can really relate to this. I have lots of vinyls and I love them but I wouldn't call myself a vinyl collector. But I could call myself a tattoo collector, even a piercing collector. I do love getting piercings and tattoos from different artist and meeting new people. And they mean more to me than practically anything.

When I expressed my wish to one day have a lot of tattoos similar to the style I already have to my dad (ex military, not very abstract or ‘artsy’ tattoos, but has a couple with significant meaning), he said ‘Oh, you’re one of THOSE tattooed people’. Idk what he meant, but I guess us ‘collectors’ do have a different reputation amongst other tattooed people lol 😂😊 he laughed and shook his head but it was all in good fun.

Even though my collection is small, I consider myself a tattoo collector. I'm always trying to find new artists that I love to add to my body portfolio
Also I have a question, is it weird for someone to just want a leg done? I know it's pretty common for a sleeve but what is considered normal/ uncommon in the tattoo world on what body parts you get covered first

I totally get when your coming from with wanted to be a collector, I'm from a small town in Illinois, I've always wanted to be different and remembered, when I was little i wished for magic powers. LoL. Then at 15 I went to my first warped tour and was shocked and in awe of all the tattooed people/culture, the next year I got my first and I was hooked. Today I got my 22nd tattoo. 💛 #tattoocollector

Hey, I've been watching a few of your videos and I like this q&a thing, so I thought I'd ask you... I have some tattoos and am planning to keep getting more every year for the rest of my life. I love the whole process of it, it's something very important in my life. But. I don't have a lot of money, and I don't really have a life where it's realistic for me to save up to go see specific artists around the world (even though i'd LOVE to, it's not practicable at the moment). So, I do have friends who dabble in stick-n-poke/diy tattoo stuff, and I think a majority of the tattoos I get (at least in the next few years) will be mostly home-made kind of things. I'm interested in hearing your view on the sticknpoke thing/kitchen tattoo artists. Would you have stuff like that done today? Can diy tats be part of a "tattoo collector"'s collection? Or are you more interested in more professional stuff? Just curious to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks for making nice vids!

I have a few tattoos although I mainly get tattooed by the fab Anna Garvey. I think you can be a collector if you only go to one tattoo artist because you are still collecting their art
I some how ended up starting to collect tattoos. People ask me why I do not like to stick with one artist and some people who are strongly loyal to one of my favourite artists get mad at me or seem offended if I want to go get a tattoo or piercing somewhere else besides that one person. So I would say that I am a beginner at collective tattoos from different artists I find myself going to two or three consultations are looking through Facebook pages that in different tattoo shops with the Marriott to find the right tattoo artist for me. It is this random hobby that has consumed a part of my life last year LOL I just see a deep Beauty and tattoos.

I agree I only have a few tattoos but I want more. but I like start collect different styles and I dont mind getting work done by differnt artiest. Only thing with me is getting time to get them done and haveing the money.
This made me genuinely emotional. I am also a tattoo collector and I don't know anyone else like me and so within that I often feel alone or that no one quite understands me - I'm a sensitive soul, put it that way, so when I answer the "why do you have so many tattoos" questions I do so with a short comment and smile but inside it kind of makes me feel out of place. Or something. But you literally reached into my heart and just spoke out loud the words that I often don't know how to arrange. Thank you for this video ❤

I think it's a pretty easy concept to understand if you liken it to art collecting, only with added difficulty. Is someone still an art collector if they only collect abstract? Yes, of course! Is someone still an art collector if they only collect Picaso? Yes, of course! Well, tattoos are art, so . . .

I'm both, if that's even possible. The majority of mine are by a sole person I go to because of how much I love his style. However I've been collecting one of different styles (watercolour, white ink, friday 13, convention, portrait, word art, etc). My artist knows this.

I don't like when people say things like this. Anyone can get tattoos regardless of their skin color or type. Tattoos don't look better on one person or skin color/type over another...They're all individual and shouldn't be compared. Someone told me they liked tattoos on my skin because "It's more subtle." I never asked for their opinion in the first place. And some people say only people with pale skin should get tattoos. It's just rude and uncalled for. You could have left it at "Your tattoos suit you nicely!" or "I love your tattoos!". Her skin didn't need to be brought up in the comment.
***** But that doesn't stop dark skinned people from getting tattooed so the comment is irrelevant. I have tattoos myself.

Hey, i have a serious problem. I've been dreaming of a simple graphic tattoo for ages, just lines no shading, but i haven't found a tattoo artist that has the style that i want. I live in Finland and it's so tiny country that there's not many different styles when it comes to tattoos, but there are a lot of great artists. Is it simply insane to go and get a tattoo from a person that has never shared a picture of their work with the style that you seek?
