      @@danieljandreas8392 what did Kobe better? Besides from punching Mike Bibby in the Playoffs and getting the call because of rigged games? Rings dont count if you win them in LA.
      All the advanced stats say that Harden is much better. Kobe was never even close to being the best player in the NBA. In the beginning (1996) Jordan, Puppen, Hakeem and Malone were the best, than Shaq and Duncan, Nowitzki in the mid 2000s and than lebron.
      He should have 0 mvps and zero defensiv all-nba First Team selections. His defensiv bpm shows that he was never a good defender. In his best years only slightly above average. Not even better than harden.

      For real. I rewatched that Toronto game where he scored 81 and I saw him playing hard defense, full effort type stuff. I looked back to see how many points he had at that point - 79. I've heard people cutting LeBron some slack for not playing hard defense because (paraphrasing multiple people's attitude/statements) "the offense is built around him and when you have to score 30 a game you gotta take it a little easy on the other side." Kobe going all out on defense when he already has 79 points but it's acceptable for LeBron to not play that much defense in a must-win game because he scored 25, gtfo. Kobe plays harder defense when he has 79 than LeBron does when he has 19 to the point that in a must-win game Kuzma has to literally shove his ass and force him to play D. As a Laker fan I don't care if LeBron gets burnt on D but ffs at least try, especially if you want to be in there with the great Lakers like Kobe, Kareem, Magic, etc and many people already assume that you're just here for Hollywood; put in that Kobe effort then you can have your murals and goat discussions and people won't be shouting "We want Kobe" during free-throws

    • @andrewliu111
      @andrewliu111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So you overrated him. I don't think he can do that in front of Kawahi or Durant. Let's be clear. The only two differences in today's game is just that there are more three-point shooting and there is usually only on big men on court. However, there are still many great defensive team and perimeter defender. I don't think Kobe will easily score 40 points above great defenders such as Draymond, Kawahi, Siekem, Paul George and so on. As to defend, there are so many mismatches now, I don't think he can guard bigger players such as Gainnis, Durant, George. What I don't like Kobe's fans ate that they always only talk about Kobe's great. They talk about Kobe scores 81points, 3 consecutive games scoring over 60points. Sure, that is impressive. However, in Kobe's career. He is just a mediocre average25 points player with only 45%of shooting. So if he has so many great shooting games, you can imagine, he must has even more bad games. Keep in mind, he never shoots over 47% in his career. There are tons of players who shoot better than him in his era, averages more points than him but been said not a great scorer as Kobe.

      Nowadays game, you really need more energy on offense than before. Today's game are faster than before. The opponent's size are smaller in the rim but bigger on perimeter so I say LeBron really needs more energy than Kobe on offense. And he does carry more offensive workloads and does more than Kobe. He averages more points, more assists than Kobe. And I don't really like you compare prime Kobe Bryant to the 15th and 16th season, the 33,34years old LeBron. At the age of 34, kobe is also not playing very good defense too though I admit he might not be that passive as LeBron. But I do believe prime LeBron, Miami LeBron is better defensively than Kobe. Remember he knockdown MVP Derrick Rose and Paul George. Remember before when none of the Cavs center can guard Dwight Howard but he take the charge and sucessfully guarded him in some games.

      Tavian Thomas you CLEARLY have no idea what you are talking about. Kobe shot 50 times and made 22 shots, thats shooting 44% which is almost half. Hes shot attempt to points are close because when u get foulded they dont count those as a shot attempt unless its a and1, kobe went to the line 12 times and only missed 2 attempts, kobe shot 44 % from the field and had only 2 turnovers. The only place he didnt shot good was at the 3point line, but again his overall fg% was 44 percent. He actually had a efficient game.

    99-00 season (first major steps toward handchecking removal)
    Handchecking had been slowed down to a small degree in the late 90s, but not anywhere close to the massive change that was introduced starting in 99/00.
    "In the backcourt, there is no contact with hands and forearms by defenders. In the frontcourt, there is no contact with hands and forearms by defenders except below the free throw line extended in which case the defender may only use his forearm."
    So by this point, handchecking is for all intents and purposed removed - "There is no contact with hands" and "the defender may only use his forearm" below the FT line extended.
    00-01 season - new rules that further decreased amount of contact allowed by a defender
    "No contact with either hands or forearms by defenders except in the frontcourt below the free throw line extended in which case the defender may use his forearm only."
    "Neither the offensive player nor the defender will be allowed to dislodge or displace a player who has legally obtained a position."
    "Defender may not use his forearm, shoulder, hip or hand to reroute or hold-up an offensive player going from point A to Point B or one who is attempting to come around a legal screen set by another offensive player."
    "Slowing or impeding the progress of the screener by grabbing, clutching, holding “chucking” or “wrapping up” is prohibited."
    "On the weakside, defenders must remain on the weakside outside the paint unless (i) they are double-teaming the ball, (ii) picking up a free cutter or (iii) closely guarding an offensive player."
    01-02 season - Addition of illegal defensive 3 seconds rules to weaken defenses even more.
    "A new defensive three-second rule will prohibit a defensive player from remaining in the lane for more than three consecutive seconds without closely guarding an offensive player."
    This rule makes it much easier to drive in the lane, because bigs can no longer camp out in the lane and deter drives to the basket like they did in the 80s and 90s.
    04-05 season
    "New rules were introduced to curtail hand-checking, clarify blocking fouls and call defensive three seconds to open up the game."
    "The truth is, it makes the game [where] players have to be more skillful. Nowadays, literally anybody can get out there and get to the basket and you can't touch anybody. Back then, if guys put their hands on you, you had to have the skill to be able to go both ways, change direction, post up, you had to have a mid-range game because you didn't want to go all the way to the basket because you would get knocked ass over tea kettle. So I think playing the game back then required MUCH MORE SKILL."

    People hates and downplays Kobe because they know Kobe is a one tough son of a gun (if not the toughest in NBA basketball that I've ever seen) but I think they do that because deep down they respected him and what he had giving the game.
    Ps: Kobe would totally score 100 if he does all the traveling/free throws Harden is doing.

  • @thereplay5929
    @thereplay5929 5 ปีที่แล้ว +127

    It's a stat-padding league now. Jordan could average a triple double for his career if he really wanted to, same with Kobe. In my opinion, today's guys think that if they put up triple doubles they're absolved from any criticism, especially if they don't win a ring.
    "oh he's gotta do all that for them to win. Look at what this guy is doing. It's never been done."
    Yeah, taking rebounds away from your big man and assists away from your point guard has never been done the way it has today.
    Lebron, Westbrook, Harden are perfect examples. Then they wonder why their teams struggle. You disrupt their flow to the game.
    "But he averages 35/10/10. GOAT."
    Yeah, at the expense of his teammates not being productive.

    • @thereplay5929
      @thereplay5929 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      CellGeist exactly. Also, everyone loves to bash the Warriors, and I’m a Lakers fan, but, the reason why they’re all All-Stars, is because they all play their positions/role so damn well that the team excels. KD isn’t out here trying to get 10-15 assists a game and 10+ rebounds. Draymond is trying to score 30 a game. Sure, there’s instances that the team needs that but they’re not trying to do it on a nightly basis.

    • @thereplay5929
      @thereplay5929 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Richy Rich we’ll look back at this era in 20 years and call it the stat padding era. There’s a reason why great players’ numbers go down when they play with Lebron. He’s taking them out of their game just to stuff the stat sheet.

    • @ThilanNana
      @ThilanNana 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Replay I totally understand where you are coming from but real talk coaches would not let him play like that if they didn’t think it was the best way to win. Plus he gets defensive rebounds with no expense to the team. The thunders win rate when Russ scores a thriller double is OVER 80%

    • @thereplay5929
      @thereplay5929 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThilanNana it’s just come playoff time those teammates won’t have a rhythm. Teams defend better and all of a sudden you have to rely on a guy who hasn’t had a consistent role in an offense and shit hits the fan. Look at HOU last year in the playoffs. Missed however many 3s. Then, you look at the Warriors and see how cohesive and well they know their role and is the reason why they’re always winning.

With the rule change, all the flopping foul calls he gets, the traveling/carrying he gets away with (look at the highlight at 2:11 with his one-handed cross-over), the offensive fouls he gets away with (2:23 pushing Lanzo off), AND not playing defense... shit he would be bouncing around the league avg 15 points at best with 7 turn-overs a game in Kobe's era.

      LeBron passed Kobe as soon as he won his 2nd ring because then he had just as many FMVPs and 4x as many MVPs, and he never played with anyone even close to Prime Shaq or a coach anywhere near the level of Phil.
      The only argument for Kobe over LeBron is that Shaq gift-wrapped 3 rings for him so he has *5 haha. Without a HOF center and Phil, Kobe missed the playoffs in his prime multiple times and got bounced in the first round multiple times.
      LeBron took a team of nobodies to a finals in his 2nd playoffs at 22 (beating the champion pistons that had dismantled the ‘04 Lakers with Kobe, Shaq, Malone, and Payton). LeBron has made the finals 8 straight years and taken 3 of the top 10 worst supporting casts ever to a finals. He has proven that regardless of who’s on his team and who’s coaching, he makes his team a contender every year, Kobe and MJ literally never even won a single playoff SERIES without Phil AND a HOF teammate.
