    The long range and Performance have a bit of a edge when it comes to the out of sight sound system, to me anyway one of the most important parts of the car.

    I think one MAJOR difference you forgot to mention is the audio system as well… the M3P have a premium Audi system while the regular M3s don’t have the same system. And if I’m not mistaken the 2023 models also have a different system layout as well

    If you've never owned a performance ICE car the Model Y is an easy choice - if however you're a car enthusiast there is a big trade off when going to electric although there are perks as well. A simple breakdown:
    Pros to going Electric:
    - No more gas
    - Less maintenance and less time spent at dealers
    - Wake up every morning with a full tank (if you're able to charge at home)
    - Instant acceleration
    - Won't kill yourself if you leave the car running in the garage
    Cons:
    - Not as fun - though the instant acceleration is great to have, the loss of a visceral feeling whether provided by the sound or shifting will leave you somewhat bored. This is real, hence why Porsche is trying very hard to inject some sort of emotion into the Taycan and advertises it with the tag "Soul, electrified". Not to mention the old adage "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car", and the reality is acceleration is really great to have just to get you to a turn faster because that's where the fun lies.
    - Handling - you feel the full weight of the Model Y - it's a porker - the Model 3 is what you want if handling and steering is something you value.
    - Still not as easy to just hit the road and go on a long trip
    - Cost/time spent supercharging when traveling
    - Regarding the Long Range vs the Performance - the fact that they still share the same interior is a let down - make if feel special on the inside - seats, trim, steering wheel, SOMETHING.
    My brief .02 cents on the matter after owning both Tesla's and performance vehicles for years.

  • @accessaloha

    There's a significant difference between 3 seconds and 4+ seconds as it's very noticeable when talking how fast a car is. The M3P can clock in 2.98-3.00 seconds with a good launch and conditions. Slap on lighter wheels on the M3P and it'll yield better range on paper and in the real world, while improving on performance.

    • @jeffpicken5057
      @jeffpicken5057 ปีที่แล้ว

      But only if you really, truly care. What %age of the population would notice that difference? And that’s OK, right? We all buy things for different reasons.

    • @accessaloha
      @accessaloha ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jeffpicken5057 , That's true; however, my point is that for someone buying a performance model, it's logical to assume that they are in it for performance + being able to get better efficiency with lighter 18s or 19s = best of both worlds. (Better range + performance.)
      To your point, the majority should just buy the rwd, charge to 100% daily and call it a day. All three models have its place.

    • @accessaloha
      @accessaloha ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To add, the Uber 20s are terrible, heavy and a bad choice by tesla. I swapped mine out to forged 19s that weight 10lbs less and it's a night and day difference. I avg. 220-250 kw even with a heavy foot/pulls to 45-60 at times.

    • @iguacu3517
      @iguacu3517 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I take it you've driven both? Thanks, that's the kind of insight I'm looking for (Tesla here didn't have Performance models for test driving). I see a lot of people say acceleration on all Tesla models is plenty fast enough, but it's never clear whether those people have actually tried both or are just happy with what they ended up with.

    Well done video. I think the car cost is CHEAP - when you factor in it doesn’t run on gas, amazing tech and UI. Holds 5 adults and like you said does 0-60 in 3.1, 1/4 in 11.6 and 162 top speed. No other car can do that for the $

    As a retired school teacher, I went with the “poor man’s” Tesla, the 2021 SR+. I saved myself $10 large over the LR. $10,000.00.
    Two years later, I still haven’t come close to spending that ten grand on travel and trips. Even my cross country trip from CA to KY (5,500 miles) put just a dent in that.
    What did I give up? Nothing I’d complain about. I still get access to all the tech and the amazing supercharger system. I still get the same build quality (which for my car has been solid and reliable). I get all the OTA updates. AND I get to save the same turtles, dolphins, and elephants as the rest of the Tesla cult.
    Biggest difference I’ve found so far: I saved myself ten thousand dollars!

    I've had my Model 3 Performance for almost 2 years now, and living in NY, I IMMEDIATELY removed the 20s and put 18s on. Potholes are a bitch here. I also went with the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires since the 20s were summers. I don't drive in snow all that much but the summers aren't good in the cold. You can actually see the red Brembos a lot easier with the design of my 18s.

    Originally had Standard RWD on order about 6 months ago when I wanted to trade up my Corolla, but the wait was 6 months. I sprung for the Perf and took delivery the same week. Didn't think I'd fall in love, but it's such a great car. If you can charge at home or work without hassle, these are fantastic daily drivers. I downsized wheels to Titan7 TS-5 18" and that helped with the rough ride. I think a used 2020 LR at low 40s is the best deal you can get right now. If you drive hundreds of miles at a time regularly and you don't have access to L2 charging, would probably get a M340i xDrive instead in this price point.

  • @Bbronson
    @Bbronson 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For the used market the long range vs performance is around $2-4k difference. So if you’re factoring in acceleration boost it’s pretty even on price. Once the performance hits sub $25k they’re even closer because of the $4k used ev tax credit.
    I’d say a performance with lightweight 18s will handle much better then a Long range due to having thicker sway bars/different dampeners lighter aftermarket wheels and slightly lower. Being able to accelerate quicker and to stop quicker/more consistently is a huge plus. I’d say it’s 100% worth the upgrade price on the used market for how much more you’re getting vs what you’re paying.

If they can bump the range so it’s 267 at 80% then it would be a no brainer imo. But as it stands now the price gap is just too big. My 2023 M3P is very smooth and quiet. Zero rattles or creaks while driving on any type of surface. I just recently rode in a 2022 Model S Plaid and it was rattling and creaking like crazy even at low speed on good roads so my M3P felt more premium than that, believe it or not. I also noticed when looking at a 2021 M3P at carmax the spoiler had that issue of not sitting right by mine was absolutely perfect. I even pushed on it to try to get it to move and it wouldn’t. The interior fit and finish is flawless too. No wide panel gaps whatsoever, even the taillights were aligned perfectly. So I believe Tesla has improved immensely with their quality. People are going to be running out of things to joke about based on what I’m seeing with their newer models.

    It just seems kind of odd to test a 2021 and say that Tesla needs to improve fit and finish and noise when, from what I’ve seen, they already have. 2023 models are out now and they are definitely much improved. 2021’s were being built in 2020-2021 which was during the pandemic. Lots of manufactures were having quality control issues. Tesla seems to have sorted most of these at this point tho.

    Had mine since June. I’ve just past 20000km. I damaged 2 of the rims on a pothole like the 4th or 5th day I had the car. I’ve since put 18s on and the ride is so much better. I would honestly say it is too fast there is almost nowhere I can fully send it without risking a license suspension in a couple of seconds. My only real complaint is how bad the build is. So many rattles/creeks and now I’m getting wind noise from the passenger doors/seals. There are loose trim bits in the interior. I’d definitely get another Ev but it won’t be another Tesla. Anyhow unless you are going to race or something I’d say save your money and buy the Standard or Long range.

    range shmange. i've had the M3P since late 2020 (early 2021 model). why even use that term 'range'? I mean you get into a car with 1/4 tank and you need 1/2 tank to get to dest, you need gas. Same with Tesla except the "gas station" may be 10-20 miles away. range anxiety will disappear as a concept once every gas station has high-speed charging.
