I was surprised to see that drive unit model at 12:56 This car seems like an ideal application for the Lucid single motor rear drive unit. Those are becoming available to other manufacturers, can be speced up to 670hp, are much more compact, and allow equal length axle shafts. Using offset rather than coaxial drive units not only take up more space, they are much heavier.
Some excellent questions from Matt and some thoughtful, considered responses from the Caterham guys. I love the approach of not having marketing-lead design and of minimising the number of cooks in the design kitchen - just look at the focus and purity that that approach results in!!! The internal and external aesthetics of this car are fab IMO.

That is a very beautiful car. More so than most supercars. And only a fraction of the price. Minimalistic approach. Practical design. Very nice indeed.
This is interesting. For a while now cars have been getting more complicated and more expensive. I’ve predicted a return to simplicity, at least for cheaper cars. While this is simple for a different reason, I can see a lot of these design principles making its way to regular cars, especially the interior. Caterham really should get rid of the electrically adjustable seats though.
That interior is awesome. Actual gauges, buttons, switches, stalks and a nice cockpit for the driver. This touch screen trend is a bloody joke, makes everything look and feel cheap. Not just on Tesla, but Mercedes etc. too.
@@simon_mbuguauntil you want to use it and it falls apart. McLaren has great performance (for a lot of money), but shit as hell quality. What Porsche does best ist near perfect driving dynamics in a durable daily drivable car that just works.
it's definitely not a Porsche killer, their customers are all into golf and want fancy luxury crap that makes newer 911 not as good as classic ones. This is an option for ppl who want Singer Porsche but can't afford one.
I love the concept of performance versions having different battery technology. What a novel take yet an amazing solution to offering a vehicle at different price points with different performances; no different than the Mustang being offered with a 4-cylinder and V8 options.
The problem of the sterile, homogenous drivetrain is still there. But at least some companies are trying to make involving cars not just relying on 0-60 times
One of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen ! My recommendations (understand - simple, light, fun) …. 1. Cameras instead of side mirrors - even sexier. 2. All wheel drive w/ torque vectoring 3. 0-60 mph in 3 secs 4. 325 mile range 5. Boot back wall can come down to extend into behind seats 6. Has to use Tesla charging standard natively 7. Fast charging 8. If everyday driver then really comfy seats - possibly vent/message. 9. Different trims with higher trim having high end components/ quality if want to spend more 10. Bigger apple play screen 11. Right side driver … Ship USA
The one bit about the car I don't like is the rear. Something about it just doesn't feel like it fits the rest of the car imo. Everything outside of that is beautiful.
Honestly I love it ,it gives me Aston Martin vibes ,not gonna lie its one of the most beautiful EV I've seen ,love the seating arrangement and internal space & the dash is amazing ,the only problem I have about it is I gotta wait for 2026 for it😭
This vehicle is a piece of art, my compliments to the designer. as a designer I can say that I would not change anything about this design, except the size of the headlights which are perfect in design and the shape which fits perfectly with the bodywork but I would make them just a little smaller in size to make the front look even more imposing. and the rear part I would change the flat part and make it more rounded to match the style of the sides and the design of the rear lights I would do it with a little more inspiration, they are a little monotonous. for the rest really compliments..

@lewischime5737 It's supposed to be a "LIGHT" Sports car.
@@drekipookiebear what about the dodge viper though?
@@drekipookiebearit can still have that and be light
10:45 Bentley Bacalar, Bentayga, and Continental
Dammmmmmmmmm if they get the range right could be sick. Problem will be manufacturing it....
ALLELUJAAAA!! Finally a good looking electric car! Thanks Caterham
It’s from the right company if you want fun driving 👍
The interior is a BACK TO THE GOLDEN ERA OF GT SPIRIT with a new interpretation. GORGEOUS PROTO...........................THANKS MAT 🤟
A light EV is truly a dream come true. What world are we living in?
New battery tech and every other things will only get more efficient and better with time.
@@AnonymousGuy05Yeah true

See the 2008 tesla roadster more power similar range and weight as this.
@@Markcain268and it’s happening, year after year after year lol
The rear wheel arch (from the frontal side view) is giving me Aston Martin Vantage vibes.
None of the cars touted as 911 killers have ever been 911 killers. Even Porsche's own efforts.
You are wrong, McLaren is the true Porsche killer
@@simon_mbuguauntil you want to use it and it falls apart. McLaren has great performance (for a lot of money), but shit as hell quality.
What Porsche does best ist near perfect driving dynamics in a durable daily drivable car that just works.
it's definitely not a Porsche killer, their customers are all into golf and want fancy luxury crap that makes newer 911 not as good as classic ones. This is an option for ppl who want Singer Porsche but can't afford one.
@@simon_mbugua, you can also throw in the latest NSX and any of the various iterations of the Corvette C8... Superior on every level...
Porsche will kill themselves soon with how heavy the 911 is becoming. This car is for a different demographic.
3 years to save money for this, it looks so good
What a beautiful Aston Martin!
2. All wheel drive w/ torque vectoring
3. 0-60 mph in 3 secs
4. 325 mile range
5. Boot back wall can come down to extend into behind seats
6. Has to use Tesla charging standard natively
7. Fast charging
8. If everyday driver then really comfy seats - possibly vent/message.
9. Different trims with higher trim having high end components/ quality if want to spend more
10. Bigger apple play screen
11. Right side driver … Ship USA
The one bit about the car I don't like is the rear. Something about it just doesn't feel like it fits the rest of the car imo. Everything outside of that is beautiful.
Honestly I love it ,it gives me Aston Martin vibes ,not gonna lie its one of the most beautiful EV I've seen ,love the seating arrangement and internal space & the dash is amazing ,the only problem I have about it is I gotta wait for 2026 for it😭
Front looks like a Cayman. 2014 gen. Beautiful.
Didnt like the taillights until the explanation. Now its an easy 100k€ buy. Maybe small range extender in the front later. Mazda rotary one prbly.
Wow such a futuristic car, actual switches which do things, perfect
This vehicle is a piece of art, my compliments to the designer. as a designer I can say that I would not change anything about this design, except the size of the headlights which are perfect in design and the shape which fits perfectly with the bodywork but I would make them just a little smaller in size to make the front look even more imposing. and the rear part I would change the flat part and make it more rounded to match the style of the sides and the design of the rear lights I would do it with a little more inspiration, they are a little monotonous. for the rest really compliments..
Betteridge's Law of Headlines tells us the answer: a very unequivocal "NO!"
Love these videos of Matt doing a deep dive with one of the designers/team leaders/etc. Of the car theyve built.
Man I would love one of these! Lotus and Caterham have done some impressive stuff recently.
So Caterham is building a Lotus with Aston design vibes.
It's amazing how a simple car actually has real simple man that explain it to normal people with normal language. Great video
