- This is the abandoned Gravesend Maternity Hospital known as M Block. It was closed in 2004 after a new hospital was built nearby. It's due for demolition soon (as of 2018) so me and JC take a look at the Hammond and Champness lifts. It was a bit of challenge to see inside one of the cars but we managed to do it!

Went in the lift room today to look for myself and have to admit it is rather cool seeing all that stuff, we even bumped into some other explorers just as we went to go in. Scared the crap out of us though 😂
It seems to be a popular place at the moment! We went twice and including you had other explorers visit the other time too! 😄
morthren Probably everyone trying to get in there whilst it is open before the demolition 🤷🏻♂️ It was cool seeing all the equipment in there! I decided not to try what you did with the lift though 😂 One thing I’ll say is that the wheel crank is rather heavy god knows how you got that thing off the ground! We could see where it sat on the floor for ages so we put it back on the floor 😂

At this point anything about Lifts is a horror film for me.
What's the worst is that I have a old elevator in the building I live, and the staircase goes around the shaft, which doesn't have a solid wall, but see-through bars. Dx

That last bit scared me and I didn't even have headphones LOL! You are insanely brave - I would go nowhere near that building let alone go up to the motor room and into the lift - Great video morthren.
I was surprised how the lift motors and PLC were almost intact! Most buildings have had their lifts crashed and the motors have been sold for scrap metal. Is there a plan to demolish it soon?

All the wires have been snipped and stolen in the cabinet but the PLCs do look to be in good condition. I read that it's going to be demolished soon to make way for flats.
morthren Yes these abandoned building's and lifts don't last long in their original state. Are you going to ask for the buttons or something - It would be a shame if they were thrown away - I've never seen that kind of button before!!!
That is true. I knew the lifts hadn't been used since the place closed in 2004 so thought they would be in ok condition. There was a lot of water damaged where the motor room roof must have leaked and flooded down the shaft onto the lifts. I haven't seen those exact buttons either. Buildings are usually completely stripped inside prior to demolition so I'll have to see.

Would love seeing someone try to power this old thing up, even if it would be dangerous as hell to do so, considering state the lift is in.
I bet that shit would fire right up, the motor and gearbox are perfectly intact, along with the control boards
@@Minacious_Shenanigans Oh wow, would you look at that! It's wild to imagine this could still run somehow, just still highly doubt it would be any safe to actually use. Could as well also be just way slower even if not from broken parts, then like rust or maybe the state of the lift shaft itself. Thanks for the response, by the way!

At 4:39 there seems to be part of a traction machine sitting on the floor just to the left of the screen (the blue thing with the yellow pulley) did someone took one of the motors apart or was that a leftover of the modernization process in 1992 ?
I think it was left up there from a previous modernisation. The other motors were intact

So apparently, another explorer who was also recording(?) Made a huge bang with a padlock and the explorer just got out of the building and then morthren next and he saw the EXACT explorer who did make the bang.
Any updates on the demolition status of the building?
Nothing yet. They had the banners up showing the demolition company like it was about to happen... but it's still standing!

Did you get stuck at the elevator in that old hospital
If they wanted to reopen the building again they had to renovate and modernise the H+C lifts (KONE or Schindler please, NOT A GENERIC).
(But that is another story)
Other than "SCHINDLER, KONE", there is "AKE, VALTER", "TURKISH COMPANIES" and Quality, For example, we have "HANG ELEVATOR", We are Quality with our "ARKEL ARCODE PANEL", "KAYATEC, GENEMEK BUTTONS".

My fear of darkness when no one is around could never go in a abounded place. I would also never ride a elevator without any engineers around because I have a fear of getting stuck and not being rescued. I sometimes only ride elevators that are modern and fixed regularly or I would nope it and just leave or take the stairs If there are stairs and a elevator I take stairs but sometimes I make exceptions if it’s a cool elevator I did once at a hotel hard rock. It was a glowing mirror so I took that every time because staff was around and it was cool. I also have a fear of being stuck in small places or somewhere alone stuck in a big place myself

I work for a company that rips out lifts getting the motor, gearbox, bed plate and diversion wheels out can be challenging if no drop hatch or lifting beam to get past them nasty stairs from the motor room.

Did you film this on the 19th? If so what time Because me and my partner came to the hospital in the afternoon and heard people inside so we made a bang with a padlock on the staircase emergency exit to hear if they were still in there so that bang may have been us 😂
