I had faith i would find the Impreza if i scrolled long enough. 3:10 😁 the old import wiper curse,im still living it to this day. My forever car is my MY97sti type r in yellow 😅
Great little review there. I prefer the styling on the wrx, but both are lovely cars. I think in years to come, the 'purple patch' of Japanese cars will really be remembered fondly with these kinds of cars. There's so much character here... Off to the classifieds...
I had a Classic and 2 blobeyes. Fantastic cars, so full of character, my ears still prick up the off beat thrum of a flat 4. A 330 bhp WRX makes a really quick, useable road car. The Classic has it's own charm. Great clip 👍
The great thing is, with the few imperfections that they have (me talking about my classic really), you can easily correct them with a few relatively simple changes. Anti Roll bars, bushes etc etc. Nice little comparison, enjoyed the video!
Can be an issue with many Japanese sporty cars from back then. They tend to be measured more for Japanese folk's build. Now I'm about 1.5 Mick Jaggers in body shape so have no trouble, but if you're more normal/well built they can prove uncomfortable.
Great video enjoyed watching it and its companion video from Jay Emm, keep up the great work. Really appreciate your focus on car reviews with your perspective without the loud BS and so forth of some other content.
Great review :-) I bought the white WRX from Jack while I was waiting for my Exige to be delivered. I now have my Exige so if anyone would like to buy the white WRX please let me know by commenting below and I will get in touch.
Nice to see the videos done like this been subscribed to jayemm for a while nice to see the two different unbiased opinions I have now subscribed and will be having a look through your content tonight
Having owned both of these models I can honestly say my 2000 GC8 was a far quicker car than my 2001 GDA. As for handling and braking and overall enjoyment my Bugeye wins hands down. In the process of building a motor which should give me between 430 - 460 @WHP.
XXVII, as I've commented to Cletus, you guys should each review a car, watch each other's videos, and then do a video where you discuss your findings/opinions. I suggest this because all the guff about " real drivers " and " driver's car " is purely subjective and no two people have the same opinions. It should make interesting and entertaining viewing.
The bugeye is a far better driver, i always thought the classic was good car i had 6 classics type r.ra.etc but i now have a S202 and the difference is chalk and cheese,
I could ve sworn it was a white mitsubishi evo from that era you bought a few month ago... is my memory that bad or do you actually own an impreza+evo from the mid/end 90s? Have to go check your old vids lol. Anyway... your impreza over the bugeyes all the way!
Why I favour naturally aspirated. Sure, you fancy turbo boyos have plenty of grunt, but my power delivery doesn't have lag. 😂 Actually this vid reminded me of one of the best road "duels" I ever had many moons ago. It was me in my DC2 Type R and another driver in a classic Rexie in that lovely Scooby blue. Went on for about ten miles up sweeping Irish B roads, me following them. Nothing too crazy, but crazy enough that the local constabulary may have taken umbrage... _Very_ smooth driver of the Scooby and they had me digging deep at times. Anyway, we both came to a stop in a town at traffic lights in different lanes. I look over to acknowledge the driver and there she was, a middle aged Muslim lady. Wearing a headscarf of very nearly the same colour blue as her car. The gobsmacked look on my face reduced her to giggling, she gave me a thumbs up and off she went up another road. And sparing the horses she was not. You just never can tell who's a petrolhead :)
The 90’s classic “mean eye” Subaru Imprezas are my absolute favorite aesthetically

bugeye for life! I love my project bugeye :)
Cutest car ever
The classic shape all day long for me Jack

Yep, best value performance cars out there!
You called it. Prices are shooting up now that they’re reaching 25-30 years old and are considered classics
I have a 95 Sti-RA Version; absolutely awesome; light; quick; great sound - an absolute 'classic'
Always liked the original impreza turbo...!!! 👌
The looks, the sound, the drive, the performance...!!! 😁

Thanks Buddy, glad you liked it. Awesome cars
Lovely burble from those flat four engines. :)
If you can “feel the front end getting to the edge” then you either don’t know what you are talking about or the bugeye has some problems
Both are my favorite Impreza generations Classic and Bugeye !
The great thing is, with the few imperfections that they have (me talking about my classic really), you can easily correct them with a few relatively simple changes.
Anti Roll bars, bushes etc etc.
Nice little comparison, enjoyed the video!
Great review mate! I have just purchased a bug eye and intend to restore it, such a great car for a project!
I love the bug eyes honestly
Also my mum's cousin had an early grey import STI back in the day which was ridiculous. True wolf in sheep's clothing. Looked like a minicab!
Best classic is 22b but 100k no thanks 😂 2nd best is the type r around 10-12 mark 3rd best is p1
Johny Jackson so what about the p1
Stephen Maley 3rd place 👌
Looks like I'm first here today Jack!
Love the sound of scooby's ........ you and James have now got me scooby shopping on auto trader 🤗
My mate Paul has this very one for sale.. he did not get on with the seats!

Would be nice to see you both discussing the two.
At 06:09.. part of me hoped for a surprise thrash through that mud pit 😄 love your reviews bud
Love the bugeye 2nd favourite Scooby but the classic is the one! Bought a 2000 Turbo wagon a year ago and haven’t looked back! Great video chaps! 😀
Thank you sir, enjoy your cars!
Great video enjoyed watching it and its companion video from Jay Emm, keep up the great work. Really appreciate your focus on car reviews with your perspective without the loud BS and so forth of some other content.
Thank you very much for the very kind feedback MrCarrera!
Great review :-) I bought the white WRX from Jack while I was waiting for my Exige to be delivered. I now have my Exige so if anyone would like to buy the white WRX please let me know by commenting below and I will get in touch.
Nice comparison test, I am now of to browse the classified ads... Tks!
I like both of them
That sounds superb, never driven one tbh.
Nice to see the videos done like this been subscribed to jayemm for a while nice to see the two different unbiased opinions
I have now subscribed and will be having a look through your content tonight
Gab, glad to have you on board. Hope you enjoy the vids!!
Both are classic !
Awesome Content man
I own an 05 impreza jdm wrx swapped
Now I'm hitting that subscribe button
To bad it couldn't be stock vs stock to get a good and honest comparison. I'm suspecting the bugeye would be less impressive then, performance wise.
Yep. stock vs stock would be nice but viscerally impossible.. and also vitally impossible for anyone to actually buy!

Nice.. love both these cars though! Thanks for watching!
Love a bit of Subaru action. My mum had a Legacy in the NZ that did about 300,000K. Pretty thirsty cars I imagine.
Yep, she seems to like a drink!!
Nice video Jack, got to buy a car for my daughter looking at Hyundai i10s is a bit of a comedown after this😢
Ummmm... maybe get her something more exciting but still sensible. UP Gti?
Gorgeous 😍 cars

Definitely totally subjective.. me and James rarely seem to agree on much!
I was rather looking forward to your open and frank discussions on various subjects‼️🤕🤕🤕
not a bad incite into the impreza......nice 1
That was a very quiet Jayemm
Hi, any interest in selling the numberplate off the GC8? Very interested
The bugeye is a far better driver, i always thought the classic was good car i had 6 classics type r.ra.etc but i now have a S202 and the difference is chalk and cheese,
Interesting review thanks
276hp on that year wrx same as the sti but has a smaller turbo (td04)
yeah a mechanic told me '97 v4 wrx's actually have sti specs, so you can confirm this?
Blob eye master race :P
Nah
can you make a review between bugeye and hawkeye wrx ?
Meep
WOOOHOOO needed this
I could ve sworn it was a white mitsubishi evo from that era you bought a few month ago... is my memory that bad or do you actually own an impreza+evo from the mid/end 90s? Have to go check your old vids lol. Anyway... your impreza over the bugeyes all the way!
Nope... my memory sucks lol
yes!! Did consider and EVO but there is so much more value with these. And I think they are cooler.
Beaten by MrGrantch by 2 minutes 😂
Too slow Sir, too slow. :D
MrGrentch ha ha I'll try harder next time 😂😉👍
Ha!!!

Who else feels that he has said absolutely nothing distinctive between the two cars?
That should read, " James and I ".
Hi, Sir! Please come back aboard.
Hey, Spanners, how are you⁉️ I'll pop on over to the Egyptian Flier.
I'm hale and hearty, thank you for asking, Sir. And your good self? We all miss you.
Good video but theres no T in impreza 😂
yours should be runnin 276 hp from standard being a 97 model
Try the sti pink babe lol
Neither of those cars are STI's just base model WRX's with a terrible 5 speed gearbox, i doubt either are pushing more than 240bhp as a wrx..
So I guess there's...not much in it. Personal preference I guess.
I prefer classic
Impretza or impretzel?
🤣
Impretza...
True!!!
Love the engines. But not the styling... Only the Hawkeye and legacys, Foresters :)
A Forester is quite a cool wagon for sure...!
impretsa
How can you review two cars against each other when there not stock cars. Totally pointless .
You make a good point but there just aren’t many of these cars about that are totally stock
