    The best knife for starters: sharp, light, affordable. One of the best knives in production today, period. I put The Morakniv Companion to the test by making a One-stick fire and later, processing a large catfish with it.

    Thanks to your video I bought this knife a few days ago and I LOVE IT!! It's probably the best 20$ I've spent so far. The knife is lightweight, the perfect size for EDC and/or camping, can easily be sharpen, has the most comfortable handle EVER and is very durable. Using this knife is a pleasure and it will definitely be my companion from now on.

    Well done. I've often used my Companion HD for processing chickens, rabbits and squirrels. I never thought anyone would want to see that. Now I'm thinking twice about that. BTW, I got Companions for every member of my family as starter knives. They love them.

      how did that fare? I have been on one of my "woodsman video" kicks, and I was wondering how a mora would fare.

    • @FreeAmericaChannel
      @FreeAmericaChannel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It did very well. It is sturdy enough for cutting tough tendons but still light enough to be easy to handle. I even chopped through a shoulder bone that was shot up. Made super fast work of field cleaning too.

    LOL, your awesome bro. One thing that you do in your reviews that I really like, is you tell the price. A lot of guys dont do that. You also process everything on the video, thats cool too. Great Video. I have the Mora Companion HD in the same color.

    I really like how you show the knife in a real world type of use. Everyone shows the knife batoning wood or making feather stripes. To see the knife used to process game and make a fire is great. I don't want to have to carry a game knife and a bush craft knife. The mora seems to just get it done.

    Say Heah James, Last weekend, I teamed up my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife with my Vintage Frost Mora 840 MG. a near perfect color match. And both performed beautifully. The difference between a Clipper and the Mora Companion is the Tang and Blade length I think, The Tang is a little linger but more slender where the Clipper its shorter but more robust. But the hard plastic is in a strategic place in both knives that make such a lite knife very strong. Infact if it was metal instead of plasic, I think you could baton them. Yeah, That Clipper did everything I expected from it. Built today I took my Bushcraft Parang and teamed it with my Benvhmade Bushcrafter #162, and it sort of color matches Ok, But a much stronger knife. I originally bought the 3V Master Hunter to tean up with it. I almost teamed it with my Mora 2000 which I know would team well with it too. So I'm going to get the Mora Kansbol and the aeldris to team up in Green because I like the Mora 2000 knife and the Kansbil is very similar and the Eldris will be my neck knife.,,.

    Nice video. I’m not a big fan of batoning unless it’s an emergency. Why abuse a perfectly good knife that way unless you have to? That’s what hatchets and axes are for. I have a stainless Companion, and like it very much. For an under $20 knife you can’t beat it.

  • @silvanigra
    @silvanigra 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know where you guys got that info, that carbon blades can strike a spark while stainless blades can't! That's total BS. It's not the blade that creates a spark, but the ferrorod or the firesteel or whatever you want to call it, all you need is a sharp edge/spine on your knife. The Fallkniven F1 is stainless and it works just fine with a firesteel.

  • @joehess5481

    I know this is an old video but I just ordered this knife because of it. It would have been nice for you to show how you filed the spine tho

  • @whiskeytangosierra6
    @whiskeytangosierra6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just rec'd my Companion HD in Carbon and put a patina on using heated apple cider vinegar. Looks great, am sure it will handle fish with ease, although I am not a fan of catfish. However, when you are hungry enough even bottom dwelling slime suckers taste good, especially with some seasoning.
    I am certain the Trash Pandas or Coyotes appreciated the leftovers.
    I do take exception to people saying, "it's just a $15 knife". These are awesome values from $15 to $99 so there is a quality knife for everyone.

    That fish was defiantly alive. I watched it move 3 or 4 times. I would defiantly hit it a lot harder next time or stab it through the top of the head to ensure a quick, painless death. Good video though and the blade seems mighty fine. Your review style is very realistic and that is what makes your channel a lot better than the others. Keep doing what your doing mate.

    Lmaoo I’m vegan, so watching you cut the fish made me cringe so hard. But in a survival situation I have no dietary restrictions. So seeing you actually clean a fish out with it was exactly what I wanted to see (I actually wanted to see a rabbit or a bird, but I guess a fish would be the easiest to catch).

    I like your videos, but i don't understand this american obsession for fire flints, i know that pressurized gas lighters don't work at high altitudes, but still there are petrol ones that even carry their own spare parts. Is that for a backpack/weight reason? Isn't that another american obsession?

    • @JunkyardFox
      @JunkyardFox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      dont et me wrong, i carry a lighter in my boot and a second in my pack, i use it quite often while in the wilderness. however, the purpose of this vidoe was to review a knife, so testing the knife to strike a ferro rod is more appropriate than just using a lighter. i dont fear weight, dont like to be over-encumbered ether, ut i always have what i need.

      no its dead. a lot of animals still slightly move when killed but its nerves.

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It gets so tiresome listening to ignorant statements like yours. Dead or alive, it's a fish. It doesn't feel pain like humans do, and it has essentially no brain. This world is going to perish if people don't stop pushing anthropomorphism on others.. Especially lower forms of animals like fish and roaches.
      Tell me, why shouldn't something that's still alive be cut open with a knife? How better to kill it? Dead is dead, and the animal is not self aware. It's also the only [practical way of preparing fish, lobster, etc.
      Stop living on pure, completely false, emotion, and start learning to use the reasoning part of your brain. You might begin by actually learning something about fish, lobsters, and other lower forms of life.
      You might also want to watch a ion slowly eat an animal that's still alive, and sometimes remains alive for hours. This is not Disneyland, and Bambi is just a cartoon.

      Almost every animal will still move around a bit immediately after it's death, I've seen snakes that still move around slightly after they had their heads cut off, organs removed, and skin taken off, literally nothing but muscle and bone that still moves just a little. Muscles are just kinda weird like that.

    I agree. This is a good knife for a child or poor person, but it in no way shape or form can compare to a true woodsman's knife. It is better than the Wal-Mart junk but it is still a cheap and easily damaged knife with no tang that just won't hold up to heavy camp chores. People like these because they are $15, not because they perform when most needed. Still not horrible for the money.
