Tyrion does not kill a dozen trained knights in single combat, he defeats a few in the chaos of the battlefield by luck and chance, like bringing one down by stabbing the horse he is riding with a pointy helmet. He mostly kills untrained footsoldiers and that mostly by having way better armor and weapons as well as people like Bronn in his back.
