Here’s the real problem with EVs, and I’m not saying this as some big EV-hater… But with a car this beautiful, this thoughtful, and made by Caterham, can you imagine how much MORE excited we’d all be if it just had a great ICE in it? Imagine… a Caterham that’s “practical.” Sold. I’ve driven all the mainstream “performance” EVs, and no matter how good they can be, I just never connect with them. For example, I loved the Taycans performance and handling, cool looking thing too, but when I got out of it, I just missed my 911. It’s not just the weight or the sound… The internal combustion engine just has a soul, as cliche as that sounds. Hell, even sitting in an electric gokart versus gas, the electric one can be quicker, but it’s not the same. It’s like wearing a digital watch versus a mechanical watch… In the most subtle ways, the gears vibrating and little imperfect ticks make a mechanical object feel alive. It’s kinetic, and we ground ourselves to kinetic things. We don’t keep our old iPhones, we trade them in without hesitation - no sentimental worries at all. But some old relic phone that doesn’t even work anymore that was from generations ago? We put it on a shelf as decoration and still somehow we feel a connection. MY MAIN POINT IS, even without driving it, don’t we all just know this car would be more fun and more connected with a living, breathing motor in it, no matter how good of an EV it may be? As an EV, it will peak some enthusiasts’ curiosity. But as an ICE car, even with a 4 pot, we’d be throwing money at it.
Reminds me of a Ginetta, I really like this, maybe the first EV that actually interests me (besides the mcmurtry). Also i think we already have a solution to the design constraints imposed by license plates, vinyl.
One of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen ! My recommendations (understand - simple, light, fun) …. 1. Cameras instead of side mirrors - even sexier. 2. All wheel drive w/ torque vectoring 3. 0-60 mph in 3 secs 4. 325 mile range 5. Boot back wall can come down to extend into behind seats 6. Has to use Tesla charging standard natively 7. Fast charging 8. If everyday driver then really comfy seats - possibly vent/message. 9. Different trims with higher trim having high end components/ quality if want to spend more 10. Bigger apple play screen 11. Right side driver … Ship USA
They are pricing this at 80,000 but my GR86 cost me 30,000. Has a gearstick, ICE and aural pleasure from that engine. It can even just about fit two people in the back! The power to weight is very similar too.

This is interesting. For a while now cars have been getting more complicated and more expensive. I’ve predicted a return to simplicity, at least for cheaper cars. While this is simple for a different reason, I can see a lot of these design principles making its way to regular cars, especially the interior. Caterham really should get rid of the electrically adjustable seats though.
This is an amazing looking car, inside and out. Really liking the styling of the body and the lights being something a little different but not too different like some brands are trying to do. If this goes to production looking like this and being a fun car then I can see it doing well.
Yeah this looks like a fUcktonne of fun; I’m not into EV’s, but I’d give this a chance for sure - how exciting! 🥳👌🏼 Proper boss design, congratulations, Caterham, I can’t wait to see one/hopefully pilot one! That front end is all OG Caterham to my eye, gorgeous! 🥰😈😂😁👌🏼
Some excellent questions from Matt and some thoughtful, considered responses from the Caterham guys. I love the approach of not having marketing-lead design and of minimising the number of cooks in the design kitchen - just look at the focus and purity that that approach results in!!! The internal and external aesthetics of this car are fab IMO.

@@simon_mbugua, you can also throw in the latest NSX and any of the various iterations of the Corvette C8... Superior on every level...
Porsche will kill themselves soon with how heavy the 911 is becoming. This car is for a different demographic.
3 years to save money for this, it looks so good
Front Looks like the jaguar cx75 ( or something) I loved it
That's so spot on! I've been thinking why I liked it that much
This thing looks so good! I love how simple they made everything. Honda should do this for another S2K, but with a potent hybrid drivetrain.
Vinyl is not legal though
One of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen ! My recommendations (understand - simple, light, fun) ….
1. Cameras instead of side mirrors - even sexier.
2. All wheel drive w/ torque vectoring
3. 0-60 mph in 3 secs
4. 325 mile range
5. Boot back wall can come down to extend into behind seats
6. Has to use Tesla charging standard natively
7. Fast charging
8. If everyday driver then really comfy seats - possibly vent/message.
9. Different trims with higher trim having high end components/ quality if want to spend more
10. Bigger apple play screen
11. Right side driver … Ship USA
Damn that designer is one highly intelligent man wish Id love to talk about cars with him😂
At first glance I thought Mazda had introduced the new MX-5 ;-)
I saw this at Goodwood and I was very impressed. Excited to see what comes of this.
They are pricing this at 80,000 but my GR86 cost me 30,000. Has a gearstick, ICE and aural pleasure from that engine. It can even just about fit two people in the back! The power to weight is very similar too.
And much better range, too
At this stage this would be the only ev i would ever consider. Great design from Caterham
Nothing will ever replace the roar & vibration of a petrol engine, and the feel of the clutch. You’ll never be able to fake it properly either.
Beautiful concept. Looks like a porsche mixed with Lotus. Was watching with the wife and when you said “a divorced dad” she was saying the *exact same*🤣
The French making an electric car, what could possibly go wrong
I love this clean styling. If I had the money I’d be putting down a deposit.
Honestly I love it ,it gives me Aston Martin vibes ,not gonna lie its one of the most beautiful EV I've seen ,love the seating arrangement and internal space & the dash is amazing ,the only problem I have about it is I gotta wait for 2026 for it😭
A light EV is truly a dream come true. What world are we living in?
New battery tech and every other things will only get more efficient and better with time.
@@AnonymousGuy05Yeah true
@@AnonymousGuy05 so i keep hearing, year after year after year lol
See the 2008 tesla roadster more power similar range and weight as this.
@@Markcain268and it’s happening, year after year after year lol
Wait ... it does look like a Porsche. But what happend with the rear? Did some kid design the rear?
It’s from the right company if you want fun driving 👍
The rear wheel arch (from the frontal side view) is giving me Aston Martin Vantage vibes.
This is interesting. For a while now cars have been getting more complicated and more expensive. I’ve predicted a return to simplicity, at least for cheaper cars. While this is simple for a different reason, I can see a lot of these design principles making its way to regular cars, especially the interior. Caterham really should get rid of the electrically adjustable seats though.
the PERFECT interior (pretty gauges, manual switchgear for aircon, carplay) - FERRARI, TAKE NOTE
This is a great concept car. It looks great. It would be fairly practical and the price isn’t outrageous.
My god its so beautiful, i just dont accept the rear lights, otherwise it would be a 9.5 easily
This is an amazing looking car, inside and out. Really liking the styling of the body and the lights being something a little different but not too different like some brands are trying to do. If this goes to production looking like this and being a fun car then I can see it doing well.
It looks just like a porsche from the front it isn't different at all
I want one. Simple, stylish, and looks to do what it says on the box. Not gimmicky like a Tesla with farts etc.
The black inside of the head lights are so unique 😊
Dammmmmmmmmm if they get the range right could be sick. Problem will be manufacturing it....
Love it, hopefully it drives like a Caterham too
Beutiful car!
But I won't be mad if would come with a turbo V6 as well :)
Good step in the right direction though.
Fantastic Video as always
Twin supercharged v10 won't be bad either
@lewischime5737 It's supposed to be a "LIGHT" Sports car.
@@drekipookiebear what about the dodge viper though?
@@drekipookiebearit can still have that and be light
Some excellent questions from Matt and some thoughtful, considered responses from the Caterham guys. I love the approach of not having marketing-lead design and of minimising the number of cooks in the design kitchen - just look at the focus and purity that that approach results in!!! The internal and external aesthetics of this car are fab IMO.
What a beautiful Aston Martin!
Finally, we have it - an electric car that's lightweight and designed for people who enjoy driving! Genuinely going to start saving for one if the final product is anything like this concept!
I'm also impressed that a small company like Caterham has beaten both Porsche and Alpine to the punch.
