If you cried, HIT that like and share! :) From sleeping on the ring with only Thai pads as pillows, to becoming a 4X Lumpinee champion and gym owner - this is Lamnammoon Sor Sumalee’s incredible story. Lamnammoon is a legend from the golden era of Muay Thai, a period where fighters are built so unbelievably hardy, they make fighters today look soft. Lamnammoon is well known for his aggressive fight style and vicious knees. At 46 years of age this year, he can still inflict some serious damage with his knees - just take a look at his padwork in the video. It has always been Lamnammoon’s dream to have his own gym and build kids from impoverished families into world champions, just like how Muay Thai has changed his own life. But he quickly realizes how complex the role of a gym owner is versus that of a fighter. It is a life of ecstatic highs when his fighters win big fights, but also heartbreaking lows when tragedy struck the gym 2 years ago. The purpose of this interview is not to debate the exact details of how or why the tragedy happened, but to sympathize with the grief of a teacher’s loss. Lamnammoon is a wonderful teacher and a beautiful human being, a father and role model to his family and all the young fighters under his care. You can train with him at his gym in Ubon Ratchathani, a 1-hour domestic flight from Bangkok. facebook.com/lamnammoonmuaythai ----------------------------------- This project is part of a documentary series with Human of Fighting. It's a totally different mindset than in the west. There, life happens to you and you have much less control over that. Your destiny is set. They don't "act" like a fighter. Every ounce of their being is in the archetype. We value the individual much more in the west. Over there you don't choose who you marry or anything like that. Why? Because the emphasis is on the role they are in. In the west, the executive packs up his briefcase at night and goes home. Then the next day, he goes back and plays the role again. But, he always goes back home to take off that role. In those cultures, you don't play executive. You would be it at all times. Anyways, they place importance on the communal role you have more than the individual one.
About 10 years ago when my family was deported i lost everything including my home. But i always had Muay Thai. I too know what its like to have a ring as a bed and a thai pad as a pillow with my faithful pit bull by my side. Muay Thai one of the few sports that turn ordinary people into warriors.
Jose Rodriguez im turning 30 soon, had it in me ever since i saw bloodsport at the age of 6 but never had the heart to actually start and go for it due to the toxic childhood i had. As the years passed by life hit me hard and took away a lot of my heart and soul with it. Reading ur comment and especially the last line lit a spark in me and reminded me of who i really am .. I wanna tell you Jose that u have really motivated me and lifted my spirit. God bless you wherever you may be!! ❤️
What he said about foreigners sparring is so true. There are so many western gyms that have a culture of hard sparring, and you even see it amongst the MMA guys at Tiger - hitting very hard and landing shots that rock their sparring partners. It really takes the fun out of sparring and is a one-way ticket to CTE even if you're not fighting. Have fun in the gym and fight as hard as you can with heart in the ring! P.s who's cutting onions around here?
Yea it’s part of the western culture. Iron sharpens iron. Jens Pulver is the clearest case. Would spar with guys much heavier than him. And it was like one day he had no chin anymore. Started getting KO’d regularly when his chin was like granite early on. Then take GSP. Would only spar 5 rounds total for each fight.
Most of the Thais fight since they grew up... Foreigners need to practice a little bit harder sometimes because they usually start later and need to know how it feels like..but me personally prefer not to often and not to hard Sorry for my bad english

@@LawrenceKenshin Lawrence could you please tell me whether muay Thai fighters suffer from problems with their legs in later life such as arthritis due to constantly hitting their legs
Even the lines and wrinkles on his face speak to the vast and undiluted humilty that courses throughout the arteries and vains of this great mans soul. It's such a beautiful paradox, that the toughest men on this earth are also the kindest and most humble. Proving that vunerability when expressed honestly, is the opposite of weakness.
You can tell a lot about a person's personality when they are interrupted during something important by a dog or a child. Men of heart and good character take the interruption in stride, showing kindness, patience and calm; like Lamnamoon.
Jordan was cutting weight in Thailand and went out running with a sweat suit jacket on. He was to dehydrated and it caught up with about 100 or so metres away from the gym. Jordan was one of the toughest guys I have ever known and I know like the warrior he was he would have fought like a champion to the end
@@markgtba another question my friend do Thai boxers have problems with their legs in later life e.g. arthritis or leg pains due to all the years of conditioning etc
Lamnamoon aka Kru Yo is a great man. No matter what level you are at or what your goals are, he treats each individual at his camp with the attention and care as he would for his most experienced guys. If you can make the trip out to his gym, it really is something special.
I respect so much how there’s no ego with these guys. In a time of the ongoing soap opera that is the UFC with all its fake bravado to build fights into more than they need to be its so refreshing to watch the people and gyms featured on this channel. Thank you for teaching me the beauty of Muay Thai.
What fighting style are you training? I've always been interested since I tried Karate as a young'un, but I've never found a style that I want to learn. Muoy Tai looks interesting though.
I don't know nothing about Muay Thai but your documentaries are gold. They are true champions in their sport and in life, great philosophy. You have a true love for Muay Thai and a beautiful soul to film them as you do. Thank you Angie.
He ain’t wrong about the heart. I’ve seen loads of super talented fighters. Great athletes, super strong, quick, great technique.... but as soon as something went against them they quit.
Love this video. Sounds like the perfect blisful life, sleeping in the ring with your friends, living for something that you love and feel so deeply passionate about. I started muay thai around 3-4 years ago and It's basically my life now.
My coach and my training partners always tell me that I have really good technique and that I should compete, but I'm honestly just too scared. I grew up in a great environment and I've always been quite privileged, never really had any serious problems in my life and I've never had to face adversity like some others had to. I think because of that I just don't have the heart to fight. I have no problem admitting that, I guess it doesn't matter as much anyway as my true passion doesn't lie within martial arts, but it still sucks to know that I will never be as mentally strong and tough as these people. I have the greatest respect for anyone who does this for a living, it's unfathomable to me.
Maybe try to face those fears. That’s the only way we grow. If you’re afraid of spiders you gotta get with spiders. Don’t worry about winning and losing. That doesn’t matter.
F*cking hell this made me so emotional in a good way. Just put things into perspective. Rip to the fighter that passed away trying to make weight. Making weight for a fight should not be a skill or privelage for only the wealthy fighters with nutritionists, it should be made an easy task for all fighters. Thank you for the upload. Added to my sports playlist and inspiration playlist. Thumbs up.
Captivating, this isn't your typical Muay Thai video. It offers a different perspective and takes me beyond the fights, the techniques, the matchups, the individual fighters, and into the life of a fighter and what The Art really is all about. Thank you.
