After all these years, I still get chills when I hear this song ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Couple Fun Facts: They got their name from some black marines who saw them perform as the “Paramours” in 1963. They shouted, “that was righteous brothers!”, Sonny and Cher were part of the backing vocals, & last but not least, heir manager booked them into a black nightclub in Watts, California before they got big, & the patrons of the club started throwing things at them on stage when they saw they were white, & The Righteous Brothers didn't know what to do, so they just started singing, & all the patrons sat down with their mouths open, & wouldn't let them leave after that, & the term, Blue Eyed Soul, was introduced

Jamal, I am a 78 year old woman who lives in Canada. I had the privilege of seeing the Righteous Brothers at a nightclub
in Vancouver, B.C. In 1963. Sat in the front row. Went backstage and got their autographs. You cannot believe the power
those 2 young men had and the feeling in the room. Magical! God bless you for saying soul has no colour, it doesn’t.
When I hear them sing, I think of my late husband of 49 years. We had some good times listening and dancing to

Robert Hathfield voice, that pretty falsetto was angelic. This duo was very underated. Such versatility they possessed. Bill Medley baritone voice rich and haunting.

The true story is they were booked into a San Jose nightclub that was mostly black and the management was surprised when they arrived. They talked him into letting them perform and within a few minutes the crowd was calling out RIGHTEOUS, BROTHERS....
@James Reilly I saw them as often as possible. Bill Medley (deep voice) was incredible. Bobby Hatfield died from an OD on cocaine.
I heard it was outside the Marine base at San Diego.

This is a story of the weirdest racism in Rock n Roll history Inn 1962 they had a hit with a song called Latin Lupe Lu which was from an album they had recently released In those days the single was released prior to the album The song was a big hit but when the album came out everybody was shocked to see 2 white guys They stopped playing The Righteous Brothers Except for Black DJ's who stayed loyal I can still remember hearing the Black DJ'S saying Now for some Blue Eyed Soul when they played their records The Righteous Brothers fell off the charts until a young Phil Spector saw them on a TV show called Shin Dig He recorded this song which is by the way the most played record in the 20th century and the Brothers were once again back in the scene They never forgot the support they received from Black People

Phil Spector's production really gives it that classic 60's sound of meshing all kinds of backing singers & instruments that really compliments the two singers here.
"You've Lost That Loving Feeling" was the most played song of the 20th century.
I just recently learned the main singer is Bill Medley, the same guy that sang on the 80's song The Time of My Life from the movie Dirty Dancing

My wife who passed away 14 years ago sang background vocals for Bill Medey when he was touring in Hawaii years ago. They got their name while they were playing at a marine base in California. They were standing outside the club and one of the black soldiers walking in said hey…there’s my righteous brothers. The song in your video was the number one most played song on tv and radio in the 20th century.
the shorter Righteous Brother with the high voice is/was my cousin Bobby Hatfield.he passed away a week before i was to go see him.

When I was a teenager I'd hear this on my parents oldies station. I thought this was Motown until I was at least 30.
This was recorded in the mid 60's. Recording something like this with an orchestra and everything for a pop song is so much work. I'm not that guy that says there's no good music these days, but the effort that went into producing something like this isn't seen too often these days.
The mournful lamentation in the beginning leading up to the end of the song when the man breaks down losing all composure "Im begging you, please!" You can feel that deep in the heart.
One of the greatest song of all time and of the greatest recordings of all time. No one has come close to capturing the magic of this recording.
I'm loving these throwback vids. They are before my time but that is a period of real pure music.

The genre was called "blue-eyed soul" back in the day. And the righteous brothers were great no matter what label one slaps on them.
The greatest soul is timeless. This still gives me chills, nearly 55 years after I first heard it. Bill Medley and the late, great Bobby Hatfield. God bless them both.

The Brothers looked like FBI agents but put out here what was most likely the most powerful and soulful live performance ever... anywhere!
My first music memories are from the early 60s. (I’m old) Growing up, nobody gave a damn what race sang what. Charlie Pride, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Beatles, Motown, disco, heavy metal, prog rock, storyteller rock, whatever. The only thing that mattered was the music.

They used to play the “Rendevous Balllroom” Balboa Beach, Calif on weekends in 1960, I saw them regularly before anyone knew who they were.

Fact to note Cher was a young back up singer in the chorus for this performance. These guys were so dapper and their hallmark is total perfection for these recordings.
What's remarkable as well is that it was just this year that the song was surpassed as the most-played song in radio history.

I do wish bands and artists like this made a comeback. Guys like the Temptations, Stylistics, Righteous brothers, etc., all had music that you could feel and didn't need a video theme either. Their performance was enough for you to enjoy

Such a great song, and these two harmonized perfectly together. A moment in time...
The Righteous Brothers got their name from some black marines from camp Pendleton California, they were preforming in a bar and the marines said 'that's a righteous jacket... can I call you brother'? and the rest is history... true story.
Two things they got their name when they were performing in a predominantly black club and some one shouted out " Man you guys are righteous!!!" And listen to Patti LaBelle duet with Micheal McDonald " On my Own".
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are another great group from the 60s and 70s that belted out hits.
And their songs were also on the R&B charts too..
