I'm definitely a perfectionist and I try to get these cars as close to how they left the factory as possible. They are 40 years old so I can't ever get them a hundred percent correct but I try to get them damn close. Trying to make them perfect is the fun part!
Well, pretty intricate task, I thought it's easier. Can't you tell, is this felt insulation easy to wet? It seems if water gets inside, through a widshield for instance, it would be hard to dry, maybe it's worth to replace it with some sythetic adhesive-based one?
Yeah you don't want the stuff to get wet but you don't need to replace that stuff you just need to make sure you have a good windshield gasket. If your car is getting wet under your dash you have bigger problems to deal with.
If they're blown we replace them. However believe it or not many of them are still absolutely fine they have very thick paper cones and are actually very good quality. Speakers can last a very very long time as long as you don't overdrive them and they are stored in moderate climates. For example look at the old fender amps from the late 1960's. You can easily find those with original speakers still in good condition. Look at all the stereo systems from the 1980s with the original speakers. If you take care of them they last a very very long time and there's no need to replace them. I actually had to replace them on my 1980 300sd after about 10 years of blasting music. I finally blew them. I think the majority of the demographic that persist these cars back in the day did not blast a lot of loud music. Keep in mind a lot of these cars were usually owned by wealthier older people. Not the typical crowd to blast stereos in cars.
I've ordered one of the dashes from turkey and yes they are good. They are actually original w123 dashes and they have just been recovered. They look nice.
@@woodsandbarclayit would be really nice if you would add a link or point us in the right direction to these remand dashboards from turkey. Some us are actually restoring our own W123's and would appreciate it, thank you
You have more patience than I do. Too many little things to deal with that I never dreamed would be involved with replacing the dash!
Oh yeah there's definitely a lot going on behind there.
I think it’s awesome you replace / repair all the little details that most would never see. It’s no surprise you can get top dollar for your cars!

I really enjoy these videos. Please keep them coming. Thanks!!
I'm actually sitting in front of the computer video editing right now.... I have enough videos coming to keep you entertained all year!
Really interesting and helpful video thanks, a new old stock dash for a W123 was an amazing find
;)
Perfect Job. 👍
I strive for perfection on every vehicle! We may not be able to get everything perfect but it's damn near close
@@woodsandbarclay If I were living in the states, my w123 would definitely be visiting your garage for overhaul. Greetings from Turkey.

Do you ever replace the speakers? I mean they are 40 years old lol. Or, has anyone ever asked you to before purchase/delivery?

Are there any good aftermarket dash replacements available? I have seen some from Turkey, but no one can say if they are any good.

@@a_life_painted_with_color this is not a remanufactured Dash this is an original Dash. However the guys in Turkey sell their stuff on eBay
@@woodsandbarclaythank you I'll look into that
That factory sticker on the glovebox triggers me how crooked it is. Lol. Something you would expect on GM junk.
Keep in mind these were just rolling down the assembly line so whoever was working that day just slapped it on there crooked.
