    So glad he liked The Duellists, it's quite an overlooked song. And it's so frickin' good!

    Powerslave is, to me, their best, and Rime of the Ancient Mariner is my favorite Maiden song.

      Powerslave IS their best album :) Most of the people i know, tend to go towards 7th Son as their best, but Powerslave is just a badass album overall.

      I don't know man, 7th son has 8 songs, all of them great, not one filler inside

      TMPOUZI
      It's a great album, but i tend to draw towards Powerslave for the in your face style of songwriting. 7th Son is more of an epic kinda album, with a clear concept to it. Powerslave is just a very good album, with spectacular songwriting.

      Powerslave had a great sound. This is the sound that I would love in the number of the beast. But it's still Maiden.

    • @SpiralDream
      @SpiralDream 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would have been perfect if they scrapped Back in the Village imo.

    • @cumbco
      @cumbco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I love Back In The Village. One of the best Maiden riffs ever. Memorable riffs from Maiden are few and far between nowadays.

    • @SpiralDream
      @SpiralDream 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      cumbco Make no mistake, Maiden nowadays is just pseudo prog nonsense. Been that way now for over a decade. They would benefit from a much needed stripped down sound. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure if any of the new material even has any riffs. It just seems like a bunch of acoustic buildup and guitar melody shit that goes on forever.

    The first minute kind of scared me, thought you weren't going to like this one. Maiden's bassist is one of the best, the whole band is talented as hell. It's actually three guitarists, a bassist, a drummer and a vocalist. The three guitarists switch off on solos.

    • @twwells
      @twwells 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Tyler if I’m not mistaken I believe they incorporated 3 guitars when Bruce and the other gentleman came back to the band and released Brave New World in 1998ish. I’m no Maiden expert though!

    I could never get into Iron Maiden, thought all their "famous" songs were not really my thing. But discovering this album with you, I'm finding some extremely kickass material. I'm going to give this a proper listen. Thanks for the discovery!

    • @Walamonga1313
      @Walamonga1313 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      la porte Most of their famous songs are just that, famous. Run to the Hills is quite popular and it's one of the worst songs in Number of the Beast. 2 Minutes to Midnight is one of their most popular on this album and it doesn't even come close to The Duellists or the title track.

    As a kid man, I wore out about 5 copies of this album (on Cassette back in the day), shows how much I loved it, it is as you saw "flawless". Aces High has always been a bit of a weaker song for me, but the rest of this album is fantastic. Try taking in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner alone and in the dark one night, really pay attention to the story , and it feels a whole different way!

    This album turned me on to metal. I love hearing someone else appreciate it as much as I do. I little history fact about the band, this is the first album recorded with the same lineup as the previous album and you hear the results of continuity. They swapped a guitar player from 1-2, changed the singer from 2-3, and changed the drummer from 3-4. Love this channel. Let's keep it rollin', man!

    The next two albums are my favorite, but it's understandable if you're not into them. Those are the albums where they started using synthesizers, and to be honest they do sound a bit dated, though I don't think that's a bad thing. Let's keep it going!

    • @nickp3949
      @nickp3949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I always thought there was a production drop from Powerslave to Somewhere in Time. Not that SiT is a bad album by any means (it's great), but it's not as clean as the abums before it. It has a very "tinny" sort of of sound to it, and Bruce's vocals have more of an echo than the previous albums. It's much more atmospheric overall and some people might not have the taste for it. The only guarantee is that he's gonna love Wasted Years, because...who doesn't fucking love Wasted Years?

    • @eddies8502
      @eddies8502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nick P he's gonna dig the groove to Stranger in a Strange Land as well as Adrian's timeless bluesy solo on that track.

    • @Luizvideotube
      @Luizvideotube 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dated? They sound so vivid to date. Somewhere in time sound as modern as ever and particularly SSOASS still holds up as a masterpiece.

    • @ironhammer8935
      @ironhammer8935 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Nick P Production drop? I always thought that Powerslave has a weak sound production compared to SIT. On SIT everything sounds bigger, wider and more epic. I'm all about the atmoshpere.

    Good video and reaction. I feel the same way about their albums up to this point in your marathon, except as a metalhead and maiden fan since forever, I like a lot of the stuff you thought was mediocre with them. As others have said, they're not generic, they invented the sound, and certainly no other bands really match the same style of instrumental exactly, but most since have been influenced by them. Having said that, I do feel that their 2nd album, Killers, about the same as you do. It has some decent stuff, but it's probably one of, if not my least favorite of their catalog, so you're not alone.

      The Raver and angel dust man, genuinely think it's one of the best rock albums ever made! As if the term "rock" does its versatility justice 😂

    You now have to keep going and listen the next two albums (Somewhere in Time, Seventh son of a seventh son) those are masterpieces a bit more progressive and technical.

    That solo at the end of Rime of the Ancient Mariner is epic. So sad I couldn’t see you hear it!

    2 more great albums by the mighty Maiden. Then you will got through a tough phase that Maiden themselves struggled with but they have some really great songs in them too. Mind you the 90s Maiden gave us probably the greatest metal anthem ever as well. And once you are past that you will feel the rebirth of Maiden and the new phase of relentless progressive style that they have embraced since 2001. The greatest album IMO is also a part of the rebirth phase but is criminally underrated and not even appreciated by Maiden fans. But I shit you not that this marathon is gonna be worth it for you once you enter the rebirth era.

      Rakshit Raval Don't be such a tease dude! What post 2000 album do you think is the greatest? I'm a big fan of AMOLAD.

      Phil Underhill Haha I don't wanna give the man any spoilers dude. I think AMOLAD is the greatest Maiden album in my opinion. It just has this grim feeling and very dark lyrics that make it an almost black metal album. The stuff they did in that album is just pure gold man. I play that whole album every week just to keep my memory fresh.

      Iron Hammer yes sir...given his reactions to metallica albums, he might like the 90s Maiden a lot. 2000s Maiden will be exciting to watch as well.

    The hardest part about being a Maiden fan is getting your non metal friends to listen that first time. Once they listen they realize how talented they are and usually like them.
