    The album sounds generic because it was the blueprint for pretty much what came after.

      Ah yes, the problem with going back and listening to classic bands. And classic movies. And classic books. Really anything classic.

    • @amjan
      @amjan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You don't get what it means. It means is generic within itself - all the songs are the same.
      Master Of Puppets was a blueprint as well, but it is by no means generic.

    GENERIC?!?!? BOOOOOY you betta recognize!!! The bass player is one of the best that's EVER BEEN. You really need to relisten to it instrumentaly. There's SO MUCH talent it's a shame you can't recognize it.

    Glad you liked this one. BUT You should consider the fact this wasn't yet generic in the 80's dude... the word 'generic' shouldn't be used even now because no other well known band exists that sounds even remotely like Iron Maiden's guitars and drum work to this day. If you throw out the vocals, anybody who listens to metal will still recognize it's Iron Maiden. This band is on a league of their own in music. With that said..let's keep it going!

    The guitarists in Maiden are some of the most underrated in metal. And Steve Harris is one of the greatest bass players/songwriters in metal. Up the Irons! I’m glad you liked it because of Bruce, but don’t look past the musicianship of the entire band

    4:42 - "the music is just secondary to this dude's vocals"
    5:26 - *air guitar*
    In all seriousness though, the band just recruited Bruce Dickinson as the bands new singer, and I think the band knew they had something special so they gave a lot of the spotlight to him. By far one of the most successful change of front man of any band, let alone Metal.

    • @michealbrown163
      @michealbrown163 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, Murray and Harris absolutely cooled their jets for this album in order to let Bruce's vocals shine. In the next album you hear them step it up a bit for songs like The Trooper and Flight of Icarus.

      YouYouYou!!! Artist Album Marathons If you liked the vocalist, you could do a marathon of Bruce Dickinson (solo albums).
      P.D: The remastered 1998 versions are not the bests. If you want to revist a particular song or album, get the no card needed free trial of Tidal (12 days) and listen to the 2015 remasters in HiFi (both 1998 and 2015 are there). Bass really shine there!

      I can't see him disliking Lamb of God. I can see him being a bit hot and cold towards Megadeth. I personally like Megadeth, but mostly for their 89-99 stuff with Friedman, Menza, and Ellefson in the band.
      It goes without saying - sober Dave made a world of difference in the band being successful later on. Sucks that lineup is no more - Freidman kicked ass.

    • @amjan
      @amjan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is you who doesn't have a good ear for music at all. You are easily entertained by hearing the same song in 50 iterations, because you are not able to hear through the pattern they all closely follow. If you only played the guitar, you could at least recognize thay play the same rhythms and the same chord progressions every time. But you don't, right...

    • @davemustaine4866
      @davemustaine4866 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do... And of course they obviously follow the same chord progression and rhythms but they are able to completely change it up somehow and make every song a complete different and fresh experience which for some reason you don't seem to grasp. Let me guess are you trained classically? Because you seem to have a certain level of elitism that even a metalhead couldn't reach.

    If you think this sounds like "generic regular old heavy metal" that's because all of the metal that came after this was influenced by Iron Maiden! When this album came out it was groundbreaking - it's not Maidens fault that every band thereafter modeled themselves after them. There was nothing generic about this music when it came out in the 80s and, to most metalheads, it's still very much relevant today.

  • @sanguisdominus
    @sanguisdominus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You have to remember that when this came out it was anything but generic. The "generic" sound you're referring to was created by bands like Maiden, Priest and Sabbath - they were the bands that started the entire genre, so of course they'll sound "generic" by today's standards - because all other Metal was derived from them. They only sound "generic" because every other Metal band that came after has copied them (Along with Sabbath and Priest.) to some degree.

    I think the only reason you think this sounds generic is because of all that has followed. Yes some songs are better than others but when it was released the was something different from the majority of other rock music. Musically it's 🔥 and done in such a way to make the vocals stand out even more.
    You're not going to turn the volume down on the mic when you've got a singer like that.

    It's maybe harder to see in these marathons and as a newcomer to metal because you don't get the historical context of the records but Iron Maiden are more pioneers than they are 'generic' as any 'generic' sound is due to how influential they've been on other bands. It's sort of similar to when you were listening to Metallica's early records - these bands are the behemoths of their respective sub-genres.

      I'm pretty sure he's just pausing the video. Although i know he skips stuff sometimes, mainly slow ballads.

    Bruce sort of steals the show on this one, but the whole band is on point as always.
    Bruce Dickinson's solo albums would be your thing I'm sure, mainly "Accident of birth" and "The Chemical Wedding". Serious groove-metal vibe on those. Heavier than Maiden also.

    Might be generic now that we are in 2018 and lots of bands have copy/been inspired by this album... But you gotta keep in mind this was recorded back in 1982, I bet it didn't sound generic back then.

  • @uoabigaillevey
    @uoabigaillevey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh hell yeah. Bruce Dickinson. You are gonna have about a week of his vocals before he left for a solo career.. Maiden released 2 albums with a different singer.. then Bruce returns for the rest of their albums to date. What a ride.

    Id love to see what you think of brockhampton. Over the course of 2017 the boy band released 3 albums, all of which were really good in my eyes. Anyways, I like your metal stuff as well and your taste in metal is really interesting. Trivium's album shogun is my favorite album of all time, and I also think it's the most under rated album of all time. To see someone love it as much as I do brought a tear to my eye. Keep it up man.

    I actually respected your opinion up until you said the rest of the musicians are uh, eveyone knows the singer is great but the band is Iron Maiden not just Bruce Dickinson.

  • @RayfordRaySiegel
    @RayfordRaySiegel 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's no way that the songs are generic. The rest of the band is great, and the guitars are definitely there. You just didn't notice them, because you were focusing on the voice, only. Steve Harris is a great song writer, as well as the others that have contributed, or written some songs. You are right, about Bruce, though.

    i cant believe im going to say this but i almost agree , bruce does dominate this album , i wont go as far as the band was just there in the background but the band definitely raises there game to bruces level on piece of mind . ill be shocked if he doesnt recognize that. 0

      Charlie4650 I just asked because a while ago he made a video asking for singers as good as or better than David and alot of people recommended Bruce. So I'm just seeing who he thinks is better.

    Generic? I mean, not the most Technical of riffs and speed, but they pretty much, along with Judas Priest pioneered the twin guitar attack that most modern metal bands use nowadays not to mention their amazing use of twin guitar melody lines all over the place.

  • @fps_efg

    You really seem to like rock/metal singers that can use the high octaves. If that is the case you would really like Devin Townsend. I will never stop recommending this guy as he is for me one of the most technically skilled singers in rock/metal history.

    In year 2018 this album does sound generic... At least for those who still think metal is being played on 8 string guitars and machine gun drums only... But on 1982 which this album was released this is not even close to generic... its nice that you like Bruce Dickinson, who doesn't? Before you start listening and giving your opinion to an album at least check the release date... Opinions are healthy as long as you AT LEAST know some of the facts... Nice Bruce Dickinson impression by the way :p
