Montreal vs Quebec Nordiques has to be the most intense ever and where the two teams absolutely hated each other, even though it was relatively short lived compared to Montreal/Boston and Edmonton/Calgary rivalries. The Rangers and Islanders had a great rivalry too back in the 1980s, although not much hate. Toronto and Detroit also had a heated rivalry in the late 80s when Brophy was coaching Toronto and Jacques Demers for Detroit.
Montreal/Ottawa has become a bit of a rivalry, with the NHL Centennial Classic featuring both teams and the first ever NHL game in 1917 also featuring both teams. Edmonton/Dallas was something of a rivalry during the late 1990s and early 2000s. One of the biggest moments was Curtis Joseph making a big save in a 1997 playoff game that led to Todd Marchant's OT winner, propelling the Oilers to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1992. Dallas would win their second round match-up in 1998 followed by three straight first round victories between 1999 and 2001, and again in 2003. In a regular season game during the 2006-2007 season, Dallas led the Oilers by 1 in Edmonton with less than half a minute to go. Patrik Stefan stripped the puck away from an Oilers defenceman, and instead of shooting the puck into the empty net, Stefan showed the league and the fans why he was a draft bust. He waited until he was in the crease, then let the puck roll off his stick, and gave it away to Petr Sykora in a desperate pass attempt instead of holding it along the boards. The Oilers would score to tie the game, only for Dallas to win in OT. But since that game, these two teams don't have much animosity towards each other. Pittsburgh/Washington has only been a rivalry because of the Crosby/Ovechkin comparison, but that still doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
How did the Canadiens/Maple Leafs, the Battle of Alberta and the Red Wings/ Avalanche rivalries not make it into part 1? I get that the most of the rivalries covered exist from the early days of the NHL, but these 3 are definitely more 'heated' than most of those you cover.
Seriously. I live here in Alberta, and when you introduce yourself as a couple with an "inter-faith marriage" it means one of you is a Oilers fan and the other is a Flames fan. I've seen at least three fights start over the divide happen in my town of 6000
Born in 1960 Boston the Canadians were not liked here, but it's ironic because many bruins were Canadians back then, I played in Canadian cities in the 70's and we stayed with families that treated us very well, so even though it's a hockey thing, the players and families always respected each other, but in a bruins/Canadian game all bets were off.
Explain to me how Penguins-Flyers isn't on here. The sheer hatred there isn't reserved for hockey, it extends to everything and anything even remotely related to each other's cities.
What is also missing here is Detroit🇺🇲 and Toronto🇨🇦 that also dates back to the Original 6 era. Look unto Ontario Highway 401 you would see Michigan plates with Red Wings stickers driving to Toronto. Reverse is province of Ontario license plates on Interstate 75 around Detroit with Maple Leaf stickers. Another one is Battle of QEW Toronto Maple Leafs🇨🇦 versus Buffalo Sabers🇺🇲
If only he knew that mere hours after posting this, Brad Marchand would absolutely beat the stuffing out of Rem Pitlick after a dirty hit on Patrice Bergeron, further cementing the Bruins-Canadiens rivalry
Agreed. Would love another playoff Battle Of Ontario between the Leafs and Sens. The playoff series the two teams played in the past were always intense and fun.
@politicalbandwagon4989 that's the 417 Queensway. If you want an American team then it's the Detroit vs Toronto vs Montréal Canadiens lie along 401 A20 Motorway corridor that one dates back to the original six era.
Toronto and Ottawa was barely a rivalry; it was more of a free pass for the Leafs. It was great watching Sundin show up and Alfredsson slowly disappear. The only time anyone ever noticed Alfredsson in the playoffs is when he short the puck at Scott Niedermayer.
I think that in order to analyze rivalries, you can't just look at which team won some game seven game. You need to talk about the fan bases, the hatred, the cheap shots, and the unusually physical games.
Props to this guy for explaining the difference between the old Ottawa Senators and the new Senators (1992 expansion team). Too many idiots think they're the same team because the 1992 expansion team took the name.
Bruh Avalanche vs Red Wings is literally insanity. You gave that an honorable mention?!? Look up Fight Night At the Joe and you will see a true rivalry
@@humankirk9196 If nordiques were a team. Leafs and habs have been rivals since the beginning of the league. If nordiques were still a team then maybe. Edit: Leafs and habs and bruins
Avs and wings was the only reason I clicked on the video. Shocked it wasn’t here. Maybe you’re super young? I feel like anyone in the 90s wild have said it instantly

Rangers/Islanders isn't as big a rivalry as Rangers/Devils, even though the Islanders were in the league before the Devils franchise.

The Battle of Alberta is bigger than any of the featured rivalries . It's worth more than an 'honourable mention'!!
Id put it in 2nd behind Habs and Bruins, but yes, it deserved a spot
How fitting, considering there's a Bruins/Habs game tonight.
The bruins have an uncanny ability to make other franchises riot.

How about St. Louis and Chicago?
Was thinking the same… that rivalry was way nastier than Chicago/Detroit.

As a Calgary fan The Battle of Alberta but all time Boston vs Montreal will always be a classic.
bro forgot about oilers and flames, leafs and habs, avalanche and wings, penguins and flyers, leafs and bruins
If only he knew that mere hours after posting this, Brad Marchand would absolutely beat the stuffing out of Rem Pitlick after a dirty hit on Patrice Bergeron, further cementing the Bruins-Canadiens rivalry
Need the three-way California rivalry between the Kings, Sharks and Ducks.
How did Pittsburgh and Philadelphia not make it?
thats what i said
To have video footage from those early 1950 games would be so iconic. Can you imagine watching the guys who made the game what it is today???
You forgot the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs between baastaan and Montreal
Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa is kinda 1 big rivalry between the 3 teams being so close to eachother and all in the same division
I’m pretty excited to see the Montreal-Ottawa rivalry grow with the young cores they both have.
Agreed. Would love another playoff Battle Of Ontario between the Leafs and Sens. The playoff series the two teams played in the past were always intense and fun.

Yes definitely. Sequel video please

Richard was suspended for striking an NHL official.
One of these days Ottawa Senators will eventually beat Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs, time will tell

Seattle Kraken Vancouver Canucks Rivalry Is Real Bitter . And Florida Panthers And Boston Bruins Rivalry .
No Islanders/Rangers or Oilers/Flames?
Bruh you covered the Bruins vs Canadiens rivalry without mentioning Chara hospitalising Pacioretty? brutal.
I thought Chara killed him when I first saw it
How about the Tampa Bay Lightning vs the Florida Panthers this a hot rivalry these two teams hate each other!!!!
I'd say the Avalanche vs Red Wings is a better feud
The Battle of Alberta or The Battle of Ontario ? You decide. 😊
How about the Rangers vs the Islanders? Or the Rangers vs Jersey?
Also the panthers lightning
Bruh Avalanche vs Red Wings is literally insanity. You gave that an honorable mention?!? Look up Fight Night At the Joe and you will see a true rivalry
That's just an average Nordiques Habs game.
Look up Good Friday Massacre.
Ehrm, Rangers/Islanders anyone?
rangers and winning a cup that isnt during world war 2 biggest rivalry
The way the words keep flashing up on the screen is ANNOYING.
I would not put the sens and leafs on here over any of the honourable mentions.
Is it going to be Toronto Montreal because I think most fans of both teams would agree that's our biggest rivalries.
either that of leafs and boston, both rivalries being an original 6
Most Habs fans would say it is either the Nordiques or the Bruins. Not the Leafs.
