    Bought the exact same model about 3 weeks ago from Tractor Supply. Mine came with hour meter. First thing I did was putting mulching kit on it and it performs fantastic, leaving some of the finest clippings I’ve ever seen and not spreading anything from a chute due to a plug in that comes with a kit.
    Agree with you on all points - I think Cub Cadet made a very well balanced garden tractor with everything I wanted to see in a tractor and nothing extra.

    Nice! I purchased that exact mower and it's coming in 2-3 weeks. I also bought a bagger for it, as I didn't have a bagger for my JD. My JD L111 I bought in 2005 for my FLAT 1 acre, is on its last legs. Fuel pump, a battery, steering gear assy., steering arm assy. on right side, 42" deck support arm cracked at weld to deck and was rewelded, were all the individual issues I had with the L110. I did all the repairs myself. I also pulled a 40" Brinley core aerator annually for last 9 years with it. Still not bad for almost twenty years on it. I also pulled many 400lb. loads of landscape rock when I first purchased it.
    The Tuff Torq40 transmission in my JD is similar to the Tuff Torq46 in the LT50. They will last if you follow a few rules. DON'T pull heavy loads(aerator/LS rock) in high heat or on hills. REMOVE deck when pulling loads with it. Keep trans cool by blowing debris from the trans case and cooling fins after EVERY use. I never washed the JD in 19 years, just blew her off with the leaf blower in the yard. The deck will be removed and cleaned and stored for backup use. She'll be relegated to pulling the aerator and dump trailer.
    FYI: I have read that some people are experiencing failed spindle bearings on Cub Cadets with the deck wash system. It is rumored to be caused by not allowing the blade spindle bearings to cool prior to using the wash system. I guess the heat of the spindle bearing will pull moisture into the bearing through the seal when hot.

    • @TheElectronMan
      @TheElectronMan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for letting me know about the spindle issue and I agree I always blow all the grass off after I am done mowing and think that helps a lot. I read about the new S type key for the blades on the XT Series, which apparently makes both the blades and spindles a little pricier. But upon further investigation, I found a kit including 3 star type spindles and three new blades for $120, so I'm not too concerned about losing a spindle now. When I compared options, deck quality, and price between brands, Cub Cadet seemed far superior to me.

      @@TheElectronManLike you, I purchased the yellow front bumper for my LT50, and the mower hasn't even arrived yet. And like you I also bent my front exhaust, and I also cracked the front hood of my JD L111. So, for only 46 Federal Rubber Notes I felt I needed it. Mind telling where you found the star spindles that fit the 50" Fab deck?

    Hello Mr. Man. My wife and I both kinda chuckled when you mentioned your old mower was a whopping 7 years old. Around here it's more like 17 years before one goes into the weedpatch. Couldn't help but notice your yellow ride this morning. Got one for myself about the same time you did. I just changed the 5 hour oil in it. You mentioned that your LT50 doesn't have an hour meter. Did you find it? Not much of one, but it's rat under steering column. Need close up glasses just to find it. Also, the next thing I did after mine arrived in a box was to order the yellow bumper. I like it a lot.
    My LT50 replaces my old hand-me-down Craftsman 16.5HP museum relic. No automatic nothing on it. Here's the deal...it actually had a smoother ride if you can believe that. My new CC finds every bump in the yard and transfers the bump energy straight up my spine. Uncanny! Else, while I can't say that I look forward to my acre....cutting is actually kinda fun again. I use my leaf blower on it after every session. And I shave a third the time off my old 42" Sears machine too. So good to see you. Lastly, a suggestion. You can cut a good bit of yard cutting time completely out if you'll install somewhere in the neighborhood of a 60x50' garden right in the middle of your back 40. Works for me! See ya!

    • @TheElectronMan
      @TheElectronMan  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, you’re right about the 7 years. I have one that’s about 20 years old now; that one is in the weed patch. However, the Craftsman Pro is still going. In fact, I’m getting ready to do a service on it: oil change, spark plugs, new air filter, etc.
      I’m thinking about selling it, actually. I’m building quite a lawnmower fleet over here, LOL. The Pro has a 42" deck, and this new CC with a 50" deck makes a big difference with all the maintenance around here. I like keeping them fresh because after a couple of weeks without mowing, the grass gets out of control.
      Interestingly, it seems it’s a mixed bag on the hour meters-some have them, some don’t. Not sure why. I did some checking, and mine is all wired for it, just doesn’t have the meter. They are about $75.00, and I’m tempted to put one in.
      I’ve had several gardens over the years, and you’re right-it’s a more efficient use of the land. It’s too late this year, but maybe next year, I’ll take on another garden. I’m surprised you say it’s bumpier; mine seems smoother. I wonder if your tire pressure is too high-that can make a difference.
      Anyway, thanks for the comments and happy mowing!

      @@TheElectronMan Back atcha Mr. Man. Just got back from the yard. After exchanging my wagon wheels for pewmatic tires, it do seem to make a difference. The back tires take 10;b of air and both were at nearly 30. Front tires weren't much better. After I set the pressure right I went to some of my frowziest yard for the test and sure enough it did seem to take some of the sharp out of the jounce. So....ya done good!!! I sure missed that one. The first garden tractor we had was a Craftsman GT6000 with the Onan 18HP Twin cylinder horizontal shaft engine, 3 speed spicer transaxle with 2 ranges, and 44" mower deck....that thing mowed our 2 acre property for 21 years before the internal engine components decided to part ways with each other :(.
    It was replaced with a Craftsman YT4000 lawn tractor...it had the Briggs & Stratton 24HP Twin engine, and 42" mower deck....biggest pile of junk managed to get 7 years out of it before the engine threw a rod.
    The Cub Cadet XT1 42" with the Kohler 18HP single cylinder engine replaced the YT4000...good lawn tractor, my uncle has it now though, but it seemed to have better power than that YT4000's supposed 24HP engine...I ran the Cub Cadet 44" 3 stage snow blower a few times and it had plenty of power to run it, I had the rear weight bracket and tire chains for it. I had the mulching kit installed on my XT1, it mulched leaves extremely well, I had the Gator G5 mulching blades (not the Cub Cadet blades), plus the mulch plug and it did great, mulched the grass most of the year, except the first few cuttings in the spring when the grass was thick and heavy. It's cut quality was great, and if my uncle didn't need a mower I'd still have it LOL.
    If I replace my XT1, I may get a zero turn as I have a sub-compact tractor so I just need something to mow with so I don't have to install the 60" mid mount deck on my tractor all the time LOL.
    A fabricated deck is a good way to go....better built, easy to repair, and lasts a lot longer than those paper thin stamped decks. The fabricated decks are heavier too.

    • @TheElectronMan
      @TheElectronMan  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You sound like me. I started years ago with Craftsman and have had at least five over the last 30 years. I had a real dog, the L2000, I think they called it. It had a Kohler 42" 18HP single-cylinder engine that developed a rod knock after five years. I also had a 20HP Briggs model that lasted about seven years but went through two decks and multiple spindles.
      Then I bought a Craftsman Pro series, which is still going strong, though I found out it was just a rebranded Cub Cadet. In fact, the steering wheel has a Cub symbol on it. The only issues it has had are with the spindles and deck, but it's one of the best mowers I've ever had. That’s why I went full-blown Cub Cadet this time. The fabricated deck was the selling point, as I have an Ariens 52" Zero Turn with a fab deck that has been through rough stuff without any deck problems. Its only issue is that it eats blade belts.
      I like having both. I can tell you the Zero Turns are great for flat areas, but they ride rough and are terrible on uneven terrain. I usually use the Zero Turn for my back area, which is smoother and flat, and the rider for all around the house and the uneven area in front.
      When you have acreage, you need dependable mowers. A broken-down mower around here for a couple of weeks means the grass gets out of control.

Tsc sent a replacement and the replacement was the excact same mower but it did have the hour meter. I had read in reviews before buying some had and some didn’t. Good to see Kohler engines are back, the pandemic caused a back order on their engines. Kawasaki engines were available, and they are on a lot of 2023 mowers. Nothing wrong with Kawasaki except a little more costly on filters and service items in general.
    The Briggs 25hp engine is a good one IF you blow the grass off the heads and cooling fins after each mow. If not it will slip an exhaust valve guide on the left head at some point in life. I've seen the pushrod fall into the timing gears many times.
    I have never been a fan of the deck wash system, and blow decks off with a long reach blow gun. Under deck as well.
    Congrats on your new mower! We have a '99 Cadet 2140 AGS, it's still in great shape with 1200 hours. It's retired now, cut great just too slow.

Rather work on a MTD product anyday as everything will need service sometime, dont need a mechanics advice on what they like or how much they can make on a repair. Not my problem.

      Wow I guess they all have lemons the couple Cub's that I have owned have been real work horses with minimum issues, wished I could say that about my 5K Ariens Zero Turn...
