The Best Sports Car In The World - Porsche 911 S/T

- 2 Jasons 1 Car is back, and we're driving the new Porsche 911 S/T!
The manual-only 911 S/T is the GT3 RS for the road - as good as it gets!
Subscribe to Engineering Explained for more videos! - goo.gl/VZstk7
The Porsche 911 S/T is the best car I've ever driven, and I don't say that lightly. It's a pure driver's car through and through, with a very clear purpose executed perfectly. What makes it such an exceptional driver? The Porsche 911 GT3 is a solid staring point - 911 GT3 RS - even better. But the GT3 RS is the ultimate track going Porsche. Transform it into the ultimate road going Porsche, and you end up with the 911 S/T.
The 911 S/T is special - very special, and the video dives into all the cool technical changes that make it work. From the 6-speed manual only transmission, to the lightweight single-mass flywheel & clutch, to the 4.0L boxer engine lifted from the GT3 RS, to the magnesium wheels, it does everything to make the car lighter, more powerful, and as exciting of a road car as you can get. Bravo Porsche - now make more of them!

Thank y'all for joining my last video of the year! I also appreciate Jason joining in, and all the kind words y'all have shared regarding 2J1C on the previous Lucid episode. Jason is a busy dude, but when we can manage to get on similar press launches, I'm happy to try and get a few more of these style videos in. Happy New Year to all - let's do this 2024!!
Lucid Sapphire 2J1C - th-cam.com/video/Via70c8rOOY/w-d-xo.html
Would love a comparison with the ST to a Lexus LFA.
@@andrewoneill144add also the 1998 Nissan R390GT1 ROAD CAR.
When will you drive a Panoz or Saleen S7?
@17:10 Thank you for the freedom friendly gearing table! 🇺🇸🦅 🦅 🦅🇺🇸
YES YES YES YES YES YES U ACTUALLY DID IT EPISODE 2 BRO U R THE BEST GOOD JOB GUYS IM WAITING FOR EPISODE 5 OK? BROOO IM GONA WATCH THIS SO MUCH RN
I guess this is what the youtube multiverse looks like. The crossover to save it all.
There can be only one, highlander.
It's always nice when the ones from the channels we like get together for more entertaining (not this Jason, he does the educational part - no shade thrown, like his channel) content.
I laughed SO HARD when they cut to James duct taping the knife to the gun. This video is already a classic.
Huh
from jimmy & timmy to this
Single handedly one of the best crossover episodes known to man
Hahah appreciate it, was fun having them all involved!
Edit: Adding that there's no better crossover than the Crosstrek.
@@EngineeringExplained perhaps we can see the "other" Jason's prowess with a whiteboard marker?🤔😎
AND I'M JAMES!
The range and depth of Cammisas car knowledge is extremely impressive. From manifold resonance to NHTSA tests, he has a good understanding of very obscure issues.
I discovered nerdy Jason about 7 years ago. I discovered the cool Jason about 2 years ago. Seeing them together is just a gift that keeps on giving. 2J1C is a great format!
Asked mom and she assured me I'm the cool one - nice!
@@EngineeringExplained But I prefer the nerdy one!
Lol
Both jasons are 100% full nerd, which i consider high praise
Wait… Which is which? They’re both nerdy (and cool) just in different ways.
I love how Jason was repeatedly looking at the driver's side, salivating, because he wanted so badly to be the one driving, lol! Truly an amazing, if unobtainable, piece of engineering.
We both drove for fun for about 30 mins each, before starting the cameras to give our impressions. But once the cameras were off, yeah, we both wanted back in the driver's seat!
This is so funny, I was sure he's gonna interrupt other Jason and make some comments about wasting such a good road or revs beeing to low ;dd
@@deXXXXter2very funny but also very cool all the same.
It would have been less jarring if Camissa did half of the driving.
30 seconds in and I'm laughing. This is exactly what Jason brought up in the I'm sorry podcast with Matt last week. As car enthusiasts and car entertainment. We are not in competition with each other. We are here for the benefit of the viewer. I love these crossovers James is a national treasure! 😂😂
Hahaha, James is amazing - thanks for joining in to watch!
Can you please tell what's the podcast
Is it available on TH-cam
@@vmkrishnareddytumati3406 it's on the Smoking tire podcast TH-cam channel, uploaded about 10 days ago
James is a national treasure....just not for our nation.
@@vmkrishnareddytumati3406 I think he is referring to The Smoking Tire podcast.
Camissa really plays off of you so well, this is probably the best format you've ever had on your channel. He gives a voice to your audience, contributing both educational and entertainment value.
He's very good at balancing the social aspect of a channel, rather than focusing purely on engineering. I agree, a great addition for a car review!
Seriously. This needs to be a channel on its own.
Ditto!
Imagine if they got their hands on a T.50 and found a third Jason.
T.50 is the dream!!
GET DEREK PLEASE
“It’s pronounced Jyphen”

LENO!
Jay, Jason and Jason.
If anyone can get his hands on one for a video it’s him.
The two legendary Jason's together is great and fun, plus throwing in the Thomas and james from throttle house made my day. Thanks to all of you
Throttle house has really stepped up their game.
Also more Jason^2 action in the future, thanks.
They're the top - no doubt! I love a good jab, I'm not here to compete haha.
I saw the first S/T testing in Manhattan Beach about a month or so ago, I gave the driver a thumbs up and he revved it mid traffic. Instantly fell in love with it.
Absolutely brilliant... The car, and more importantly, the Jason collaboration. Please do this again soon
Thank you - happy to hear it!!
Definitely my favourite gearhead duo. Looking forward to this!

@Snowkone81 yeah I would not put any one duo in absolute 1st place. This quad colab... well make it a pentagon with Randy... hexagon with Derek...
Not even a minute in and im laughing. Was not expecting that ThrottleHouse cameo. You all should regularly do content.
Wow. This particular video, is the exact essence of what you described this car to be. You guys are funny, and work so well together, mostly, though…I absolutely need the engineering aspect, I can only watch so many “car reviews” before my brain turns to apple sauce.
So you’ve hit that sweet spot. And seeing as that Jason is my all time favorite, I don’t know what more I could ask for…uh maybe film it in Canada?
Rounding out the year with an amazing episode. 2J1C is a huge hit!
In this set up, Jason in certainly my favourite.
P.s. amazing editing btw! I truly appreciate the tiny added photos and details.
Someone complimented my editing! 😊😊
I never tire of the cameos TH and the Jason’s do for each others work lol
I watch a LOT of automotive YTers, and this was genuinely one of (possibly THE) most enjoyable, fun, engaging rerviews I've ever watched! Tha said, what a shame more people can't experience the 911 S/T firsthand.
With a starting price of $290k, no wonder people can't experience this car. Hey the regular plain jane 911 starts at just $115k. I used to own an older 911 when they were affordable; not any more. That is why I'll stick with my 2023 Camaro ZL1. Lot's of bang for the buck.
Hell yeah, MOAR!!! 2 Jasons, 1 Car should be an entire review series on EVERY NEW MANUAL car sold in the USA. Love the seemingly raw, "unedited" feel of this conversation between two incredibly knowledgeable Manual Elitist enthusiasts! Y'all almost make me want to trade in my 2023 CT4-V Blackwing 6MT for one of these S/T's.
The dual camera perspective makes this even better. Nice scenery too .
The S/T is unbelievable , and I know this has been said and turned out false numerous times already but it might be the last manual NA "lightweight" high rev 911...
Until they best it again. (I mean, would it be a problem to make a logical gearing and not sell it in cali ? Just make the best car you can and ignore the naysayers :P)
GOD I LOVE THESE TWO!!! More please
Thank you!! Jason is a busy dude but I'm gonna try and make a few more of these happen next year!
@@EngineeringExplainedyou better! (Not threatening)
@@EngineeringExplained please do that! 😊
Okay, this needs to happen more. These 2 together are great. Nothing better than a couple knowledgeable car guys talking about a cool car. More please
What a superb video of a fantastic car with a top combo of hosts! Haven't seen such an entertaining video with so many interesting facts and numbers, maybe ever. This was a top piece of motoring journalism. This video was as good as the 911 S/T. Bravo!👏
Such a wonderful comment, thank you!!
Saw this exact car at a resort in St. Helena and spent 10 minutes just looking at it... So many fascinating details and a color that commands attention for the right reasons.
If I had also seen the two Jasons walking up to it... I would have gone FERAL lol
2:31 really nice of that truck to let you pass! And incredible, magnificent 911.
It's fun just watching both of you smile every time Jason gooses the throttle and you feel that instant RPM.
I just love these 2 guys! This is the best car show with both amazing Jasons talking to each other
Thank you, both of you, and everyone behind the sceens helping these two individuals with what they do. ❤❤
Happy new year!🎉🎉
It's such a pleasure to see you both in such cooperation!!! 🎉
Thank you for your hard work and honesty!
“Hulk suit.” I’ve said for years that driving an excellent car is more like wearing a mechanical suit than driving, but this is the first time I’ve heard someone (mostly) agree with me. Thank you!
Thanks for the info. I am one of the lucky folks that has an S/T ordered, thanks to reviews like this I am even more excited for this masterpiece to arrive. Can’t wait
Wow, congrats! You must be a Porsche regular customer? I can't afford an S/T, but a GT3 may be possible, except they're unobtainable as well. A dealer told me a couple weeks ago ANY 911 is a 4+ year wait. I find that hard to fathom, perhaps he was joking?
Congrats and wish you all the best with it! What spec did you do?
@@MarkLRandall. Yes regular customer. It’s strange because before Covid hit you could go to any Porsches dealer and find 911s on the lot. For some reason once Covid started everyone wanted a 911. Things get blamed on parts shortages, blah blah, but the numbers don’t show that as total built didn’t drop. Demand spiked

You Know Honestly as A 21 WRX STI owner and a car enthusiast I just love the fact that You gentlemen keep the car culture alive
I keep hitting the like button, but it just keeps toggling back and forth. Three of my favorite automotive channels playing together ... Wonderful! ... and hilarious. Thanks very much for not insisting on working in silos. The whole is indeed greater than the sum of the parts. Loving it.
This was fun and informative to watch. Love watching both of you for this video was a good way to start my day!
And I'm James 😂
F Me! I wish!

Love this channel. The Jason from Hagerty cross over is epic. Well done fellas. Hats off to both of you.
Just loved this. My fave TH-cambers in person and also via cameo. What a great way to end 2023 and what a time to be alive!!!
Brilliant duo! Great fun.... do more dudes. You should swap seats half way so we can see each in suffering passenger mode.
Actually that's a great call haha, should do a seat swap!
Please give us more of 2J1C...I love this. You earned a like
Thanks for the like - mission accomplished.
Never knew I needed more of the two Jasons together until watching this. Awesome video. 💪🏼
Amazing video Jasons! Can't wait to see more in the future!
Which brand and trim of the BRZ/GR86 would each of you prefer and why? Both of you create some of the best automotive content on TH-cam. Thank you!
Waiting for the next upload! 👍
A Masterclass and a Masterpiece! Thanks Jasons and Porsche!
Another fantastic 2J1C video. Thanks and Happy New Year!
never driven a porsche but i had a mitsubishi mirage (900kg) with a 6a12 2.0l v6 MIVEC engine from a mitsubishi FTO GPX one of the smallest v6 ever made, did have lightweight flywheel but it revved nearly as fast as this in mivec, above 5200rpm and revved to 9k (mitsubishi vtec) the rotating mass of the engine was so insanly light but had factory high compression and 4.7 final drive gearing from factory, such a cool engine, would love you to take a closer look!
I gave the like already. Hope you guys can make it a series
I love these 2J1C throttle house crossovers, I love both and seeing them together makes my day every time :)
We need more 2 Jason 1 Car videos! A pleasure to watch. Bravo!
Lovin the Car TH-camr Cinematic Universe expansions these days LOL.
Is that Camisa? Throwback to Motor Trend days.
It is indeed, we did a video together on Lucid and folks enjoyed it, so we're back at it tomorrow! th-cam.com/video/Via70c8rOOY/w-d-xo.html
@@EngineeringExplained Damn right we did 😎
If you haven’t watched his latest stuff, check out Hagerty and Issimi. Proper top notch content
Can't believe I missed the first video. Love all the work you two have done!
2J1C is such a great idea! You two are so different yet complementing each other like the throttle house
I'm so glad that you two have repeatedly brought back 2J1C. It's always great content.
DO I SMELL EE VERSUS TH BEEF???
A GT3 Touring is just as good, unless you really love unnecessary NVH. Imagine being stopped at a light and hearing your rattling flywheel and having to explain to people, "no, no, that's normal, it's got a lightweight....." And the person looks at you like you're insane, because you are. Maybe if you explained it in Jason's German accent it would seem normal. 😅
These two are an amazing combo. Hope to see more!
Love the collaboration between you guys. Really enjoyed it
fantastic car, I still like a Lotus more :)
Interesting opinion there
TH-cam premiers really hurt viewership btw
how though?
Well, TH-cam tells you to do them.
The opening bit 😂❤️. Knife gun got me. My favourite automotive TH-cam video now. Laughter and knowledge. 🙏🏻
What an amazing duo! Hope to see more of these collaborations soon
Best S/T review I've seen, so insightful about the engineering decisions, thank you!
Just wanted to point out and appreciate how good the simple stacked video edit is - with the front-facing and cabin facing cams just wonderfully blending into each other. Bravo
I hope this composition becomes more mainstream, it's really great
We need more of these videos! Cammisa’s humor with your technicality
The collab of the TH-cam car scene is just so awesome. I thought we'll be starve to death when MotorTrend dropped out, this is just so amazing!
I truly enjoyed this video, thank you 2Js 😉
Thank you for this collaboration!!!!!!!
Jason is my favorite. Great video, great car, great format.
Well done guys - really enjoyed it
Thanks for the vicarious experience. The engineering information is very helpful.
+1.. TOP SHELF.. Two Pedigree Automotive Journalist's with Technical Chops.. A Rare Combination, Very Rare.. Highly Entertaining.. Thanks for the Porsche GT Cars clout..
P.S., Gotta slip in a few Pulp Fiction lines. . . .
Great Collabs! Watching this video again.
Great video Jason! It's been a while since I've watched your videos with headphones on but I really noticed you taking advantage of. using stereo and having that lovely engine noise cominig in on the left side. Most of your videos that I've watched for the last while have been on my phone so that really kills a lot of the stereo effect, but this was wonderful. Great Job, and have a happy new year!
Nothing better than seeing Jason camisa, definitely a top car person. Love his work.
My 2 Favourite Jasons in 1 video; love it!
2 Jason videos are AWESOME! We need more.
I’ve literally been asking for multiple Jason’s for years so these videos lately have been wonderful
Throttle house + Jason's = The best super format
Jason is just so professional!
Fantastic car/review a side that was probably the best conversation between 2 car journalists (or whatever title the Jason's have today) of the year. Informative, entertaining, text corrections to mistakes or unknowns. Just great. 👏
Really appreciate it! I can't speak for Jason, but I do not consider myself a journalist (content creator, automotive media, car TH-camr all apply). Journalists generally have separation between themselves and the ad/sales portion of their businesses (MotorTrend, Car and Driver, etc). Since I'm a one man show, I do all the tasks, which blurs the ethical lines of journalism, hence why I say I'm not. But we all have our biases, I try and keep things as objective as possible - subjectivity is where you have to be careful, easiest to simply avoid!
Happy new year, Engineering Explained!
The best combo in modern car video stuff. Please do more like this.
I’ve never seen any of the reviews by these guys before but this review is next level - people who actually understand the engineering of the cars rather than trotting out quotes from the press pack like most you tubers do.
Boys, this was a great collaboration, loved it, thanks.
Really great show, fellas. REALLY great.
Love both of you together!
Awesome format with you two.
Best crossovers! My three favourite channels all in one video!
Great car. Great discussion. Great video. I concur with virtually every point Jason made. And yes, Jason is my favorite.
A "relatively" lightweight car, that's responsive, makes all the right glorious noises, and feels like an extension of your body. This is what Porsches used to be! Welcome back, old friend. But, since they're pretty much unobtainable, I'll have to stick with my '72.
GREAT, GREAT show. Nice team. Hope to see you guys together soon! We need more of this!
this is already one of my favourite car videos of all time!!!!
thx guys
I love this video just from the point of view of discussing the engineering and questioning why things are the way they are.
The best TH-cam crossover ever glad to see you guys
I’m seen this video just now after the holidays and I’m really thinking is a new years gift. Wow I really like seeing Jason’s videos. Amazing work, great cars! Happy new year everyone and welcome… 🤣
Awesome work, guys. I know the logistics can be challenging but I'm hoping for more 2J1C.
E/E you have had all our attention this year.... Lol. Thanks for the great year of videos and enjoy some time off
