      The only reason I put a second alternator in a car is to have a independent 120 volt system to the car it would be a 120 volt alternator

      @@jsil88dog if my info is correct, you don't add a second battery.. This is one of the reason for a 2nd alternator in my car, so i wouldn't have a 2nd battery being charged by just one alternator..
      I may be wrong but i believe its either 2 batteries vs one alt or 2 alternator vs 1 battery.. Alternator num 2 runs audio independently therefore not draggin on engine performamce ECT..
      Im learning. Don't quote me

    Interesting to see your install and busbars. I’m an electrician but not an auto electrician. Here because just mins ago I thought “What if I could install a second alternator in my 4x4.” Thanks for sharing proving this could be possible. I have some industrial deafness. When younger I loved subwoofers 🔊 in company provided work utilities - my boss didn’t 🤣

    The man has been bitten by the bass bug! It happened to me. The sensation of 20hz at 140db is pretty wicked! Bass adds a solid backbone to your tunes. Its not for everyone....

      @Rob James 140db will destroy your ear drums if it's something like 3000hz. But low frequencies don't really affect ear drums. You feel it in your body which can handle much much db than ears can.

    As an old electric-mekanic working at Scania-trucks in sweden we mounted double alternators in the trucks because they got more and more of gadgets that need electricity.But that seams foulich to do it så complicated as in the video .By that time it was just 35 amps each alternator Times24volt it makes 35 X24 =840 w.This was in the 1970:ties.

      John Smith why there is no fuse in between alts and battery and a fuse in the back battery ? get back to me whenever you can thanks

    • @BestPlconEarth50
      @BestPlconEarth50 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rob Echo Typically there is no fuse on the alt to battery wire because of the length which is short and its minimal routing through the chassis, also the alternator output can fluctuate a lot and sometimes you will see really high spikes. You could put a fuse on that link just be sure its probably 20 percent more than the rated output of your alternator.
      For the other part of the question its a necessity to use a fuse as close to the battery as possible when running any wire and not just the original battery you need a fuse after the oem battery then another fuse as close to the additional battery as possible then another fuse on the load wire of that battery. This assures that you will never have a shorted wire along the length of the run. If you were to short the wire from one battery to the other and had only one fuse the additional battery would short unless you can safely cut voltage to that via the second fuse.
      That is a pretty windy answer but I just wanna run home how important it is to have a fuse along any run without one you are more than likely to catch the vehicle on fire with a source more powerful than one of those silly fire extinguisher can extinguish. I don't know who said this but any thing than can go wrong will. Have a good day buddy.

    • @chrispy725
      @chrispy725 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that guage just has one connection for positive and one for negative. You can run the negative wire to the battery or a good clean piece of metal. The positive side needs to go to a fused positive source. You can run a wire to the battery but be sure to put a fuse in line with the wire a 5 amp fuse should be enough.

    WHERE DID THAT BLUE WIRE HOOK TO

  • @nathanmathews8416
    @nathanmathews8416 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you get both alternators to put out amps? Typically only one will put out power until its maxed out before the other steps in.

    • @paulplack490
      @paulplack490 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like the sound system is on a completely separate system with its own battery bank, independent from the vehicle's 12V system. The two alternators don't even "see" each other. The only things they have in common is ground and the ignition sense line to allow the aux alternator to start when the engine is running.

  • @raykupal
    @raykupal 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi newbie here. why do you need multiple wires running towards the same point from the bus?

    • @PURESOUND4
      @PURESOUND4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      raykupal - More wires allow more current to flow. In a setup like this, you want all that power to make it from the alternator to the amplifier.

    • @robecho2901
      @robecho2901 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PURESOUND4 You sound like you know what your talking about, help me , why doesn't he have fuses in between alts and battery and a fuse in the back battery? I thought you need fuses? weather its 1 alt or 2 , weather 1 0 gauge going to the back or more , I thought you need fuses? get back to me whenever you can thanks

    • @PURESOUND4
      @PURESOUND4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob Echo I'm not sure why, but most guys doing these videos don't put any fusing on their power leads. I personally believe you should fuse every hot lead within 12 inches the battery, because if that wire gets pinched or cut and touches metal (ground) then the battery is shorted and could explode. Just my 2 cents.

    What is the reason you go with 4 wires to that metal block, and then go forward with 4 wires instead of connect the 4 wires direct to the strip on the aternator

    • @gillmccuddy
      @gillmccuddy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i was wondering about that setup too... the metal block looked liked polished aluminum... dunno why any one would use that for a conductor,, mabe im wrong

    • @shimes424
      @shimes424 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      heat dissipation. as metal warms up, which happens when you pass electrons through it, resistance goes up

      Its a "bus" bar, and im assuming for their application, its just easier to make that many connections on a bus bar than directly to the b+ alternator terminal.

    how much more resistance is that on the belt when producing full power?

    • @paulplack490
      @paulplack490 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ circus, 3500 watts is about 5 HP, and the alternator is likely in the ballpark of 50% efficient. So the extra load on the belt could be as much as 10 HP.

    • @IFartOnMyNutz69
      @IFartOnMyNutz69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're just running the 1 alt, get a 400 amp alternator. Paired with 400ah battery, then your system will support a total wattage of 7920 watts. Your stock system uses some of that wattage, so running 6k to 6.5k watts on amps should be perfect match. You'll get more juice from running dual alts though, especially with 400ah of battery you already have
