The Hardest Muay Thai Gym in Thailand: Jitmuangnon Gym

    Jitmuangnon Gym is well known for how hard they train their fighters. It is one of the biggest fight camps in Bangkok, and has produced many top fighters including Phetsiam, Peemai, and more recently Panpayak, Rodtang, Yodpanomrung, and Neunglanlek.
    Not many people know Panpayak in the west, but he is one of the most decorated Muay Thai fighters of all time, winning the prestigious Fighter of the Year award 3 times in a row.
    You may know Rodtang from his famous battle with Tenshin Nasukawa and his explosive fights in One Championship.
    The training program at Jitmuangnon is fairly old school, with a big focus on roadwork, endurance and conditioning.
    Here’s what a fighter’s typical training schedule looks like, 6 days a week.
    The morning starts at 5am with a 10-15km (around 6-9 miles) run. Back at the gym, they do bagwork and padwork rounds with the trainer, before the younger fighters go to school at 7:30am.
    After school in the afternoon, training starts at 3:30pm with a 5km (3 miles) run. Afternoon sessions are usually longer and more intense, with padwork lasting up to 5 rounds of 6 minutes, bagwork, clinching, physical conditioning, and ending with sprints. By the time training ends close to 7pm, the sun is setting. After a quick dinner, everyone goes to bed by 9 or 10pm.
    Behind the glamour of the stadium lights, this is the real life of a fighter. This short documentary gives you a peek into a typical afternoon training session, in the middle of a sweltering Bangkok afternoon. We also had a chat with one of the gym’s star fighters, Panpayak, and his feisty mom.
    Are Muay Thai fighters hard? Yes, absolutely. But they can be incredibly kind and gentle outside of the ring. We hope to explore more of the human aspects in Humans of Fighting in the future.

    I lived in Bangkok for a few months for work. I went into a snooker hall where I met an older Thai dude watching Muay Thai on a 12-15 inch TV. The fights were from a small village where the ring was home made, with actual ropes for ropes, no covering. Two fights that I watched were kids somewhere between 6-7 years old. They were wearing tiny gloves that looked like old leather bag gloves, no headgear, full contact. When a kid would get knocked down, the crowd and parents would simply yell for them to get up. The older dude I sat with said that this was the only thing that these kids would have a chance to make money with. Even at this age with betting taking place they were making money to help support the family and the hopes of being able to fight in the arenas. That is an entire different level of hungry to be a champion.

    I been at this gym for the last month Not many foreigners only 1-2 at a time. Usually 20-30+ thai fighters everyday. They don’t separate the foreigners. You get to clinch run do padwork with the thais. My vlog hasnt gotten to when I moved to this gym - a few weeks behind - Panpayak Kiewpayak Yodpanomrung Rodtang very really cool humble guys - everybody is encouraging as well good environment to be in. They have a facebook but its all thai so good luck. Maybe too hardcore if you outta the resort style gyms

      I think he's referring to the grappling Aspects and how savage the fights are. A lot of these Muay Thai fights in his 300 are 3-5 rounds of highly technical striking, the fighter may only absorb 3-4 hard kicks a round and some knees/head strikes and an elbow or two. Of course there are the barn burners in the higher levels but mma is definitely more dangerous if you ask me. It's way easier to get KOd, plus the fight continues on the ground, where a downed opponent can absorb heavy ground and pound blows, elbows, and then stand up again exhausted and absorb more strikes, go watch some pro Muay Thai fights and you'll see what i mean, the ko to decision ratio is even Lower. Just my two cents

    • @imawarrior313
      @imawarrior313 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      amdnivram hmm .. I thought wrestlers were some tough Mofo's too .. And plus muay thai is a part of MMA so i guess if u get a good well rounded base of MT and Wrestling and a bit of BJJ ull be fine

      If the gym I trained at is similar, they tend to do 3 rounds. Half way down from top position, then half way up from bottom position, then full push ups. We would do 35, 35, then 30. Idk if that's what they're doing now but I have/seen it done before :)

I stop play soccer because didn't want to injure their leg rip. Muay Thai is really something to condition your body well and it's good.

    I'm amused that Panpayak says MMA is more pain than Muay Thai. Especially when he shrugs off the damage from his 3 knockout losses (not that he's lost very often).

    • @xladenlight2809
      @xladenlight2809 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think he said it will be painful because it is a lot harder to block strikes with mma gloves. Maybe he had also watched ground and pound happpen in mma and got him thinking that it is too brutal...

    • @gabrielbutterfield6385
      @gabrielbutterfield6385 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Xladen Light I mean he fights in the smaller MMA gloves in one, if it is that then maybe he won’t fight in them in his next bout with them which is pretty soon so we’ll see. It’s probably ground and pound like u said or just grappling full stop but obviously idk

    • @mklip2001
      @mklip2001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xladenlight2809 Possibly. The smaller gloves could be part of it. I figured it would either be (a) the more diverse training being rough on his body, or (b) more uncertainty about what to defend and thus a higher risk of something landing much cleaner.

    • @LawrenceKenshin
      @LawrenceKenshin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      different sport with its own pain for sure. but muay thai probably more brutal. but for a grand master like him, not as much pain due to skill level. he'd be beginner in MMA!

    • @DavidCardamoneNinja
      @DavidCardamoneNinja 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The level changes and the vast techniques of MMA sometimes creates links in defense, thus more 'pain' compared to a well-disciplined muay thai warrior, who knows well his armor of defeense is.
