The Land Rover series was launched in April 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show and despite several refreshes over the years its origins are still obvious as no major design changes were made. After a continuous run of 67 years, production of the Land Rover Series ended on 29th January 2016 with a total of just over two million Land Rover Series and Defender models being built. The Defender model was in production for 25 years.
It is widely regarded that the best Defenders for daily driving are the post 2006-models which benefit from a number of improvements. Significant changes included replacing the engine for the more modern Ford Transit-sourced four-cylinder 2.4 litre 122bhp diesel engine with the smoother six speed gearbox.
