High level Muay Thai champions - you’ve seen their brutalizing work in the ring, in highlight reels, and on Instagram. Do you wonder what made them who they are, and what they are like in person?
This documentary brings us to Sitjaopho Gym, a family-run gym in the countryside of Hua Hin owned by the decorated Sitjaopho twins, once stadium champions in Thailand.
Hua Hin doesn’t have a big stadium, and is not particularly known for producing fighters. But this pair of fighter-twins with an incredibly aesthetic style went on to claim belts from Lumpinee stadium. One half of the twins Phet-tho now teaches at the gym, while his brother Phet-eak lives in Sweden.
This feature showcases the training style, fighting philosophy, and guiding principles of the gym. Humble, unassuming, and thoughtful, it is an insightful and refreshing look of an ex-fighter who’d spent half his life fighting professionally.
This is a guest contribution by Angie, a Muay Thai student and (occasional) fighter based in SG. If you like this documentary style of visual and text observations of life in Muay Thai, give her a follow on IG @angiewon9 for similar content.

I trained at this gym for a few weeks over a year ago.
Eff, jaiphet, hinpjet and phetmai all really helped my technique out. Fantastic people, lots of Americans and Swedes. Even relative beginners have good technique and timing, there is tonnes of sparring and clinching along with pads every session and everyone there is there for the love of the sport. It is by far the best gym I’ve ever been at.
Only problem now is everyone knows about it.

There are tons of good muaythai camps in Thailand. Unfortunately, there are also many muaythai camps that are there only for tourists' money. Beware. If you train at camp that the owner is an ex muaythai fighter, chance is good that it will be an acceptable camp.

To the producer of this documentary on Sitjaopho... Thank you for highlighting his philosophy of acceptance. Mai pen rai. This was so moving. Sitjaopho loves people so much he wants to share this philosophy he practices to help them realize their full potential. This is a true martial arts teacher right here. I hope to meet them both one day.

Their is really something about Thailand, I’ve been there 5 times, was gonna go last April but changed my mind due to work opportunities, can’t go this year either because of covid 19. Thailand is a magical place, the culture, traditions, food Buddhism, people etc etc.. Every so often I look at the Thai map and see the places I’ve been and haven’t been, I feel a true love for the place and a longing to go back

amazing how humble this man is. .both he and his brother are so famous for their fighting and quickly corrected being considered the best buy his student and said they are the same as other trainers just different styles. very humble in his approach to life. love his thinking and his way of living his life. amazing documentary, Thank you for sharing it. Our american fighters can learn a lot from watching these humble yet fierce in the ring warriors and lose that chip on their shoulders about being the best this or that or how they gonna destroy this person or that person. You can be the best but be humble, they have to remember that they did not just wake up one day and emerge as the best, they had a whole team of people working them to be the best.

Also, it's so shocking to me as a western to see how this guys are humble and down to earth. Compare these guys to the ego driven boxing fighters bullshit. They're all about taunting, trash talking and disrespectfull acting in general. These Muay Thai guys are so much more badass fighters, yet they are so much cooler people.

An example of the attachment, letting go, and forgiveness principle is the very rewarding program they have in U.S.A. where a victim or parent of their murdered child meets the killer and talks, a therapeutic process where they find forgiveness and closure. Takes a lot of mental strength to get to that place.

Haha he is so truly, and truthfully humble that he is uncomfortable with the proposed idea that his gym is "the best" for TJ. The idea of "being the best" does not resonate with his way of thinking at all. This vid is a life lesson to every westerner...beautiful.

Thanks for posting this! I really needed to hear what Coach Phet-tho had to say, especially about attachment.
