I deffinatelly agree that otis is a really good elevator if you want one disigned to last so your only spending the thousands of dollars to maintain it and not replace it then otis is a good option
The early 1980s vintage Dover hydraulics at my old workplace were pretty rough sometimes. Building maintenance director was a knucklehead, and didn't care that the company that was contracted to perform monthly maintenance... often didn't set foot on the property for months at a time but still charged. Close to half of the elevators were always low on hydraulic fluid; so they lurched, shuddered, and made a lot of noise as the fluid cavitated. Guests would often jump and get this freaked out look on their face as one was struggling to level.
Wow. I would have loved to mess around with this but I don't know if I would ever have the nerve to ride it after being unused so long. What an awesome video!!!
Even though it isn’t running very well because it was sitting there for a long time, I’m surprised it still works. Also, I find it scary that you are touching the relays with your finger.

What an EPIC piece of vertical transportation history! This elevator (as you can tell by the fixtures and geared machine) it was installed by OTIS Elevator Company! One of my Top 3 most favourite elevator companies! It would be nice to convert this abandoned section of the hospital to something else! But keep the elevator original with a few tune-ups here and there such as the door operating system! Great video you guys! As long you were authorized to do this and know what you were doing... kudos to you! Thanks for uploading this!
This takes me back to when I had an abandoned building with the power left on. Both lifts were 60s otises similar to in this video, but they were 3 phase and no DC conversion. I went there every week. Both lifts were not working well and I did some fault finding and slowly worked out what the problems were. One lift was completely broke and wouldn't move no matter what. The other lift had a GAL door cam fault which caused the motor to keep trying to close the door. We managed to fix it but the fault kept returning. The GAL box needed replacing. In the end we took off the door belt to keep the door shut. The other fault it had was a dispatching fault. It would do one trip successful then it would shut down until the power was turned off and on. I blamed this on the other lift not working as the lifts had a complex relay system to share calls. In the end the building owner came and cut the cables of both lifts.
@@rai.shraavan It was loads of fun. We could do whatever experiments we felt like doing to the lifts. On the last days before the building was pulled down we put random objects in the pit and had the lift come down and crush it. Some of the best fun I have ever had. You can only do this sort of thing in a demolition site when the power is still on, which is rare. The things we crushed were turned into a pile of rubble days later, so what we did didn't effect anyone.
This is awesome! An elevator that is very old and locked off like this and is protected! It should definitely work just fine! Nice video and way to go on that awesome elevator find!
I used to keep a plastic chopstick with me at work if I needed a lift key (I worked at an elevator company) cause it definitely came in handy! Love this crusty old unit!

If you look closely through the window as the elevator is moving, it’s completely black instead of a white door. This means the door was most likely opened on 3 which signifies that someone defeated the door mechanism for it to run with the door open which is incredibly dangerous.
