When they started singing, the crowd loved them. Someone told them that they were some righteous brothers, so they changed their name.

I grew up on this and other great music. People actually sang and played instruments. No autotune, synthesizers, etc. I have been to a Righteous Brothers concert and they were as good live as they were recorded. No difference. Same with other greats like Roy Orbison.

Wore that one out, too. I think Phil Spector sent his kids through college just on the money I spent on Righteous Brothers records. The thing that really strikes me about this particular song is that i honestly don't know anyone who wasn't completely bowled over by it the first time they hard it. There are some songs that, when you first hear them, you think, "That's' not too bad", and the more times you hear it, the more you start to like it. Then after a while you start to get a little tired of it. and eventually you forget about it and go on to something new. But this song just plain knocks you on your ass from the get-go--like it did to you--and from then on you NEVER tire of it. It's almost like it burrows its way into your brain, and you just can't get it out. And you don't want to, anyway.

The Righteous Brothers were amazing singers, but what can get lost is the music that supported them. This record was produced by Phil Spector, and his "Wall of Sound" technique was very prominent, but it did not overpower the singers. As a person, Phil Spector is absolutely bat-crap crazy, but he was the most amazing producer in the recording business. Check out a few songs by The Crystals produced by Spector, one of the best being "Then He Kissed Me". "Da Doo Ron Ron" is another great song by the Crystals. The Ronettes was another group that Spector produced. One of their biggest hits was "Be My Baby". Check these records out, and listen to the music. I think that they are amazing.

It is so nice in the day and age of total divisiveness to watch a young Black man appreciating the music of my generation and "Blue Eyed Soul." In addition, I realized I had the chance back in the 70's to approach Bobbie Hatfield, (the 'high' part falsetto) who was playing the slots in Vegas and just tell him he had my Mother's maiden name for a last name. Bobby Spector wrote this song about his father who passed away. He put on his tomb stone .......TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM........I was in senior year of H.S. When this came out and it was played at all the dances we attended. Great slow dancing. Please play to know him.

Bobby Hatfield died in 2003, age 63. He was found by his singing partner Bill Medley dead in a hotel room from a heart attack brought on by cocaine use. His heart wasn't in great shape, but cocaine is deadly especially if someone already has heart disease. Stay away from drugs, people! Gone too soon. This song still makes me cry.

Bobby Spector wrote this song about his father who passed away. He put on his tomb stone .......TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM........I was in senior year of H.S. When this came out and it was played at all the dances we attended. Great slow dancing. Please play to know him.

Bobby Hatfield died in 2003, age 63. He was found by his singing partner Bill Medley dead in a hotel room from a heart attack brought on by cocaine use. His heart wasn't in great shape, but cocaine is deadly especially if someone already has heart disease. Stay away from drugs, people! Gone too soon. This song still makes me cry.

New to you. Christmas surprise for me! Nice reaction, and I hope you keep them coming. I am only 1 of their legion of fanatical fans. They were great, they were RIGHTEOUS, "Bue-eyed soul" was a specific reference to them, and by the way they were only soul brothers, not biological ones. There are many of their songs on TH-cam, my personal favorite was UNCHAINED MELODY, 1965, live solo performance by Bobby (the tenor), and I hope you treat yourself and us with your reaction. Easy to spot - Bobby is blonde, young (25) and wearing a pink sport jacket. Recorded by something like 670 people around the world, well known, like Elvis, but no one ever came close to Bobby. Consensus is that this is Bobby"s song, and I agree! I believe, but I'm not sure, that I read that "Unchained Melody was the most recorded song ever, and also that it got the most air time.Happy Holidays Doc!
